I just got HiFiMan Re-262 and a FiiO E6 amp. Good thing I got the amp too--my computer and cell phone can't really push the signal well enough or something, and I end up essentially only getting sound in my left ear without an amp. Fantastic improvement over my crappy sony sport earbuds. Oh man oh man I'm just loving the sound quality. At first I was a bit turned off by how cheap the cables appeared to be, but they're really not bad at all and the music has sounded so much better it's not even better. Lows, mids and highs are all essentially balanced. Not too bassy nor too piercing of highs. Beautiful pair ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/06DB3.jpg) If you think that you definitely have to get a better amplifier. Especially considering, although I haven't tried the E6 (tried the E17 though), that it probably doesn't have enough juice to drive something over 100 ohms. The E6 is plenty capable of handling 150 ohm earbuds. Fiio's products may be cheap, but they're quite impressive for the price. There may be an issue though, although it may just be the fact that his description of the sound is subjective. Almost all reviews on the RE262 state that it is mid emphasized with lush mids and I'm worried that the fact that he called it balanced all around may be due to improperly driven headphones. Most people will use the term balanced pretty loosely though. If he had said neutral I may have been concerned, but it wouldn't be because of a lack of power.

Just bought myself these AKG hd242:s for 115€, my last headphones were sennheiser hd438:s and before that i had whatever headphones were comfortable and had low enough price (some 20e philips and sony cans) so im definetly not that experienced when it comes to quality headphones. That said i think these sound pretty damn good and are very comfortable in head, no detachable cable tho which is bit of a bummer. I was suprised about how much more bass these have than the sennheisers (438:s were supposed to be more bassier sennheisers but still had pretty low bass levels). Im not really that much of a bass head but its a plus since these can still play trebles and highs pretty well. Not that these are really bass headphones i guess, just used to low levels before. Generally speaking these have "smooth" and "warm" sound to them. I also like the retro look of them.
I havent yet listened much else than older rock like cream, clapton and rush plus some hans zimmer soundtracks with these but im definetly liking them so far.
Oh and im driving them from onboard chip realtek 889, im considering maybe buying some headphone amp later, but so far im pretty satisfied with the onboard, it can provide 2 times the sound volume i usually listen to and no hissing/buzzing so far.

Yeah I was using balanced very loosely It's definitely not the same across the board. I can see why some people would feel that the highs/lows could have been even stronger because of how amazingly robust the mids are :3 overall though it's perfect for me. Bass isn't overwhelming, highs not too piercing, and clear mids=sweetness~

I don't get the big deal with headphones haha. I just spend 5$ on a pair that lasts six months, and repeat
I must admit however, this thread does have some badass looking headphones...

For some people it's about the looks but it's not generally the primary concern.
I mean you might as well ask why do people buy expensive computers and fancy monitors when they could just buy old stuff that barely run the games on low quality.
|
Well, if $5 headphones works fine then no need to spend more! Some people don't really care much about graphics~
I would suggest that you try more expensive headphones though, maybe borrow from a friend, or test out one in a store You might like what you hear

Hey everyone. I need to get a new pair of earphones and want to make sure I get the best quality ones possible. I have about $80-$100 dollars to spend and was wondering if any of you had any suggestions.
Just for clarification I am looking for headphones and not a headset and I prefer headphones that go up in your ear and not the type that come with apple products.

Are wireless headphones terrible?
I want to lay in bed and watch stuff but there is an often-traveled path between the screen and my bed. Also it is the only cable that you can't really hide behind a desk somewhere so that bothers me.
Looking for something circumaural for music (jazz, classical, folk/world, experimental) and games. 100-150 USD budget.

Well, I was hoping to reduce wires, not get more of them.

I know what are you talking about, sometimes I wish I had pair of wireless headphones but my ears enjoy my grados too much. It's quality or utility, no one can answer that but you.

I wouldn't expect decent sound from wireless headphones under $200-300 and even then it probably wouldn't sound that great.
For $150 the Sennheiser RS-126 might be ok? Maybe not.

I have the Nokia BH-905i as wireless headphones and I really love them and they should fall in you budget.
Main plus: 30 hours battery on single charge Active Noise canceling (awesome in the train or walking near a busy road) Quite compact Good packaging (all the cables and adapter you'll ever need)
Main minus: Doesn't stay very well on the head if you look down, you'll get the feeling they are about to fall.
And also I should warn that I work at Nokia so I'm naturally biased :D but this is my personal experience with this model

For my phone I use the Sennheiser Px-200, great headphones. For indoor use I have my Sennheiser 518, also great headphones.
