I'll quote this in 1 year when I'm right =D You only say that because of your Kobe poster. How can this trade actually make them worse? They gave up two god awful players for Shaq, who has an expiring contract next year. This is like a win in every possible way for Cleveland. Shaq doesn't even need to start for them, and he certainly doesn't need to play most of the regular season. He can be a sixth man and put up 15 a night at 60% shooting. Sure as hell beats Mo Williams' stellar playoff performance of 10 at 30%. I don't know if they'll make it back to the finals but if they do the Kobe vs. Lebron matchup just got a whole lot more epic.

This also makes me happy because it will be harder for them to put more pieces around Lebron in 2010, so bring him to the knicks!

They should have gotten Shaq at the All Star break last season when they had the chance and would have had a real force in the middle to help them get to the title. Shaquille O'Neal's current contract does not expire until the end of the 2009-10 NBA season. He's scheduled to make $20M per year. They get Shaq for one year and they get to wipe $20 million off the books next year. No Lebron for NY.

According to the same source that disclosed Terry Porter was about to be fired as Suns coach, the Rockets are leaning toward swapping Tracy McGrady's expiring $22M contract, Carl Landry and Aaron Brooks for Leandro Barbosa and Stoudemire, who owns an escape clause after next season and is demanding an extension this summer to waive it. http://www.nypost.com/seven/06252009/sports/moresports/wolves_on_path_of_kahn_176015.htm?page=2

At first the idea of swapping TMac, Landry and Brooks for Barbosa and Amare seems like a great deal, but thinking about how the latter two would fit in Houston makes it less of a sure thing. Barbosa's production suffered mightily when the Suns went to a slower offense ran through a big center, and that's basically what Houston is going to be running unless they do the unthinkable and trade Yao away. You might be able to argue that Yao and Amare's ability to score from the perimeter would allow them to take turns attacking the paint, but the Rockets lack a PG who can set up Amare on offense the way they need to in order to maximize his talents. Amare being on a team that doesn't get many fast-break opportunities and runs a lot of half-court offense would seem to be wasting his talents. The last factor, which may be the biggest, is that neither player seems to fit the style and character of the Rockets. They're not exactly hard-nosed, defensive-minded players. In fact, they're both pretty spacey and Amare's focus on defense has always been questionable. Neither player has been asked to play much defense in their careers, so it'd be a pretty dramatic change to suddenly jump into the Rockets' system. Then again, maybe the Rockets think they're strong enough defensively to make up for Barbosa and Amare's defensive deficiencies, and figure the offensive contributions will make up for it.

Maybe it's just the logical side of me but living in NY >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> living in cleveland. And yes, I dont care that he was born there. Cleveland is dirty as hell. Unless the Knicks make some huge changes to their roster, there's no way Lebron could see himself as having a better chance at winning a championship there rather than CLE or a host of other teams. D'Antoni's minimal-defense, run-n-gun system has been questioned heavily as a strategy that can win a championship while he was in PHX and had the perfect roster to run it. Now, they expect him to be successful in NY trying the same strategy with a much weaker cast of players with no legitimate star? The Knicks, outside of Lee and mayyyybe Chandler, don't have any players you could see as being part of a championship as things stand now. Lebron would basically be relying entirely upon his faith that the Knicks would continue to completely overhaul the team and get at least one other superstar to join him (i.e. Bosh, Wade). I think he's already well aware of the fact that he can't win a championship by himself with a bunch of average players around him. If Lebron is serious about wanting to go where he is the most likely to win a championship, then there's no way the Knicks, as presently constructed, should even be on the map as far as he's concerned. As much as people talk about NY being the "mecca" of basketball in the US, the Knicks have not been a very successful franchise, particularly in terms of winning titles. The only attraction NY would have, would be the media exposure, and Lebron going there would answer a lot of questions about what his real goal is.

Lots of teams have money to spend. The Cavs will keep him and add another serious piece.
