Anybody using them? Pros and cons? Crappy sound but is very comfortable for its price but of course sound quality is subjective.
I'm feeling like its quality is the best for that amount of money. What did you use them for? I'm usually listening to some non-electronic music, which sounds pretty good, but when it comes to Techno (etc.) it's not that good at all.

hey guys, ive been searching around for a great over-ear headphone for music, but the only interesting one that ive found is the Audio technica ATH-M50. Later ive found out that theyre monitoring headphones, so i guess its not really too good for listening to music. does anybody has any good suggestions thats comparable with the ATH-M50?
Link for ATH-M50

Link for ATH-M50 I own the ATH-M50. They're fine for listening to music. Pretty neutral but just a bit bass light. They perform about what you'd expect for the price. Sorry, I don't have other recommendations in that price bracket.

if you look through the topic, the Sennheiser HD 5XX series is very much recommended. I myself use the HD 598 and they're open which I definitely prefer to the ATH's, but also have a bit of a light bass. Great cans.

M50s are fantastic at their price point. The only other headphones I'd recommend are going to be more expensive.

Does anyone have any experience with the T1? I've read quite a few reviews on them but have never had the pleasure of auditioning them firsthand. I get the feeling Beyer is trying to get rid of their stock - there have been a few deals on them in recent weeks.

I own the T1s. They're great all-around headphones if you want something that you can drive without buying a 1k amp and something that will play every genre of music well. They've been out several years now like the HD800s, but the HD800s scale beautifully with better amps, while the T1s don't, so the T1s have slowly been pushed down as newer and better high end headphones enter the market and competing specialized sounding headphones get cheaper.
The T1s are the entry into Hi-Fi, it's just that now they're competing with the Beyer T90s and the HiFiMANs without offering enough distinction to justify an extra 200-300 to do everything well. They just can't compete with the nearest lines in LCD and HD800, so the price is dropping to be enticing. It's been hovering around 750-850 for the last couple years. I'm going kinda away from the T1 all-purpose path and looking to specialize, sell my T1 and buy a HD800 for reference and then a specialized bass headphone (Alpha Dogs or K812 looking atm) for the majority of my not-high-quality tracks, plus a nicer amplifier.

what amp? I'm looking into the Oppa HA-1 / Hifiman HE560. Still waiting for more reviews on both of these products

Currently looking at the Schiit Mjolnir and the Vioelectric V200 or V110 or one of the WooAudio ones.
I have to make a commitment to a headphone first 8D

Hey guys, roughly 3 years ago i bought some allesandro ms-1 (after getting a recommendation here) and i really liked them. Sadly the cable broke in a rather annoying place where its not easy to fix myself and the local music stores wont fix them either. Sending them in also isnt an option because i ordererd them from the US (no retailers in germany as far as i know).
So now i need a new pair of Headphones and would like to get some recommendations again. (I wont buy the Alessandros again because dealing with customs is a pain and getting them fixed as i said above aswell) I mainly listen to Rock, Metal and some Blues (Led Zeppelin, Guns n Roses, Black Sabbath, In Flames, Muse, Pearl Jam are some of my favourite bands). I also use them to play Games (but thats low priority, I care about the sound of the music) and used my old Headphones to plug them into my Guitar Amp from time to time (you can get some nice volume for yourself without annoying the neighbours).
Im looking at a price range of ~100-150€ (if its a bit above I won't mind).
So if anyone has any recommendations they would be very much appreciated, thanks!

So if anyone has any recommendations they would be very much appreciated, thanks! I cannot stop recommending the HD 598's. They're just wonderful. ANy headphone in the HD series is, to be honest. For your music styles the HD 5XX series is great for Blues, okay(some say great, I find them okay) for metal and the bassier sounds. I love mine for rock, soundtracks etc. You should listen to a Game of Thrones soundtrack with them on and you'll be amazed. The 558 and 598 will be right up your alley, pretty much the best you can get without buying a soundcard/amp with it. The best thing about them is they are the most comfortable things ever. They're open, so no sweat and super hotness. They're big and circumaural, so no clamping and a lot of space for your ears, and the earpads are soft and just awesome to touch.
I'm fanboying over these cans but I think I do that rightfully so. The HD 5XX series is so great for gamers because it delivers awesome sound (for the price, you can't get better), while not distracting too much from gaming. It's not a gaming ''headset'' though.

No, not any phone from the HD series. Coming from ms-1 the signature, it will be very different from any of the Sennheiser family. Note that the ms-1 was known for its performance with Rock, I don't think the same can be said about HD 5xx series (as a matter of general consensus, I understand that you may have your personal preferences). Hell, it's hard to even recommend HD 6xx headphones for the genre.

Well, to be fair HD500-series do perform pretty well if driven by a good amp. Anyway, I'm not too familiar with the current prices of the lower-end Senn headphones but do they fall within his budget? If you're looking for something that performs great for its price I would actually recommend the Martin Logan Mikros 90. Though they are over-ear headphones, they can be had for lower than a hundred USD at the current market prices, and seriously perform like a 200-300 dollar set of headphones.

The Sennheiser 598 cost 164 euros which would be acceptable. I am using a Asus Xonar Essence STX Soundcard on my PC to play music with.

Ow my wallet :|
Maybeee, I'm still not sure where I want to take my headphones :d I think I may sell my in-ears for some portable over-ears, they're not too comfortable for long periods of time (mid freq bump)

Went to a HF meet and tried the HE580. Actually sounded pretty good but I think I like my T1s more interestingly. I tried out the V281 ($1900) ... it made the T1s sound ridiculous.
|
I'm looking at the around-the-ear Sennheiser Momentum's: All reviews say it has great sound quality but the size is a bit small. I've tried them on and they don't feel too uncomfortable...and the sound seems great as far as I can tell.
Do you guys know how this stacks up to other headphones in that $300-$400 range in terms of quality? I generally listen to everything and anything, but mainly getting them to really hear the details and intricacies of classical music
