The Earth seems to be pissed off so far this year.
All the article says injuries reported, it's not the strongest earthquake to hit the country apparently, 1999 Earthquake killed over 2,000 people. No word on any deaths, if any.
Source Source
TAIPEI, Taiwan – A powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake rocked southern Taiwan on Thursday, terrifying residents, disrupting communications and triggering at least one large fire. Local news reports said several people were injured.
No tsunami alert was issued. The quake was centered in the same mountainous region of rural Kaohsiung county that endured the brunt of the damage from Typhoon Morakot, a devastating storm that killed about 700 people last August.

My mom and little sister were in Taiwan when that 1999 earthquake struck. They tell me it was the most horrifying experiences they've ever had =/. Hopefully this one wasn't that bad.

the first recent earthquake happed in Haiti, then in Chile and now in Taiwan.judging by the pattern the probable place for a next earthquake (hope there won't be any) is somewhere west of Taiwan.

yeah it's not that there's more earthquakes, it's just that earth's aim is getting better
|
I live in North (Taipei), but couldn't even feel anything. No big news from Southern friends either. No biggie, I guess.
But yeah, earth is pissed. Oh well, humanity deserves it...
|
I live around 80km from the epicenter and all I got was getting my cable and internet knocked out for half an hour....
Still, annoying when you are playing a MMO at the time....

I can see the next news now.
"Terrifying earthquake of 0.1 magnitude strikes the Big Apple!"

On March 04 2010 18:39 baal wrote: how is a 6.4 earthquake news... that is barely noticable at all, most ppl dont even feel it. 6.4 is no biggy but since we had the two recent big eathquakes in Haiti and Chile every earthquake is news. Taiwan should be ok though. They have a lot of experience with this and there buildings are quakeproof against an quake of this magnitude.

I was on the first floor and it shook quite bigger than expected. Those folks at 10 stories or higher musta been freaked
