Hey guys,
Just wondering about the difference between the Shure SRH840s and the Audio-Technica M50s.
I will be using them for SC2 minimally and mostly for listening to TSFH, Orchestral, Country, small amounts of pop, and almost no hip-hop or rock. Also will be used on long haul flights.
Recommendations?
I wouldn't say I'm new but above average with these things.
EDIT: Right now I have the Fostex T20 RP mkII

I dont know about the shure's, but i think the audio-technica have better highs/lows compared to their mids which is where i think your main concern is.

It's hard to give recommendations in a vacuum.

If you just want a cool headset, then just go for the one that looks comfy to you.
If you want good sound, get decent headphones and a $10 Clip-on Zalman mic. Simple as that

I think the poll in the OP is probably very biased, since people who have mid-to-highend headphones are much more likely to click on a thread called "Headphone enthusiast thread!".
I'm using a pair of Sennheiser HD428's. Excellent sound-quality, nice and comfortable design, and affordable ($169NZD). Well pleased.

This is just plan to use when playing games that I communicate with people on. I plan to buy actual headphones later like some AKG's or audiotechnica's.

I have a Creative Fatal1ty USB Headset for my computer, and gaming.
I have some iTech (I think this is the name), headphones for my Ipod. SOme silver, fold-up, battery powered noise cancellation, bullshit.

I love those headphones too :>
I just bought a pair of JVC Air Cushions since I was lacking an IEM and these are sure a change from my Yuin PK2s + Show Spoiler + They are extremely fun to listen to
Crappy highs (I like it sharp probably from my MDR 7506) with nice bass impact Mids are lacking but they aren't too bad
A little EQ solves the highs problem~
The thing I like the most about these is that the snare drums are really really snappy Makes listening to music really fun
For less than $20, these are a great deal
Sure the sound isn't really clean and things are muddied, but they are really fun to listen to
Not to mention they are really comfortable :3

Fatal1ty headsets sounded really bad after you listen to better headphones. oO
With outdoor headphones, I prefer sound isolation more than sound quality, because you don't really have the time or the peace or the freedom to listen.

I need some help guys, and this is the perfect thread.
I need a new pair of in ear headphones with a mic!!! The only ones I can find are the Razer ones and I really don't want those. Anybody have suggestions?

Something a bit cheaper? I don't need these to last forever, just a couple months. So I don't want to spend 70+ on this, something like 20-30 or 40 would be good.

In ear, but thanks for the effort.

Hi, I've been using a pair of Sony EX earbuds for maybe the last 7 months or so, and one side no longer works, so I'm looking for a replacement, and maybe something a little nicer.
I don't really want to splurge, so nothing too expensive please.
I'm mostly going to be using these on the bus, on breaks at school, when I'm on a plane, long car rides, etc., so I'd prefer something with decent noise-cancelling.
I also care about sound quality and definition, because I like to be able to hear everything in my music haha.
If it makes any difference, I listen to a lot of Progressive Metal (Which all sounds a lot different), Post Rock, Hard Rock, other kinds of Rock, and some electronic music.
Thanks. :p
Edit: Looking for something in-ear

I've got some Grado SR-80's and love them to death. And at $120 CAD they're a pretty damned good price for the quality.
The only problem I've had from them is that some people don't like the fact that they bleed so much sound. I've noticed a lot of hate centered at open design headphones online, but I love them. I can use them as portable speakers, because they get damned loud at max volume (even on small MP3 players), and trust me, after putting them on and turning them up, you realize you don't need noise cancellation, you just need to turn them up
But in all seriousness, I have found noise cancellation a hard sell since I know what it can do the the quality of the music. I think I would prefer something that blocked the sound, rather than active cancellation.

Oh, my bad, don't mean active cancellation, just isolating. My other ones were silicone in-ear, and they did a good job of blocking everything else out. I'll definitely take a look into those though, thanks. Anyone else have ideas? :p

^ Are you into IEM's? Check out Etymotic Research's line. They're literally the best company out there for isolation.
