NK is totally fucked, they almost have nothing to eat and they have nothing to lose. Basically it all comes up to their leader Kim Chong Il, his descendant and commanders go crazy and decide to make huge mess in desperate try to gain. He and his commanders could be escaping and leading war from "safe place" (i guess hidden somewhere in China). People would not be told this of course and war propaganda would be very strong over there. Kim Chong Il already has a lot of hidden money and secret tunels and ways ready for his escape. I hope it will not come to this, but considering all the non-sense that goes on in NK, everything could happen - unfortunately.

My hope is that no further conflict will come from this incident, and that in a few days, SK will express their just anger at the North, but will likely leave it at that. After that, I hope China will finally get fed up with cleaning up NK's messes and will finally give them an ultimatum to stop this dangerous aggression. I think that's the best case scenario; no further conflict, but serious consequences for NK from the international community, especially China.

I'm simply noting that this is a significant change away from the way they typically stage provocations against South Korea, and that's a disturbing development. No need to be a smartass. If you simply misinterpreted my remarks, then I apologize for not making it clearer.

Is this true? It seems to me that such behavior can only be self-destructive, as it brings international reprisals and a generally negative image. Totally true. They don't even have enough oil to get their stupid aiplanes' engines work. Just like Boxer spends all his mineral producing marines, NK spends all its money producing nukes.

They have about 700000 active soldiers. SK has the 3rd largest army in the world when you count the reserves. I think it's slightly less than 50,000 yet that is a VERY high amount of troops for US when we are talking PROTECTION and not being actually aggressive. I never meant to imply that SK was reliant completely on the US, but they would expect heavy, heavy US backing if any actual war were to occur.

I'm listening to an MBC stream as we speak The whole country would freak out if this happened. IE some people will start booking flights out of SK to avoid war.

However, they would not leave much of South Korea if any behind them, even without using nuclear bombs, there is surely enough artillery/bombs/missiles/etc to take out most of South Korea with them, when you mix in their nuclear capacity(even at a small level nuclear power is devastating, see WW2 for examples). I don't think this is a simple problem, where you can just be like, cut it out or I'm gonna declare war on you. Certainly, if the N. Koreans were capable of a Nazi-style blitzkreig. However, I doubt N. Korean forces have the mobility of the early Nazi forces. And then when you take into account the superpowers that lie in direct proximity to the region (China, Japan, Russia), you come to realize that within days, if not hours, the N. Koreans would find themselves in the very uncomfortable position of fighting a multi-front defense with every other major superpower following quickly behind.

I hope this does ends asap, this is very bad for the korean people. Its funny that in 34 pages pretty much noone talked about cause of attack and noone really gives a shit. Everyone is just happy for getting a chance to poke NK with a stick and say "Bad NK!".
