Why can't Amazon just say "we choose not to sell your product"? I mean it doesn't really matter why right? Doesn't Amazon have a say in what products they sell? If they don't want to sell say lawnmowers, then what does it matter?

I mean they can't honestly expect this thing to really sell for them.

I don't get this world sometimes.

The author can barely spell or construct coherent sentences; that should be the reason everyone is so offended.

Wait, what?

According to the description the book is apparently about how to make "situations", by which I assume the author means relationships and intercourse, between adults and children safer for the children. How does it teach the reader to avoid getting caught?

Why hate on Amazon? Taking a no censorship policy is excellent, if you want to hate on someone, hate on the sicko who wrote it, the sick people who published it and the sicko's reading it.

I'm kind of confused. I understand this isn't as graphic as the rapeplay incident, but isn't this technically the same thing? In fact, I would probably think this is worse if its trying to prevent pedophiles from getting caught and... well it's essentially a guide, rather than living a wild fantasy type thing going on in Japan...

Don't get me wrong, I don't think either of them really have a place on something like Amazon -- but what exactly the publishers were thinking when they were pulling this one out as a book. Pedophilia isn't good in any case in my head...

This is correct. Child molestation is often about power/manipulation/dominance rather than love. Rape has nothing to do with love or sex. Many child molesters who rape children do so for the same reason they might murder somebody, to feel the power over something weaker than them, to exercise control over something.

There are pedophiles who intend to hurt children, this is undeniable, but I'd say it's a minority of them TBH.

The Mayo Clinic regularly reports that 80+% of child abuse cases involve people who fit the criteria for a pedophile. I don't think I have ever seen academic papers published below that number, perhaps for lack of trying.

Really? Pedophiles "Love" children? Is that what they tell themselves?

Blatant propaganda is blatant.

But, but, we just want to love the children and make them feel good! hahaha

I have to take the source accuracy from my Abnormal Psychology professor and I may try to find the sources later but there are actually a lot more pedophiles in the world than you might think. The main point is that the ratio of pedophiles to child molesters are actually like 94:1, (professor gave it as a percentage) and so maybe 80+% of child abuse cases involve people who fit the criteria for a pedophile which is actually, statement wise, is pretty shaky, the number of pedophiles that are not child molesters remains pretty large.

Pedophile literally means child love.

Deconstructed into Greek roots, pedophilia means love for children, yes.

But, in 2010 ad, it means an adult who has sexual desires for children. Consult ANY dictionary.

An attraction to prepubescent children. I don't have a problem with it.

I know you don't have a problem with it. I also know why you don't.

Hopefully we'll be able to screen fetuses for mental disorders like this so parents can make rational decisions.

If you're implying I should have been aborted I'd just like to say fuck you.

But he's over 13.

I chuckled.

But I'd just like to see that people shouldn't be defined by their sexuality, no matter how deviant. If someone is a pedophile, a bondage enthusiast, a rape fetishist, a zoophile, that has very little impact on how they live the majority of their life and to what worth they can contribute to society.

A pedophile is harmless, a child molester isn't. To say people should be killed or eliminated for thoughts and feelings makes you worse than any pedophile.

People are too complex to be labeled by these things. It's of little importance especially considering many pedophiles are not exclusively attracted to children and can live their lives happily having intimate relationships only with adult women. It's preposterous.

That majority of people have difficulty holding rational discourse on any topic, let alone one as immediately controversial as this. I agree fully with your statements though. I don't really blame the furious mob for their visceral reaction but I cannot and will not attempt to justify it.

Sure, it's a morally gray area (okay, it's pretty terrible) but that's no reason to ban it. I'm not going to pretend that kids are going to read this and know signs to look for about potential pedophiles, but I don't think pedophiles are going to buy this either. In fact, I don't think this is going to sell at all. Why wouldn't a pedophile buy this? All it takes is a court order and Amazon is forced to show their sales information for this book, which would be trouble for a pedophile that bought this book. Hell, the police might as well thank the author for handing them a list of potential pedophiles on a silver platter.

With that said, I'd be okay with Amazon not selling this. I think it's Amazon's right not to sell it just as much as it is the consumers' right not to buy it (Amazon's punishment for not selling it would be revenue and political fallout). What I wouldn't be okay with is our government telling us we can't buy it.

If you really want to blame someone, blame the publisher for publishing it.

Shame on you, Amazon, believing in free speech does not mean you need to empower sex criminals. This will cause many more offensive e-book guides to appear on amazon in the near future. They are being written right now.

You do realize just because Amazon has the book for sale doesn't mean people will buy the book, right? Amazon doesn't have those kinds of magical powers to force people to buy their products.

As the biggest book seller in the world, it is a guarantee to say that the book will get sales as a result of being on amazon. No magic plz.

That's just a result of greater exposure, it's hardly some active process engaged in by Amazon. Not to mention this point doesn't argue for or against anything or contribute to the topic at all. Unless you can show some kind of advertising effort Amazon itself is doing on behalf of this book I do not see how it is "empowering" anyone.

If you're have trouble spotting a pedophile, follow this simple guide:
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=spot_the_pedo

all joking aside: that is pretty messed up both the guy who made the book, and amazon's decision. To put it into simpler terms its like the controversial thread that was posted a week ago where a guy was beat to death while bystanders watched except: in this case, amazon are the bystanders, the guy who killed the other guy is the author of this horrendous book, and the guy that was beat to death is the child who will be taken advantage of because of this piece of trash litterature.

You were doing pretty good until this.

Implying the other person of being a pedophile and implying they should have been aborted is pretty much the lowest you could possibly go.

I think people can be aborted for numerous reasons, including issues I have. That is not to say you shouldn't try again for a better combination, pedophiles are not a specifically dark place in my heart. I don't support abortion of birthed humans in any way, shape, or form! It will still be nice to not have scoliosis, poor eyesight, and depression run in the family. I'm enthusiastic about the possibilities I will have when I have children, provided the technology is better. I'll admit I timed the comment for effect.

My other implication is strikingly accurate. I don't deserve a pat on the back though, it is so transparent a lesser monkey could figure it out.

You're being ridiculously biased for the sake of your argument. No reasonable sane person I know of would read those quotes "use condoms with minors, but don't leave pics around because that can get you arrested" and interpret that as anything else but a guide of how to molest minors and get away with it.
Great people talk about ideas. Average people talk about things. Small people talk about other people.

Romantic sexual tendancies are not genetic, or at least not entirely, sexual fetishes are aquired, so the notion of aborting based on them wouldn't work. Not to mention it would be highly immoral, at least to me.

While I don't personally condone this type of activity in any way... I support Amazon's decision to carry the book.

When should certain views be censored? If sodomy is illegal, should books that are pro-homosexuality be banned? I seem to recall that people tried to ban the Anarchist Cookbook but that failed as well. The censorship of knowledge is the path which leads away from freedom and democracy.
