I keep getting this annoying Data File Error: Starcraft is unable to read a required file. Your Starcraft CD may not be in the CDROM drive. Please ensure that the starcraft disc is in the CDROM drive and press OK. To leave the program, press Exit.
My disc is clearly the CDROM drive. I reinstalled Starcraft to make sure I had all the files in the folder. I install Starcraft vanilla. Then I install chocolate with my disc. The cdrom drive read chocolate while I was installing it, but when I double clicked StarCraft.exe and the disc was still there, I got the error message again T__T I tried using my friends chocolate cd but it still gave me the message. Any idea what is wrong here? Thanks in advanced.

You canplay without a cd from 1.15 i think.
--------------------- - patch 1.15.2 --------------------- Feature Changes
- StarCraft and StarCraft: BroodWar no longer require the CD while playing the game. To play without the CD, please follow the following instructions:
Windows Users: - Make sure you have "Hide extensions for known types" unchecked. To do this please use the following steps: - Click Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Windows Explorer - Click on Tools -> Folder options (Windows Vista users may have to press the Alt key to see the tools option at the top of the window) - Click on the View Tab In the list, look for the "Hide extensions for known file types" option, and make sure that it is unchecked. - Click OK to save the changes. - Now you will need to copy some files from the Game CDs
- If you own only StarCraft, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "StarCraft.mpq".
- If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "INSTALL.EXE" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft folder and rename it to "BroodWar.mpq". If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy and rename the install file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.
Mac users: - If you own only StarCraft, copy "StarCraft Archive" from the StarCraft CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder. - If you own StarCraft: Brood War, copy "Brood War Archive" from the StarCraft: Brood War CD to your StarCraft/StarCraft Files/ folder. If you wish to play the StarCraft original missions then please copy the Starcraft Archive file from the original StarCraft CD as well, as listed directly above.
You can also get adigital copy of starcraftif you own a legit cd key from blizzard store. You need to register. (google blizzard store, register and follow instructions).
Good luck.

I'm not sure what's wrong, but if you still have your cdkey, it's a good idea to register at battle.net (register the CDkey) so that you can just straight up download the game onto your computer, no hassles.

CDs will just wear after long enough, and become glitchy. But if your friend's CD gave the same error... I dunno.
I would just recommend using an iso file. Your CD key is all you really need.

I had the same problem. As someone said, just register on battle.net and download it is the easier solution.
