Yeah, that was one of the two times I've been speechless at a present. The other was when I opened my N64 on Christmas morning. Except instead of speechless I probably woke the neighborhood with screaming if they weren't already awake. ![[image loading]](http://i565.photobucket.com/albums/ss97/james-antonio/HD_800_Front.jpg) I'm currently powering them using my Apogee Duet, its got a very nice headphone amp in it, as well as functions as my two channel I/O. I <3 my system. I've never heard of people using the apogee with the HD800. Maybe it works but man I have more gear used up on my lowly DT990.
Yeah its not ideal, but still being a college student means I have to be really picky with what I spend my money on. So the all-in-one solution seemed good to me, and the Duet is a nice product. I'd of course love to have a Benchmark or something for my monitoring, but I'd love a Ferrari, too. :p

I'm considering purchasing HD 555's soon. I've had my HD 280s for years now and it's time for an upgrade. Currently 555's are 85 dollars on Amazon, what other headphones would you suggest in this price range? I'm a big fan of Sennhesier but am obviously open to other companies.

It is the Grado HP2 Much more desirable than PS1000 imho! Grado is going in the wrong direction with their GS1000/PS1000 lines. The old school HP1/HP2 and briefly available PS-1 are Grado's best!

I'm not familiar with either, but my understanding is that an HD 555 is not really that significant of an upgrade over an HD 280. Granted, there's open vs. closed to consider, and they do sound quite different. I'd just recommend waiting until funds allow and then jumping at a good deal in the $150 range.

I have the best racket on headphones: Buy a $20-$30 pair from Best Buy and get the $10 warranty. They will break after hard use in 6-8 months. Use warranty to get a new one, warranty automatically renews, repeat ad nauseum.
That's how I've been getting my headphones for the past 5 years.

I know the old-school metal Grados are something else but I'm not that into Grado. Tried some Alessandro MS1's and they were just OK.

AKG k271 mkii, best headphones in in their price range in my ALL KNOWING OPINION.
But really if you're looking for some good cans check these out. They look cool, and super comfortable and have an awesome automatic cutoff when you take them off. Any other audiophiles want to argue? I dare ya.

Got a pair of HD650's that i use pretty much 12+ hours a day. I can barely feel them, and sometimes i think my speakers are on instead of my headphones. The sound stage is THAT good.
I have an Asus essence ST (pci version of a high end sound card, with built in amp, that can handle 600oms.). It has a -124db SNR, and is pretty much amazing for the hd650.

Another Sennheiser headphone user here. I have the open HD 595 and the price is down at only 120 euro.

On the go I use Denon AH-C710 with my mp3-player.

I notice it 80% of the time. Getting ripped sideways out of the sockets multiple times due to me standing up and tripping over myself breaks em pretty fast.

I have a pair of Shure SE210s for the bus ride and a pair of Shure SRH-840 Studio monitors for home. the 840s and the greatest things I have ever owned and can afford at the moment. so clean and clear. In the market for a good portable headphone amplifier to be a bit cleaner and more efficient than my iPod classic and its lossless audio files.

Any suggestions for a $20-50 headphones?
I have previously owned: ATH-ES7 (headphone jack broke :/ but I wasn't big on the sound anyways), KSC75 (loved the sound, hated the openness, hated the clips), and am using MeElec M9's (like the sound, realized i hate IEMS)
I've been looking at JVC offerings, for the most part.

between 20-50$ you cant really get anything good unless you find something on sale into the upper end of that price range :S. At that price most headphones are almost the same with the only difference being personal comfort and wearability

I have Sennheiser HD650s, been saving money for a good DAC/Amp, and maybe a cable....
