I acquired a handful of signed SK T1 T-shirts at last years WCG Grand Final from a Korean friend of mine. I had plans on giving them away in a competition or perhaps have them as prizes in a tournament, after brainstorming and some discussions, I feel its best to auction off the t-shirts and donate all proceeds (less my ebay and Paypal fees) to a charity. (Charity to be decided...)
I was originally going to use the same format as SonuvBob using ebay's own donating system, but the the administration fees taken out I feel are too high so I have opted to list them publicly. Upon sale, take out my ebay and Paypal fees and donate the remaining total directly to charity.
Regarding the trust issue, that I am not exploiting this. All I can say is that I have been part of this community for over 6 years, I have been a referee for the WCG grand final 6 times (twice as chief referee) and I have met many Teamliquid members and staff in person who will hopefully vouch for me.
T-Shirts - All the T-shirts are brand new with tags - Although they could do with an iron as they got crinkles in my luggage. (Adidas, made in Korea)

yeah...
But good luck with the auction! I hope you can raise a lot.

i agree. i worked for red cross on their executive board... there are better places. For one, only 75% of your donation goes to the cause and 25% they keep.. which is a really bad rate. Also, volunteers --> inefficent use of $$$$$

I have lowered all but the Boxer shirt by 25%
Thanks for the feedback.

I'm still open for ideas for the choice of charity. I'm just not a big fan of Child's play.
|
i considered bidding, then i saw where the money goes. :/
|
I don't think they're too expensive at all seing how much the CJ shirts went for.. and SKT1 is at least 10x more epic anyway.
Hey why don't you set up a list of candidates for the charity and then people can vote for who they'd like to help the most?
|

I think this is what I might do at the end of the Auction, I'm not too familiar with the red cross. I had no idea they were so disliked...
|
dammit i had been looking for progaming stuff to buy on ebay for so long, just shelled out a bunch for the hwaseung jacket so im broke T_T

CJ charity shirts went over $200, so lowering the shirt was pretty unnecessary. It is a "auction" after all.

Hey Armin, I pm'd you my suggestion for a charity... it's not a big name one but it means quite a bit to my family and I.
|
Boxer's signature looks awesome.. Best looking one for sure.
|
I still have a TL-shirt here that's signed by Stork, Luxury and Jaedong. I wonder how much it'd be worth...

I dont think its a matter of like or dislike. Red Cross is good in that it was established way early, chartered by USA government, expanded throughout the world and is a globally recognized symbol of aid.
But in terms of execution, to put in gaming terms, the Red Cross is noob.
I mean they had a report that about their examination of Gitmo Bay and said it was A-Ok happy place of rainbows.
Those, may or may not be the exact words used, but you get my gist.
|
BTW, i think now is a bad time to sell. PPL are less mindless fanboys now cause of SC2 hype and these plays lack of great success in OSL/MSL.
|
I am not a fan of SK Telecom, so I don't intend to bid, but I really hope you get a healthy response for this. Auctioning them for charity is laudable. I laud you.
|
Ergghh what an absolutely horrid time to be out of money!
|
boxer's signature is so cool
every time i see it i awe at it
boxer knows how to micro that pen imo

Agreed. I'm not the biggest SKT1 fan, but everyone should be a Boxer fan. And the signature is pro.

Red Cross is super respected and provide a ton of aid to a lot of countries. What's everyone's problem with it? Or am I just too American.

i think chile and our actual situation its a good place to think in charity for this issue, in the chilean community of sc players, many are having problems with their buildings, electronic equipment, etc. In my case for example, my girlfriend family lose the only source of money they have, their restaurant collapsed. Other members are suffering many kinds of material losses too.
|
|
Hey, why not allow the person who purchased the shirt decide which charity to give the funds to? Seems reasonable.

A current problem would probably be more poignant and raise more money than a general charity. I like this idea, or Haiti relief.
|
That is the main reason why I originally had the red cross in mind, because you can pick specifically to donate the money to either Haiti or Chile relief, but the moment I mentioned that charity it almost started hate bandwagon.
I will raise another topic once the auction is over and let the public decide where they would like the money to go.
|
I want to bid on all of them but I'm really afraid of accidentally winning more than one : )
|
this is so cool!!!
now i want my skt t1 shirt so bad... my skt t1 shirt from lilsusie hasn't arrived yet, i think it got lost somewhere
|
you are a great person, i hope you raise alot for charity.

It's nice that you're trying to sell these for charity. I would definitely by one, but my problem is that they're all Larges. I'm a small/medium.....

Charity should be the Sea shepard anti wailing, etc.. read up on them - or greenpeace, peta or any other environmental organization
wish i had a fantasy shity
edit: why haiti relief? they caused it
|
Lol please not PETA. Their methods of advertising themselves by tearing down people who choose to eat meat is just shameful. And how is PETA environmental? Lol.
Chilean or Haitian Relief sounds good. The earthquake in Chile was stronger and more recent, but Haiti was more devastated.
|
You sir, are a good person. I would take part in the auction...but i dont make my own money, so its a no-go for me ^;

edit: why haiti relief? they caused it It comes as absolutely no surprise to me that a person who thinks donating money to stop whaling takes priority over earthquake relief for a destroyed nation cannot even spell whaling. I will personally go out of my way to eat whale at the next opportunity out of a compulsion to distance myself from people like you. I'm embarrassed by association through our common species.

will winners be able to get copies of receipts from the charities? I'm not trying to imply anything but I was burned once before on a different website and I might be able to write part of my jersey off on my taxes as well.
|
The donation will be made as a one off payment, or multiple depending on the number of charities, and not as a per purchase donation. I don't plan on writing the donation off but surely you can't expect to get the signed shirts and your money back?
|
you don't get your money *back* but in the USA at least the total you spend on charities can be taken off your gross income before you figure out your taxes. If I spend 300 dollars on a charity auction that would end up being a 30-35 dollar tax break for me.
|
I will prob bid on the bisu this weekend if I can and it hasn't gone up more then a few bucks... nobody try to get the bisu shirt!

Maybe he's wants to donate people who cry a lot. The Chile earthquake was really fortunate that it hit an area that's prepared for earthquakes; that type of earthquake, had it hit anywhere else in the world, could have been a thousand times more devastating.
Good luck ebaying the shirts! I hope you get a lot of money to donate to charity!

You guys realize StalkerSC was trolling right? You cannot take what he says seriously.
Anyway, updates:
BoxeR's jersey is sitting at 157.50 AU. Not bad at all.
|
Dude! dont waste it on charity the taxes are there for a reason, its the goverment fault if they dont help the other countries, plus you are NEVER sure if your money is going to help other people and to be honest (where i live) it never does. If you really want to help im sure you probably know someone that needs money.
Buy some games, go buy some drinks, i dont know but seriously, dont waste it like that.
Ontopic: NOBODY BID ON THE FANTASY SHIRT IM WARNING YA.
|
GG everyone I got two shirts and I think my SC shirt budget for this month is exhausted. See you guys in April.
|
Damn, forgot to bid on these before they expired. Though the Boxer shirt was definitely out of my price range, the others were all more than reasonable.
|
How much did they sell for?
|
Congratulations to everyone who won, and thanks for all your bids.
We managed to raise $1245.00 (AUD) which will still work out to around +/- $1100 (USD) once I post the items.
I will post everything out in the next 1-2 days (as today is Sunday) and then make a thread for you guys to decide where you want the money to go.
|
shit, boxer sitting at $440, fantasy sitting ~$150
i nabbed the cheaper best shirt though! yay me!
