Yao, Butler, Amare, Boozer, Tayshaun and to a lesser extent Nene and Salmons (who both had solid years this past season) Big names doesn't always equal big talent though. Besides Yao, Amare, and Butler the other top 10 picks are pretty disgusting in terms of how long it took them to mature. Dunleavy and Nene just got "it" in the last 2 years. Gooden has been solid but never spectacular. Boozer/Tayshaun isn't enough to save how bad this draft was imo because some of the other top picks just weren't all that great.

I think D Howard's offensive game is alittle awkward looking i know he trains with ewing. hakeem just has the better moves for an athletic guy like howard. he's not the lumbering kind of center, and playing like ewing will limit his game. although you can give ewing credit for howard's defensive improvement.

The Grizz are set at the 2 and 3 with Gay and Mayo and there isn't a worthwhile candidate here at the 4 so if comes down to a center or a point. The invested heavily to acquire both Gasol (pau) and Conley (#4 pick) and both are young enough that it would hurt to give up on them already. If it were up to me, I'd have to go with a point here cuz I think that Gasol has more potential than Conley. Since the Grizz have such a promising 2 in Mayo, I would eliminate a combo guard like Evans from the mix so it would come down to Rubio/Curry. I love Curry and I think he'll be a tremendous offensive force in the NBA but if I were Grizz GM, I'd have to go with the playmaking abilities of Rubio to complement Gay and Mayo.

You do realize Thabeet only started playing basketball in college right? Work in progress definitely, but its not like super high risk considering his development in college.

I'm talking about his junior year, Thabeet did not look like he knew how to play basketball. EDIT: As a side note, I look forward to all the posters he's going to be in.

Unless teams are going to make him a pure PG, I'm not sure how that happens. He's on the low end of quickness so I'm not sure how he can put the ball on the floor in the NBA. Rip can't, but Rip is 6'7" and Curry is 6'3". He's one of those players with an illustrious college career, but not the type of game/body that works in the pros.

One thing you must also factor in: OJ Mayo RUINED Rudy Gay's sophmore year. Remember last year how great he was? OJ Mayo comes into the mix and starts ball hogging and playing like shit defensively. Gay did also, but Mayo definitely hurt his superstar growth. Alas, it will have to be Rubio for the playmaking or hopefully - they get another PF to complement Marc Gasol on the boards. @Testie: Nene is very good, he just took long to get to this level. Admittedly he did have a set back though.

Admittedly he did have a set back though. I agree with this last post on everything except the fact that they have to go with a point guard (Rubio most likely). I read somewhere in the past that the Memphis management really likes Mayo as the POINT of the future. Honestly, this makes no sense since it should be Conley at the 1, Mayo at the 2 but this is what I recall reading. Conley was given the keys to the offense after the coaching switch and Hollins really likes him (and I think he's poised for a breakout year). I think the best move for them right now is to go for a back up PG. Gasol, Mayo, and Gay are THE future of this team. I would be shocked if they don't pick up a back up PG because Gay and Mayo played a shitton of minutes every game last year.

Yes... while he is unpolished on offense (read: non existent skills on offense and should NEVER shoot the ball), seven foot three centers do not come around often. He can bulk up over the next couple of years and be a Sam Dalembert type player. I don't want to compare him to Dikembe because that would be giving him way too much credit, but I can see him being a defensive force.
