I was originally considering the Ultimate Ears Triple.Fi 10 but I'm worried about the fit issues that many have reported on Head-Fi.org. At this point I'm considering just shelling out the extra money and getting the Westone UM3X or Sennheiser IE8. Just curious on what TLers have to say on this, any suggestions on other options? I have heard many good things about the RE0, how does it compare in sound quality to the top tier IEMs? Because if the top tier ones aren't much of an upgrade, I might just get the RE0 and save the extra money instead. The triple fi.10 is indeed not worth considering. Still have my RE0, they are amazing at reproducing a natural sound. Nothing is forced and it doesn't stress the ear. It's something special. Otherwise, the guy who popularized the RE0 has a review on a $150 IEM right here: http://www.inearmatters.net/2011/01/review-vsonic-gr07-labor-of-love.html

+ Show Spoiler + The homepage over-hypes the headphones quite a bit(with all the quality and well, things that don't really matter about headphone) but the sound quality and the comfortness.Mmmmm...There seems to be something wrong with mine(gonna go to guarantee repairs some day) but still the sound quality and mic are superb ![]()

The Headroom Total Bithead seems like a good entry level choice, but I figure I'll ask around: any other good amps around that price-range (sub $200)? I was under the impression m-50's don't really need/benefit a lot an amp? If you've got the cash go for the recommendations above i suppose.

I'm with him on this one. If you have good, easy to drive headphones, its a more cost-effective improvement to upgrade your source (in this case a soundcard, or a good DAC with an Amp)

Also what is the difference between Sennheiser's HD555/HD558, HD595/HD598, etc. The xx8 models are claimed to be newer but look substantially more expensive on Amazon. What exactly was changed?

I have heard a lot of great reviews for the ATH-M50S and that's what I'm considering atm, but I'm wondering if its worth it to shell out the extra money to get AKG K701, or HD595, etc. Also what is the difference between Sennheiser's HD555/HD558, HD595/HD598, etc. The xx8 models are claimed to be newer but look substantially more expensive on Amazon. What exactly was changed? Unless you have a VERY GOOD amp, cross the K701's off your list. Listening to Classical, you'd be better off with open headphones like the ATH-AD700's unless you don't like sound leaking in.

The triple.fi's have bass, which is the RE0's weak point. The RE0's also break really easily. I got my triple.fi10's for 95 dollars though.

I've been trading my Around Ear Triport Bose headphones for warranty replacement every time they broke (about 4 times over the past 4 years) and I was getting fed up and looked into another set (thus the m50's question). This time around, they've sent me a pair of Bose AE2's, which are the sequel to the AE1's (no shit right?). Anyone have any opinion of them? They seem pretty decent, very comfortable, but not sure in terms of relative performance.

Yep, that's what I've heard, something like 40 hours to break in and then the sound gets even richer. ![]() Review (copied and pasted my review from somewhere else) Loving these. The sound isolation is pretty incredible. I had my laptop blast a song right next to me, and basically I couldn't hear it until my laptop was at over half volume. Once the song hit the stronger portions, I couldn't hear my laptop until it was around 75% volume. Sound quality is of course phenomenal. I hear practically everything in my music right now, which basically means Two Steps From Hell is a sheer orchestral heaven. Definitely need to find more music that is epic. The headphones are immensely comfortable, I feel no headphone clamp (which many lower or inferior brands have), and I believe I could easily wear these for an entire day without getting a headache or ear pains (unrelated to volume of course). Sound staging is pretty good - I've heard that the best sound stage is the one that sets it right in front of you. The ATH-M50s don't appear to pull that off, but it keeps everything in a very closed set and I really enjoy that. I personally love it when my music seems to just surround me, so this seems like a perfect fit for me. The aesthetics and design seems very good to me. I enjoy the logo (I also like the Sennheiser logo), and also the text font and color (keyboard person here). The multiple action joints is immensely useful and assist in providing that awesome comfortable listening feel. The 1/4" adapter over the 1/8" plug is pretty awesome as an extra. I personally may not use the 1/4" adapter in the near future, but who knows! Cable length is at a glance 10'. Definitely will be useful when I listen to music on my comp from my bed, or if I watch anything on my comp. I got these for $110, thanks to a special pre-order sale. It normally goes for around $150-160, shipping not considered. Absolutely would recommend these to anyone thinking to become an audiophile! I have just started getting into the world of good sound, so this is just an amateur listening.

I'm quite pleased with my headphones atm so now I need some good way of monitoring low frequencies especially to be able to mix and master properly. I don't really have a ton of money to spend unfortunately so I'm looking for something in the ~$250 per speaker range. So does anyone know of any good monitors for EDM with a pretty flat curve and tight/low bass reproduction? Should I wait until I can afford to spend some more?

![]() And I use these when I'm gaming or for extremely long listening sessions as they're extremely comfortable even if I wear them for like 10 hours at a time lol. DENON AH-D2000 ![]() And finally I power them through a custom made usb-dac into a Little Dot MKIII Headphone Amp ![]()
