I just saw Collateral today and I must say it's the best movie I've seen this year (yep, better than Bourne). Jamie Foxx played a great role, not your typical ghetto character either (ie: Tyrese in 2fast2furious, etc..). He played a character like your average Joe, but in this movie, that average Joe happens to be black. Something you don't see in movies at all. But that's not all, his acting in this movie is superb.
Anyways, Tom Cruise played very well as well. He played as the bad guy in this role as a badass, psycho assassin.
And what's best of all? The whole movie takes place in downtown L.A. at night. They've filmed beautiful scenes and added great music to them. The intro reminds alot of Lost in Translation and then it cuts down to the action.
Well, I just want to recommend Collateral to anyone who haven't seen it yet and if you have, I want to hear your opinions on it.

Tom Cruise was the best part of that movie, and I like him a lot more now. Good movie.
|
imo one of tom cruise's weaker films, albeit he still acted very well in it. jamie foxx did a good job too. it's just i felt that they didn't do a very good job with the climax - so much build up but not a very good resolution. good idea, but the plot wasn't as good as expected
and bourne supremacy wasn't that good...
|
however, manchurian candidate was awesome. denzel washington is amazing
|
I agree that the plot could have been a little better but the acting was great. Tom Cruise did an awesome job
It's a good movie
|
ya i agree with you about the ending :/
|
Tom Cruise was so cool in that movie.
|
I needed a movie with a good bad ass. Spiderman had a woman as the hero, and Will Smith was your average "everyone doubts him, but what he says is exactly what will happen" guy, not a bad ass.

I saw this wack ass movie the other day. I mean it was entertaining but damn there funny how they tried to pass this off as a serious intense thriller or some shit. They got tom cruise goin around like he a super villian or something, i kept on thinking he shoulda been in Spider man 2. How he gonna get into a car accident where the car flips like 10 times then get out and walk away like its nothing. Then he gonna get shot in the face or shoulder (wherever the fuck it was) then act unphazed. Then the whole damn movie he showin off his skills as a hitman, doing tumbles on the floor and doing all this pin point shooting and at the end of the movie Jamie Foxx (a damn cab driver) gonna out gun him when they face to face, wtf sense does that make? And also i thought hitmen supposed to be covert like and stealthy, this cat tom cruise just walking into clubs with his guns blazing... shooting people in public. Dont even wear a mask... throwing people out of windows.. going from one killing to the next like its nothing. After the club shooting he drove away in a taxi without a single cruiser following his ass... how realistic is that shit, they had the whole damn police unit up in there and he still went in to kill the guy, and left. I was actually laughing at this. Then at the end of the movie Jamie Foxx walking off with jada, im thinking "where the hell is he going? after all the stuff he did (pulled a gun on an officer) and partly an accomplice to all the kilings...) he definitely gonna have some explaining to do downtown at the police station. But no, just like hollywood wants, he ends the movie having captured jada pinkett's heart...

Yeah I just saw Collateral the other day, it was really really good. Tom Cruise played the role very very well!
|
dirk, jamie foxx didn't end the movie having jada's heart captured, it's left out open for the audience to decide
oh and he got shot in the ear. you can see his ear chipped.
|
Tom Cruise was cool. But Jamie Foxx was the better actor in the film, in my opinion.
Also, I'm sure all you Michael Mann fans will agree with me that "Heat" was a better movie (He directed that also).
|
Not to go off topic or anything (which is why i'll keep this short and simple), or take anything away from the movie, though a friend of mine while in the marines had met (not really MET-met) Tom Cruise on the set of Top Gun. He said he was the whiniest, meticulous little brat he's ever seen, I.E. a self-absorbed prima donna.
|
have to check Heat out. NYTimes said there hadn't been a realistic action movie since Heat came out or something like that.. thanks for reminding me.

ya, fuqin-suck i agree with you on jamie being the better actor. he played the humanistic role quite well. most movies ive seen it's the black dude that's the cool cat, and white guy as well.. the "whiteboy". But by turning the tables, it's tough to pull it off, and i think jamie foxx did a great job.

oh and he got shot in the ear. you can see his ear chipped. Oh ok, getting shot in the ear isnt anything he'd be in pain about. My bad.

Manchurian canidate was good, yes.
|
I liked the scene where they have hella Korean babes partying ^^ Overall it's just one of those Tom Cruise crowd appeasers, no deeper meaning on the plot, just funny talks, good action and good ol' Tom. I saw the Manchurian Canidate the other day also, I guess if you were to ask me to rate the two films I would pick the Manchurian Canidate. At first I thought about the title I thought it had something to do with China (Manchuria) get it? Hahah...
|
wtf manchurian canidate was total crap on a stick despite the good acting and the subject matter it was somehow totally boring from start to finish. u always knew what would happen next, except it just hasnt happened yet. freakin unwatchable.. no character development, no story, no surprise, no plot!
spoilers warning: a guy has weird dreams about how he was brainwashed in desert storm. then he finds out it was true. then he finds out he is brainwashed too but the other brainwashed guy lets him kill the brainwashed guys instead and then the fbi takes him away and busts the bad brainwashing guys. wtf.
|
Manchurian was awesome, going to see Collateral very soon

that's nothing i didn't know was going to happen thanks to the trailers.

well thats the whole movie. theres nothing else. except you see it happen. exactly what u knew would. slloowly. not any depth to characters or dialouge either. or storytelling. one stock undeveloped flat character after another is passed before your eyes and thats pretty much the whole film
the highlight of manchurian is when denzel pucnhes a guy in the face. of course it doesnt even effect the plot at all. u dont even know who that guy is. u never see him again. and u dont give a shit about them. any of them. all the chars dont exist. it's like watching paint dry. i am pretty sure everyone walked out of the theater disappointed. im surprised ppl are saying it's good. it seems like they really ran out of time or money on that one cuz they took a bunch of good actors and a potential for a real movie and they released something that is below average on the watchability scale and attempts to be artsy to an amaturish level with the camera work.
|
to be honest, you make it sound like what i pictured. maybe a little worse.
|
hm oh yeah and collateral or whatever.. it does a good job building up but it flops on some "important" dialouge and flops the finale.. any significance at all. but it's very watchable, has characters, etc. much better than manchurian canidate even though it's completely forgettable except maybe how tom cruise kills some motherfuckers relly sweet (not a spoiler i think). theres interesting enough matter n shit earlier on to.. its an average forgetable but maybe not completely movie. um. 3 stars out of 5?
manchurian canidate. 1.5 stars. because its not the actors' fault. they play their worthless roles better than they were written :/
|
I saw it tonight. An excellent movie. I thought it was funny in the club though with all of those gunshots all the people were there for so long.

Well, thats obvious, Heat was an epic movie with possibly some of the best actors in the last 30 years (de Niro, Pacino, Kilmer)
Collateral was a good movie, but it didnt have the budget, actors, or overall plot/setup to be anything more than a more than decent movie.
I still liked Collateral though, really fun movie to watch with a bad guy you want to root for.

Baahahah, while i really enjoyed the movie like everyone else, every single thing youve said here is exactly right. I thought about half of those things after the movie ended, but its all true. However the movie was still acted and filmed well, and thats what i liked most about it. And they actually made LA look like LA. Half the movies that come out are filmed in the same areas but the dazzle em all up you could never tell what glamourous city they took place in.
Only other gripe i had was the lack of silencer use. Using a full on glock or whatever on the thugs sending sonic booms through the alley, while realistic in sound, too risky to try. You would think a real assasin would use a silencer for everything, like Antonio and Sylvester in "Assasins". Now theres a good hitman movie.
|
I thought it was pretty good apart from the ending.
|
jamie foxx playing a socially inept timid nerd isnt really a stretch imo

movie was good, i thought they tried to do some character development with the hitman etc., but i didn't really buy it... good movie for action though
