NK cannot win a war, and they must know this, they may be part of tyrranical reigime but they are not stupid. Then again given recent events I am inclined to think otherwise (sinking a freaking BOAT???) My money is on some kind of interal dispute, perhaps the leadership is splintering or something along these lines. But hey I'm just a poster on an internet forum and don't expect my opinion to be given any weight at all. Regardless of the cause this is still a very very bad situation. There's a few reasons why NK would do this. They need to reassure their citizens that they do have some relevance in the world (via propaganda), they might be changing from Kim Jong Il to his son, they might be doing this solely because they don't like their southern brethren and they've gotten away with this for years, etc.

I hope this does ends asap, this is very bad for the korean people. Good luck getting any motive from the western media. Despite the accepted truth by all international relations experts that all governments are inherently rational on the international stage, it does not help make your case that the other side is evil and you are the "defender of justice" to the people of a democracy.

This is my understanding of the cause of the attack, so don't quote me ye but a look on the map would show you that the island where the SK were holding their Naval drill was like directly in front of the NK border. So it's quite likely that they thought it could be an invasion. and even if they didnt it was clearly a provocation by SK holding this drill so close to the border.

Any word on when that will be released? The backstory of that game is so ridiculous it's virtually impossible to happen. 2011: North Korea's weapons program grows significantly, leading to sanctions by the UN 2012: Kim Jong-il dies. He is succeeded by his son Kim Jong-un 2013: Kim Jong-un reunites North Korea and South Korea 2015: Gas prices rise to $20 a gallon in the United States, destabilizing the country 2017: The US Dollar collapses and the US Military begins to downgrade its foreign presence 2018: Japan surrenders to the Greater Korean Republic, forming an 'alliance' (i.e. being capitalized into a vassal state of sorts) 2022: The United States' economic system collapses totally 2024: Koreans annex many nations in East Asia 2025: GKR attacks the US 2025: An EMP hidden in a communications satellite is used to completely disable US infrastructure 2025: GKR forces seize Hawaii 2025: Cyber attack takes down hardened sites 2025: Korean troops control San Francisco 2026: US military is scattered Events happening in 2013 and 2015 is impossible to happen, and where is China, Russia, EU? Did they just dissapear?

Usually these actions by NK are due to internal political maneuvering. It's sad but they know exactly how much they can do without actually provoking war, and because the government controls all media sources they can show pictures and pretend it was some major victory in order to make someone (probably the new heir apparent) look good. It's just shitty that people die for bullshit politics.

Except that the US and SK already have made detailed plans on countermeasures and assault strikes to take in case of a NK invasion or escalation of war? That the United States are the ones that have done joint military amphibious landing simulations to prepare for such an issue? You're crazy if you think the US doesn't give a shit about NK or wouldn't do something if NK attacked. NK might be outdated in tech but they still have nukes and even basic artillery shelling was estimated to be able to cause of 7 million casualties to Seoul alone.

No it's not a provocation...they do this drill every year. NK is aware of this.
