As some of you have come to realize that have played the game it does not boast a very friendly environment for people who are still relatively new nor do the people really embracing the team concept. This has really gotten on my nerves since I prefer to play support but I feel kinda useless with noting to support.
So I started to wonder where I could find a friendly group of people to play with that aren't just playing to pimp up their stats and kill steal every time the opportunity arises.
I was wondering if we should all join a channel together ( We can just call it or something TeamLiquid ) and organize games from there and play the game it was meant to be played.
Anyone interested ?

The dota-community is absolutely horrible. Everyone's a prepubescent elitist. This is why you just join games, play as you wish, and ignore their comments until you're good enough to be of use to the team.

Actually it's not that horrible...
But 1 jerk on your team is enough to turn 1-2 others in your team which are enough to turn the rest into including yourself :p.

Channel WCR on HoN there always has a decent amount of friendly people in the channel and we usually get some inhouse games going. Most will be helpful to you.

God. Damn. Zephyr is a SEXY carry-beast. How-to:
courier+shield+runes.
1-7 lane, last hit as much as possible, do not die, courier in new runes if needed.
7-14 jungle like a mofo, heal with tornadoes before you enter a weak creep camp, remember to double-spawn creeps.
14+ buy mock of brilliance (should be around minute 22), keep farming and join team battles. Get survivability from items as you see fit. Headress if they are caster-heavy, shrunken head if they have bloodhunter (to counter silence), helm of the black legion for melees, behemoth's for all-purpose, the usual stuff.
Tank, outlevel, outfarm, win.

I went 2-3-9 in my first game as "zeus" so I think I did alright. Its tough getting used to that item layout and such when you're so used to DotA.
In my first attempt at joining a game they kicked me because I was either newb (is anyone who plays the beta for HoN a newb? I mean, Im sure most of the people have played DotA and thus know how to play...) or an account remake lol
Overall it was fun though

The 4-5 games I've played, people have been pretty friendly. I'll just say that I'm a noob, and they'll just tell me where to go, and what to watch out for.
Ofc, I have my little brother who's played DOTA for mannny hours, and can just tell me what to do.

Okay, I've changed my mind. The gfx are starting to really annoy me. Too over the top bright lights and glossiness. It's hard to see what's even going on. Some of the effects are just plain silly. Like cyclone? It literally looks like a gigantic tornado sitting in the middle of the screen. And you can't even tell the footprint of it to surround the guy because it's so huge. Lots of issues like that where instead of focusing on gameplay, they focused on making stuff look ridiculous epic.

There are some games that are ok, but there are also many that have these stuck-up players who insult the team or specific players for not being useful and whatnot. They even do it in NOOB ONLY games -_-

Keep in mind clan support in this game is still very bugged, as they just introduced it in the new patch. I was able to invite a couple of people to the TL clan last night, logged out, and when I came back, I couldn't.
I right-clicked on people and the "Invite to clan" option was simply gone! :S So I'm not really sure what I should be doing for invites now...
I'm gonna be going out tonight to drink with my friends, but in maybe 2 hours I'll be online to play a couple of games. Hope to see you all soon. I'm starting to pick my AoS skill up again... which is still pretty crappy, but usually enough to carry my entire pub team through most games, haha...

I've had a great experience with the players so far. Everyone I've played with have been friendly. Huge differance from DotA, I really feel that the voice chat is making people more polite. They don't feel as anonymous - in text anyone can call anyone a cocksucker but only few people actually pronounce the words. I've been doing good though (only played 4 games but I've got some nice stats, 48 kills, 11 deaths) so I guess there hasn't been a reason to hate on me.

Just like how icefrog ripped off pendragon and guinsoo? which in turn ripped off everything when they made it all-stars? give me a break, icefrog gave S2 clearance to use the dota concept and heroes a long time ago. they took over and will evolve the concept just like icefrog did with pendragon and guinsoos work.

Yesterday I played one match, it's very unfriendly to newbies. Had good teammates, but noobs as me. The other team seemed to play better, because they ganked in pairs but I managed to kill 4-5 dudes.
We lost, but I had fun except at then when they vastly overpowered us with levels and items.

I finally got back home some days ago and got invite from friend.
Most pub players didn't buy boots only in beginning and spammed way less than in most of my DotA games, which was pleasantly suprising.
Only problem I have with this is the rare occurance of some weird error with my video card that gives black screen for awhile, and of course I still have trouble finding some items after only a few games.

Does anybody know about a site or something that just lists out the best items for each character? I want to do random till I learn all the characters but I get fucked by not knowing which items are best for a certain character. I've learned a lot just guessing and failing over and over, but it'd be nice to find a place that just tells you what you should get.

Since they're just remake heroes of DotA, you can check dota hero guides for item builds.

Pretty much, a lot of it is learning which heroes correspond to which heroes in DOTA though

some general item suggestions and thoughts base on my own experience, since i feel that I have a pretty good idea on item builds:
first of all, choose your items to compensate your character's weaknesses as well as making use of your strengths, which means:
1. If you're a carry( which usually means a strong lategame/high damage hero) go for DAMAGE items and survivabilty items only early game. your char is not supposed to take loads of damage, but to deal it. For example hack&slash for melee agi heros is usually bad, unless you died a few times early game and can't farm gold properly. When I play a carry I like to either get 2 bracers, a hood or a helm (depending on the opponent's team setup) early on for survival and then go straight damage items. However, I'm a big fan of assassin's shround and shrunken head, since both items give you damage as well as a lot of survivabilty.
2. never ever get riftshard/flayer if your char as built-in crit, don't get runed axe with hammerstorm who has a built-in cleave and so on. If you have built-in crit like madman/scout, get pure damage items, however if your char has a damage modifier like puppet, arachna, crit items are a good idea.
3. if you play a supporter, itemize him as such. Astroblade, guardian ring/ring of the sorcerer are usually good for healers/supporters, also a portal key is usually strong if you're a disabler/stunner like pollywog or glacius. On the other hand, there are some "support" heroes like jereziah or demented shaman that can carry as well, because they can farm money easily. So if your team doesn't really need you to support, but needs to deal more damage, don't hesitate to get damage items with them.
4. for lategame, try to adjust your items based on what your hero/team has the most problems with. If the opponents have a lot of strong melee heroes, get frostfield plate, if they have one overfarmed guy killing your whole team, sheep stick works best. If you're a carry but get focused by all of them, either get more hp or a shrunken head and so on.
As i said, these are just tips that USUALLY are good, but there are always exceptions, since their's an infinite number of situations, just keep in mind to adjust your items based on the game situation and don't desperatly try to farm an item just because it worked well in a previous game.

Playing carry with a really good support team. It's impossible to get in pubs since your team will always make sure you end up dead in half the team fights just for good measure.

Also once you hit 1900+ you will usually play vs teams and/or players who play competitive dota. Of course the psr is stilled flawed and you will see newbs at any rating, but it's still different from Dota, where you can pubstomp all you like

lol no you're thinking of easy mode where who ever farms faster can become imbalanced in 15minutes. 15 minutes in real games things are about to pick up.

The player in team 1 was calling our spot in german and was feeding players from team 2 ...

Sorry if off topic but I got a few questions. I was showing this game to my friend who plays a lot of dota. And he for whatever reason decided in his mind that they probably paid off icefrog to make their game because a lot of the units and items are the same.
I told him, that if anything Blizzard would be paid since they own all rights to maps within their games, But most likely they recruited him for help in balance and design which is not the same as paying someone for taking their original idea. (because iirc blizzard hired on icefrog for map creation and dota remakes in sc2).
Further trying to argue my point he basically said I was crazy for thinking that he could make a map called his name and then blizzard would own it.
As I understand it, they kept a lot of the same shit but changed all the names so they avoid all copyright infringement.
So if I made a game that was totally different and called it dota that would be an infringement and likewise, if I made a game that played the same/similar with a different name I don't infringe anything (from a law perspective anyways).
PS- Afaik, icefrog wasn't paid anything for original dota (maybe just donations and ads on his site or whatever). And blizzard hired him freelance for sc2. So it's not like he has made any money directly from dota anyways, so why would they (HoN) need to pay him off?

I don't think they paid him off. My understanding is that they asked him if he was OK with it, and he said yes. Your friend is wrong anyway, he won't 'own' his maps he makes.

They just asked for his permission. Icefrog has nothing directly to do with the development of HoN other then changes he makes in DoTA being implemented in HoN.
S2 doesn't plan to follow DoTA exactly in the future though.

My PSR is trash and not like kidding trash either, it's under 1100 so go figure. But I am nowhere near as bad as my PSR makes it look (but I'm nowhere near pro either) I'm sure that if we use voicecomm I will do fine. I love playing support classes, Jereziah is my fav so far.
P.S. Does anyone know how to fix the issue with Vista 64 and the mic sound being extremely low even at full volume? It works fine without sound drivers but after installing the audio drivers the mic is pretty much useless.

It had too big of a range prior to like .42, then they fixed to almost having to be perfectly on top of it...which is just as bad. Pudges has like a 2 unit size leeway.

The HoN items it is telling you to get are post haste, puzzlebox, ring of sorcery, stormspirit, and for one build frostfield plate for the other astrolabe.

Getting enhanced marchers, shaman's headdress, this helm of something (randomly blocking 40 damage), behemoth heart, abyssal skull (mana, but can substitute with this new linken which would be awesome) and shrunken head. I did it the last time I played him (the game was rather long) and boy what fun I had I did 0 damage but the sole fact that the enemy team needed more than 5 minutes of 5 vs 1 battle to bring me down was pretty cool and allowed my team to safely push some lanes. I pushed one lane and they needed to stop me or I would go straight to the throne if unchecked and to stop me they needed 5 people so it took a lot of pressure off of my team.

So I figured out that Arachna was basically Drow Ranger (who is pretty much the only character I was half decent with in dota) and now I'm doing a lot better. And slither (hydra) plays a lot like Drow as well. So now I've got 2 picks besides Accursed.
Is Clinkz in yet?
And Cloak of whatever it is (Lothar's Edge) is fucking awesome especially if you have something-marchers (phase boots), constant speeeeeeeeeeeeeeed.

Arachna is viper and slither is venomancer.

venomancer = hydra duh
and Viper is less like Arachna than Drow is. Only difference between Arach and Drow is the magic dispell/silence and the ult spider/+agi. The other 2 main abilities an attack that slows (with no bonus damage) ice/web and trueshot aura.

no for christ's sakes what makes viper, viper, is his orb attack, which is exactly the same as arachna's. drow's frost arrows dont come close. you play arachna like you would a viper, except that arachna does more dmg and can carry as well
no enhanced marchers (phase boots) dont go through behemoth's fissure wtf

I was thinking about making another one showing how sometimes the pathing causes you to run backwards or something.
Or how devourer's arm will grab you on the way back even though you are dodging it and running wide and/or zig zagging.

how is that confusing at all? scout is right there in the trees when the bad pathing is telling you to walk right into his disarm and then he ults you as you run.
