A dota remake without Icefrog? This wont be as succesful, and I had hoped for strategy games to take over

Nevermind! looks like alienware has thousands of beta keys left, you just have to go to their site and sign up and get a free key

http://www.alienwarearena.com/event/hon-beta-giveaway/

about 9700 still remaining at the time I signed up.

My friend challenged me to play him 1;1 (I get 3 months to practice, and he plays the game cold). He's played in quite a few DotA leagues, so he's pretty good. Who should I play, and how much should I bet?

It probably won't be as successful, but for S2 it will certainly be there biggest game ever. Savage 1 and Savage 2 totally bombed despite being great games. I am pretty sure that HoN will sell enough to recoup there debt.

I'd suggest as Agillity Rikki could be an option, as strength Balanar/Lycanthrope are good for solo and Intelligence Necrolyte's good as well (I don't know your playstyle but those 3 allways do "fine" on their own).

Never agree to 1 v 1 in HON or Dota. It doesn't show how skilled the player is, it just shows that you know how to pick the most overpowered 1v1 hero in the game and then keep him in base for the entire duration of the game.
Whoever thinks 1v1 proves something are total scrubs or idiots.

That said, I guess you could play arachna or puppet master, the new krobelus would do fine as well.

what if they pick the same hero? Then that makes it all skill practically.

Since, we are talking about dota-type games, what's everyone's opinion on Demigod?
Just wondering.

There's so much more to skill than simply lasthitting and denying in a 1v1. Although it's a significant part of "skill", map awareness, game sense and participation in team fights are what makes the players, and there's 0 of those in a 1v1.

It's like trying to determine who's better at starcraft by playing micro tourny.

Yeah I bought this game online while I was bored last holidays and I cannot say I am very impressed. The amount of heroes is far too low and back when I was playing the match making system and games were laggy as hell... really really bad... but supposedly they have fixed that since.

Icefrog was the creator of what's now known as DotA--that is to say, DotA: Allstars. I assume you're talking about Eul, who created RoC's original DotA. Nearly every part of the game has been changed since then. A few heroes remain (e.g. Leshrac) but many do not, and the amount of new heroes far eclipses both of the previous numbers. The map is roughly the same, but has gone through significant changes. The list of differences goes on. Icefrog is as much a creator of DotA:A as Eul was a creator of DotA; if you don't give Icefrog credit, then don't give Eul credit, since the influence of previous AoS games before DotA is about as clearly present as the influence of DotA in DotA:A.

I never said that whoever wins at 1;1 is more skilled. Of course it's going to be imbalanced depending on what hero you get.

Regardless, if he's willing to put money on a 1;1 and let me pick my hero, then I don't see why I shouldn't pick the most imba hero to play against him. Hence, my question stands.

Nighthound is the HoN rikki.
I hate the post below mine because it feels War3-ish.

why would you pick riki in a 1v1? No lane control = raped.

I'd go for Enchantress though
