My laptop's headphone out is pretty hissy, so higher impedance and lower sensitivity would be better. Or I guess I could use an inline impedance adapter, though I realize those things can have a disastrous impact on FR for loads with highly varying impedance over frequency curves. So either something less prone to hissing, or maybe something that works decently with an impedance adapter. For budget, I'd like no more than $50, with closer to $30 preferred. Again, these aren't for primary listening but for use as a secondary pair. I prefer sets with flatter FR and a more neutral sound, though that's not deal-breaking for me. For the price, I'm not expecting miracles for sound quality. Last IEMs I ever listened to were some Meelec M9s a while back, which I found a little bass-bloaty for my tastes but otherwise okay. Any suggestions? http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/478568/multi-iem-review-158-iems-compared-westone-4-radius-twf21-added-03-27 This does a better job than I can. It's broken down by price ranges too.

I should have mentioned that I already looked there and was looking for a second opinion. ![]() My impression from there was Brainwavz M1, Meelectronics M21, or ECCI PR200 maybe.

Well I haven't heard any of them, but from what I am reading on that thread, Brainwavz M1 or Cyclone PR1 Pro would be my choices, with a slight edge to Brainwavz M1. To be honest though if I was already going to spent 40-60 bucks, I'd spring 30-40 more and just get the RE0's.

Self mod? If it is then it's really nicely done. I am thinking about modding my hd-25s to add a replaceable 3.5mm cable.

Read some reviews on headfi.org and they seem to like the soundstage on these cans. These things require some burn-in and after that the bass became more punchy and clearer. Also purchased a Fiio e5 and these cans sound so awesome at this pricepoint. Highly recommended if your looking for some cheap cans. Downside is, 20ft of wire! @_@ can strongly recommend the sony's, amazing quality for their price the response curve is relatively flat, and they are rather comfy even after hours of use

Mostly for indoor use so weight/size isn't that much of a problem but comfortable would be a big plus since i'd need to wear it for a long time to do literature reviews for school. Thanks since when was the HD595 $100? the 555 is in that range though You can also take a look at the ATH-M50 that everyone loves

The Beats by Dr Dre (made by Monster) - is it the same deal as usual with Monster? Overpriced garbage? It's amazing how popular they are around here so I was wondering if they were actually any good. I'm actually in the market for a pair of headphones (one for the office and one for home) so I'm open to suggestions since I don't want to go too crazy with the price since I have to buy 2.

Yeah, I've never seen anyone impressed with the beats (as in someone who is already into headphones). Monster makes good IEMs however. Their Turbine series is very well regarded.

My only basic requirement is that there can't be much sound leakage since I will be getting one for work and then one for a very quiet household. I've had success with the Sennheiser brand in the past, but some of their open models seem to have significant sound leakage.
