We've been hearing all this glamor over Rock, Metal, and Pop songs.
I think it's time we pay homage that the thing that guides our roadtrips, the 8bit song. This not only includes songs that we've heard on the Game Boy, but also songs on the Nintendo, SNES, GBA, DS, Sega, etc. This is not for all video game music, however-pretty much anything with more than 32bit is out. No Halo Theme, etc, please.
For instance, we all know this one:
and I'm also pretty sure we can memorize this one:
and we've probably had to deal with Supernova a few hundred times with this one:
But how about other ones, that just have an interesting beat? Personally, I find that this Trauma Center song is really... catchy.
or this Phoenix Wright song:
They just have a really... fun beat.
Post other songs that you think are digitally digestable.
I think this should be named the "Video Game Music Thread" since anything past, like, NES has better than 8-bit audio. Now on to some tunes: mp3: Shining Force Battle Theme #3
Just thought I'd post that, I really enjoyed it. They have some other really cool top 10's and a top 20 for SNES games that I loved.
Also, if anyone doesn't know about the angry video game nerd who likes old school games then check him out, but it's most likely impossible they wouldn't have discovered him by now.
The original NES version was posted above but for me the SNES version, Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is powerful and super nostalgic. Maybe because my first console was a SNES but I also think the theme got a pretty nice overhaul and improved the song a lot. + Show Spoiler +
Also, fuck vista for not having something as simple as Windows clipboard built in when it came with Windows XP, I copied that youtube URL and copied over something else and I can't seem to find a way to recover it t.t

Thanks Was fun to watch, although I (obviously) didn't agree with some choices.
That Pokemon music brings back so much memories. I remember that I actually (without the rare candy cheat) raised my Vensaur to Level 99 because I loved the game so much. The other Pokemon series kick ass as well.
Donkey Kong 2 is for the win. I am going to download an emulator and ROM for old times' sake.
Man, this thread brings back awesome memories, I remember when I first cracked open my Pokemon Red Version game, haha, those were the days, where, graphics and shit didn't matter, all you cared about was wasting time, and having fun playing a game.
Oh god those donkey kong themes engaged some epic nostalgia.
Personally I think the best tunes came from Sega Master System II games. e.g. Sagaia Quartet Wonder Boy III - The Dragon's Trap Alex Kidd in Shinobi World Lucky Dime Caper Master of Darkness...
I make music on a Midi program for a hobbie. I got about 50 songs but 3 are up atm. Since its relative to the thread... http://www.myspace.com/midipunk
I love the Pokemon soundtrack, and also the Phoenix Wright soundtracks. It's awesome stuff. Especially these tracks: + Show Spoiler +

And a "netlabel" that releases a lot of electronic music, not all chiptune: http://www.platonistmusic.com/reunion/music5.html#001 They give free mp3 downloads of the songs. Check out the stuff by Platonist. Treasure Hunting is my favorite track by him, but I can't find it on youtube, so just download it.
and holy cow Anamanaguchi is awesome, thanks for posting them
not sure if you know, but this is basically a note for note (partial) cover of a theme in the original transformers animated movie. The song is incredible though
i just overflew the thread quickly, but it seems nobody posted this yet 8bitpeoples there's a lot of freely downloadable 8bit-stuff. i havent even listened to half of it but i'm sure you'll find something you like
More Advance Wars music... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lnSq_Lby5AQ&feature=related Steamrolling the opposing army to this tune - awesome. Try the Dual Strike version for more epicness.
Video game music >>>> real music for me! I could go on for pages and pages listing the music that I have come to love...but I guess ill pick a few that jump out at me right now and are not listed here yet.
I thought pokemon was the classic but god that super mario world. Video games used to be so awesome. And now I want to play shining force again as well =[ I hate u guys! Dont know any good ones so ill just post this lol

You can definetely tell that video game composers took quite a lot of influence from these guys
On that note, you should definitely check out the japanese prog-funk band casiopea. They are my favorite of the old japanese instrumental groups who had to have influenced video game music. Here is a "guide" I made to their music on another forum: http://theshizz.org/forum/index.php?showtopic=29671&st=0&p=798908&#entry798908
also, the band t-square
I know too much about this stuff (I thought the thread was about 8-bit -> 32-but music music, not "bitpop" (lol)), I'll be back sometime to tl:dl the thread
1.14 I like blues and I still think that´s the ballsiest blues based stuff ever. TMNT 2 is the best game ever, music and game wise, SC just has to suck it sry.
LOL wtf, I came across this when looking for rampart songs. So many things wrong with this video. First it sounds like the guy is like getting horny or having an orgasm. Then he starts to play the game (Which is awesome) and says he plays all games on hard mode. Once the game starts he doesn't even have a clue how to place cannons. Then the battle comes and he doesn't shoot.. Changes the game and says it sucks. Fast Forward a little and the guy is actually jacking off to Qbert or something. Wtf?!
