I have these, they aren't much, but considering that before them all I ever had were those crappy little white ones that come with a computer, they do their job.

I use an old set of Klipsch 4.1 desktop speakers I got in college, if they still make computer speakers, I'd highly recommend them. Also will have the main computer hooked up to the home theater definitive audio setup once I get around to relocating, but that's overkill :-)

Soundcraft Spirit Absolute 2 Monitors. Very clean studio monitors at an affordable price, they cost me like $500 but that's 7 years ago, they should be cheaper now. Plus, they have 'craft' in their name .

I really hate giant basses, as there are 3 other people living in my house, and I always stay up late, so I have to play my music/sounds at an extremely low level, otherwise the bass just transmits throughout the house. I guess I just don't like bothering people with the bass, so I use a set of headphones. Audio technica ad700's which I keep on my head basically 24/7

That's what i like about the logitech z5450, when you activate the night mode, it changes the sound dynamic a bit so you won't notice that big of difference yourself but people in other rooms notice it.

And I love them.

I would recommend getting a 2.0 over any 5.1 if you don't plan on using the surround (listening to music 95% of the time -> 2.0 owns a 5.1 at the same price).
Im not a n00b, I just play like one.

These... pretty good, I got mine for $68 (free shipping) so it was definitely worth it. I've seen them on woot! for as low as ~$50 now.

They have a bit of trouble with extreme highs so the tweeters aren't the highest quality I assume, but still very good set of speakers.

If you're looking for computer speakers, a lot of stereo receivers have an auxiliary input where you can plug in RCA (or takes 1/4" if you're lucky). Just get a cord to go from 1/4" to RCA output (or whatever it needs), then you can use regular stereo speakers as your computer speakers.

I've had these for about 7 years and they have extremely nice sound, a bass setting, and are very solid. I bought them for 50$ at Best Buy. I tried to buy my mom new speakers a month ago and tried two different kinds for 50$. They were both very poor quality. Apparently speaker quality has diminished in the past years

They have new versions of it out, and I highly recommend these. Seriously they are great ^^

Edit: A guy above me posted the newer version of them. He's right in that they are extremely good price:quality ratio.

Creative Gigaworks S750 in combination with the Creative SB X-Fi Elite Pro
The ultimate orgasm for computer sound. They were not cheap but the sound they produce is worth it imo.

I also have some Trust Dynamic Soundwave 10 (80 watt) speakers for in my kitchen. Sadly I couldn't find a picture of them

They are about 15 years old I guess but still deliver a kickass sound and I really don't want to part with them

I doubt I will be able to find a picture of them. I have very old Technics SB-F900 bookshelves that my dad bought years ago. Got them running through an equally old Trio KA-54, which I believe is a Kenwood before they changed their name from Trio to Kenwood. Despite being extremely old and probably cheap for the time, they sound a lot better than any of these Creative or Logitech speakers that I've heard. Not surprising really, even the cheapest hi-fi bookshelves are bound to sound better than those tiny satellites you get with "desktop speakers".

As for headphones I have some Senneheiser HD650s which I love. Got them running through a Zero DAC/amp which is an amazing d-a converter and amp for the price.

I think it may be EMI from some other activity in your computer, most likely your network interface (especially on wireless, if that's the case). Try watching a video or listening to music already on your computer while downloading a large file, using a well-seeded torrent, or some other high-bandwidth activity and see if you have the same problem.

logitech Z-5300 speakers, got em for $100 or so.

Most of the time though, I use my Sony SA-5000 headphones, via a DIY headphone amp and DAC.

currently using a set of swan m12's... good quality in all ranges, tight & accurate bass -- loud without getting muddy.

the m10's are also very very nice, although the sub is kinda small. doesn't detract from the quality of the bass though.

Any recommendations for good computer speakers?

Mainly for music, budget around $500-600.

I've got these speakers too haha. Looking at how many people in this thread do, I'd say these have the best quality for a decent price.

If you've got that big of a budget, just get Bose Companion 5 speakers. They're the best. $400.

Edit, and on Bose. Do your research before buying Bose. Don't get me wrong. If you want cough "classy" cough.. easy to hide, woman approved, overpriced speakers. They rock. But if your after pure sound quality, there are a lot of options that cost less that produce as good or superior sound. Course.. they might be ugly.. and big.. and not woman approved.

Yeah, nice set, got them for sale.

I also have a set of Sennheiser PC350's that I use during late nights as to not wake the other people in my house, I hate using them during the summer though because they're closed cans and thus make the area they cover heat up in summer weather.

Probably not the best solution (because I have to use an audio-out cable, so lossy), but it works. It's the only way I can get a headphone jack close enough to my head.

Nice sound on music btw. Not so great for games, but that's what I've got headphones for anyway.

I have a Logitech 5.1 system that I don't really use anymore as I recently got Sennheiser HD 555s and just use those. However, I may soon start taking advantage of the optical port on my X-Fi and connect it to my home theater system, we shall see.

Have these as well, and they're always like 50% off on amazon. Just an amazing 5.1 set capable of tremendous power, music is so good and watching movies can feel like a theatre experience. I had them bolted on my wall surrounding my room at one point, that made for a great setting.

I have these as well. After checking out a couple different speaker systems (namely harmon-kardon and bose), I got these on newegg a year ago for $110 and I couldn't be happier. The sound quality is really amazing for the price, and the bass is surprisingly loud.

obviously, i've had the headphone in mind when i planned the setup rather than speakers
but it still sounds great (i prefer listening to speakers now, although objectively HD650 is superioer)

So jealous. i'd kill for that set up. and VERY true on the bose...so overrated and overpriced T_T

On my computer i've just got some 2.1 set up from altec lansing i picked up for 50$ like 5 years ago. Been looking to upgrade. I (my dad) has a pretty nice Klipsch set up for the home theatre though...i will steal them some day! Now that i have a job i'll probably try to pick up some klipsch or polk speakers and hook them up to my TV + laptop, they usually go on sale on woot or slickdeals pretty often.

Seriously those things are probably quite similar to your average Logitech system. Get a pair of studio monitors if that's your budget.

I used to own Logitech z-560s (4.1), which sounded absolutely fantastic for the price, but over the years the satellite connections started crapping out one by one until I had only one functioning speaker left. Sad day when I had to scrap the system, and I moved onto the more compact Audioengine A2's. Good speakers, but I definitely could use a sub since the low end isn't very good. Need to upgrade soon enough...
