China is friendly with NK but they do not like NK when they do stupid things like this WITHOUT giving them any info. A few years back, the Chinese government went mad cause NK tested nuclear weps without telling them and it took quite a long time to rebuild their relationship.

While most of their gear is supplied by the US, they have (at least on a per soldier basis) the most combat experience due to constant clashes in the middle east. Correct me if I'm mistaken.

They think that this was caused because of the military training going on in the island, and they retaliated towards that. They are waiting for a release from north korea

Oh God dammit Al Jazeera is moving away from NK/SK news. :\

That twitter is obviously attention whoring expecting some sort of profiteering to be posted there once they hit a high number of followers.

This seems to happen every few years, wasn't there just something about a submarine or a naval something or another? And then a few years before that there were nuclear tests, basically the Korean War has been about to resume for at least 10 years.

just look at the twitter account you are citing, his website is a tumblr account and most of the news posted on his twitter account prior to all this is garbage or gossip

God I hope no one important follows that twitter (livenewswire)... and what if someone at BBC starts retweeting it if they don't have Korean speakers watching MBC constantly like Team Liquid does? BBC is already retweeting other random people... I wonder if it is secretly run by a government or is run by some internet prankster trying to cause a war? Surely some people are going to retweet those tweets and cause a problem somewhere.

God Bless America? :\ Yes, because it's military forces are not already spread out, and because war is so popular there. Really, everyone actually loses. My condolences to the people afraid for their lives in Korea right now. Nah actually if the war starts China will have to divert a lot resources towards defend from possible invasion from US. So China will surely wont be as much of economical superpower as it is now. US wins.
On the other hand mobilizing troops and carrying out military operations cost money. The US economy is already a mess from having to fight two wars. A third was would probably throw us into another Great Depression... Not that we would even have the manpower available to allocate into such an effort. Our forces are spread far too thin.

I guess the whole scenario is a weeeee-bit weird.
One question tho: What brings you to the conclusion that gas price wont rise over $20 a gallon? Some restrictions by Russia OR U.A.E. can quickly lead to a dramatic downfall in supplies of gas, leading to an explosion of prices, so this doesnt seem impossible to me. (Especially having in the back of your head that the countries with the biggest populations on earth (India and China) get more and more Cars / Citizen, with a not really saturated market waiting)

Hmm..the idea of WW3 is not so weird anymore. think about it: What if China will help North Korea, both being communist states, and US will help SK? a war between communism and capitalism again?

50,000 US troops in SK are not special force. They are regular army/marines stationed there. CNugent is right. US presence on the border is just a symbol.

The last thing I'd rely on is a twitter feed. Twitter news articles should be taken with a pinch of salt.

Except a war will never happen with the current potential of nuclear weapons.

china does not want to help NK start a war china hopes to maintain status quo, which means peace, and they will stay out of conflict if it occurs

The UK is probably their only real competitor. yeah please turn this thread into "which country's soldier is the best" My point was to emphasize the idea that 50,000 troops isn't meaningless. But you can go ahead and do that, if you want. It's not meaningless but strength in US army is more from logistics than individual soldiers. Air dominance, inteligence control are the most important. Many countries have well trained soldiers. In Arghanistan/Iraq US had dominance in everything. NK is different. US army would roll over NK but 50k soldiers with their limited equipment + SK wouldn't have near the advantage that US had in Middle East.
Still, I don't think there will be a war...it's very unlikely. SK doesn't want a war and NK is kinda nuts but I don't think they would step over the line of no return.
