If you need something with a microphone, I don't think there's much else to consider at that price. They're relatively expensive, but they're not high-end studio / broadcasting / aviation gear like some of what Sennheiser sells. Don't be expecting tank durability, and you should be good to go.

I was looking at the 7H Fnatic Edition - is it worth the 120 euros or are there better options out there? I really like my 7H's. Although they're probably the most expensive headphones I've purchased yet, they're definitely my favorite. The big downside with them though is that pretty much everyone eventually encounters a problem with one of the sides (generally the right side) cutting out whether it be from the cable (which steelseries was awesome about replacing for me, even sending me a spare) or the connections where the headphones can be pulled apart. I'm about to send mine in for the second time. I wish they'd partially remake these headphones and fixed this problem as they'd definitely continue being my favorite headset but once this happens a third time, I'll be trying out a sennheiser headset since my warranty is now over. Also, I haven't looked much at the fnatic edition but what I did see was all the pictures of it were with the orange cloth, not the (p)leather ear cushions. My 7H's came with both the leather and fabric ear cushions and I MUCH prefer the leather so I'd look into if it comes with replacement leather ones before you buy ^^

There are other differences too, probably, like the PC-350 can fold up somewhat. If you need something with a microphone, I don't think there's much else to consider at that price. Thanks, I think I'll settle for the 350 then since they are closed. And I don't expect any todays technology to be even close to my Nokia 3310 so no problem there.

![]() I´ve been listening to a hell of a lot music (mainly rock, metal) in the past few years and am thinking about getting some good headphones to get a better listening experience. Now, I´ve read through some of the pages in this thread and most people say you need an amplifier to get most out of the sound. Well, as I´m pretty new to the whole audio equipment thing, I don´t really know what Amp and what headphone to buy. I got an USB audio interface (focusrite sapphire 6) for some home recordings i did and i wondered if i could use it as an "amp". Would this be enough to get good headphones going? Does it even make sense what I´m saying? xD And which headphones would you recommend for a warm, powerful, but clear sound that fits rock/metal music? I would pay 70-300 $ but haven´t really decided yet. Sorry, if that´s not enough information ![]() ![]() And i have a last question, Beats by Dr Dre suck, did I understand this right? xD

Your audio interface includes a headphone amp with what looks to be decent specs at least among the little information given, but it's not particularly powerful. (To get something more powerful requires more effort, particularly for a USB bus-powered device.) It looks like it's limited to about 1V rms, with some lost across around 7 ohms output impedance. In Germany usually the prices of Austro-German brands tend to be better than alternatives compared to in the rest of the world, so maybe you can just get one of those. At the upper end of the price range, maybe AKG K550 if you want something closed? Sennheiser HD 598 for open? Maybe somebody else has a better idea.

![]() So, would you say the focusrite interface is enough as a start or would you recommend a real amp? Which one would you recommend alongside the sennheiser hd 598? My brother also has sennheiser headphones (sennheiser hd 65, about 46 $ on Amazon). Do you think I would hear a big difference to the 598? Would it be worth it to buy them anyway?

I would not recommend the HD598 for rock and metal although the HD598 are a deviation from the Sennheiser brand and house style in being more forward and "bright". Grado SR325is used. Replace the headband with a leather one or buy a cheap 15 dollar Beyerdynamic button up headband for improved comfort. All these headphones are fine unamped but do scale somewhat when paired with a decent amplifier. If you ever get an amplifier, this is the process. Find a decent DAC first, then amplifier. Garbage in -> Garbage out. And that's game.

I´m not really decided yet on which headphones to get. I´m not fully convinced about the Grado ones yet, as they are a bit too expensive and they don´t seem to fully surround your ear (is that right?). As for the sennheiser HD598 I´m not sure either. Can anyone else confirm that they aren´t suited or not great for Rock/Metal music? It would be nice to hear some other recommendations that fit my taste ![]() Sorry guys, I´m really confused right now, so many different headphones, and I struggle to differ between the different characteristics ![]()

Also, I own the HD 598, and it's true that they're not too great with metal - they don't have the same impact that Grados have, and have a smoother and relatively softer sound overall (I think my $100 MS1 is better for metal than hd598). Still, the HD 598 is my favorite headphone that I own and easily outclasses my MS1 in all other genres.

There is another thing I´m wondering right now. Can you actually make a difference between closed and open headphones? Is one kind better than the other in the same price range? Or is it just taste? About the AKG k550. The reviews on amazon.de don´t tend to be too positive. Some are saying the aren´t really comfortable and the bass is lacking. Can anyone confirm this? I´m not really sure if I should trust some of them as I already got two recommendations for them here.
