Otherwise I'm pretty happy with the quality I'm probably gonna get some k240's soon (the original, not the mkii's) and I'm really looking forward to it. You should be, they're very nice headphones. I'd consider getting an amp for them though, because otherwise they're pretty quiet (relatively speaking). I listen to them at about 5/6 volume on my ipod and I dont think I listen to music too loudly by any means. Also good call on getting the orignial. The drivers for the original are slightly better than for the mark 2s. I'm not going to be using them on my ipod much, so powering them shouldn't be so much of a problem. I want to get an amp soon, but I don't want to spend money on it yet.

This part of your statement is incorrect. You are assuming the headphones are somehow plugged directly into the original source. Since the user is obviously using some sort of equipment to begin with, using different equipment can change the sound and in the case of good equipment will change it for the better.

After spending 100-150$ headphones I think that's all the quality you need, anything above that is just not cost efficient.
Sure if you get a pair that's worth 300$ and compare it to a 150$ set you'll notice a difference, but both have great quality, and the only way you can really tell is because you are comparing them one after the other.
IMO. Why settle for a $60 game when some $20 game could last the same time? Why buy a $1000 Intel CPU when a $250 AMD CPU can do the same speed? Why buy $100 shoes, when $20 shoes could do the same? It is preference. Or maybe the thing that costs more is actually worth it, depending on your needs and wants. Everything has diminishing returns as price goes up. And almost everything is preference. Was it really necessary asking that question? imo, it wasn't asked in the right way. of course there will be small but noticeable differences between high end top tier headphones and mid class ones. but i really really think that a lot of people who go for a $300 dollar one wouldn't be able to tell the difference between it and a much cheaper one. if the more expensive one makes them happier than the cheaper one, then good for them, the free market has succeeded. but if they do realize that they can't hear the difference, that the cheaper one sounds the same, that having a higher price tag doesn't make the product better in many cases, then maybe they can save themselves a couple bucks. definitely not saying that people spending a ton on the best tube amps, DACs, cables, and headphones aren't getting their money's worth. after all, that person is the one who determines how much he or she values the goods they're spending it on. and there definitely are people to whom having such a high end setup will make a difference. so yes, it's preference. but there's also the fact that some people think they are getting the better product when they would have been just as well off getting something cheaper. and then there's the debate of whether this is good or not. That's exactly what I'm saying. For example when I bought a fuzz box for my guitar I looked at the different ones and some of the cheaper ones sounded great, pretty much as good as the more expensive ones. Then I played them side to side and noticed the more expensive one sounded better. If I didn't notice it before though, is it worth the extra money? I won't be missing something my ears aren't sensitive enough to hear unless compared side by side. It's just my two cents. On another note, I need to buy a decent set of headphones. Durability, comfort, and all around good/balanced sound. Suggestions are appreciated yeah i understand where you're coming from. for headphones - what's the price range? and what headphones have you previously listened to? i know it's kinda ... sounds elitist to ask this, but i truly think it makes a difference in what you should buy. i explained why in a previous post in this the last page. I had a nice bose head set but it was my parents so I didn't get to keep it. It was an older model of their current Quietcomfort Acoustic noise headsets. Price range somewhere in the middle, probably around 150$. i'd say look up some reviews of the audio-technica M50 and see if you like them Has some awesome reviews, definitely considering them. Any 2nd choices? Just to have some comparison and options. http://www.head-fi.org/forum/thread/433318/shootout-57-portable-headphones-compared-audio-technica-ath-m50-added-11-12

I see a lot of talk in this thread about Sound Quality, and the amount you get per dollar.
Sound Quality (SQ) is not a measure, at least not the way most people talk about it. While you could define sound quality as: "The deviation from the completely linear response at all frequencies the human ear can perceive.", this is usually not what people are talking about. They talk almost exclusively about subjective matters. So please, try not to use SQ as a measure of any kind, it's an empty phrase.
Secondly, I see a lot of debate about whether people can hear the difference between a $100 pair of headphones and a $300 pair. The answer for anyone with a modicum of interest and a tiny bit of experience listening analytically can, without a shadow of a doubt.
Why? Because they are different. Very very very very much so. Two pairs of headphones that are of different makes, or even types, always have a different response. They pretty much per definition sound different. So the question becomes: Are high-end headphones truly worth the trouble?
The answer to that question is much, much more subjective. The best way to find out is to listen. Listening is, without exception, your best bet at finding out what headphones you like best. Whether that means you want to get the cheaper one or the more expensive one, is quite simply irrelevant. The differences you perceive can either be positive or negative in your opinion, and it's up to you to decide which you like best.
I own a pair of Audio-Technica W-5000's. I had been foolish, purchasing them without listening to them in advance. I had only heard their older brothers, the W-1000's before at a meet, and while I had pretty much fallen in love with those there, I had purchased the W-5000's instead.
They are excellent, classy headphones with a refined sound. When I put them on, I started listening and soon thought someone was standing behind me. The soundstage was huge to my ears, coming from a pair of Beyerdynamic DT-880's and I was startled at that. They are very nice headphones, but I would always recommend anyone not to buy them unless you've heard them.
I am now thinking of getting some Stax-SR202's, which I have also not heard. However, I know that they are near-identical to the SR-404LE's that I have heard, which to me had the best sound I have ever heard coming from anything. I hope to hear those as well, before I purchase them.

Gaming headsets are a scam, buy yourself a good set of Senns or something.
HD555s are amazing for their price
