You’d think he’d have a bit of respect for them, right? Oh no, Kotick’s goal over the past 10 years has been – you couldn’t make this up – “to take all the fun out of making video games.” How? By instilling a culture of “scepticism, pessimism, and fear” amongst the company’s staff based around the economic depression and an incentive program that rewards “profit and nothing else”. They may not have an explicit hand in game development, but I'm extremely skeptical that a policy like that doesn't create some implicit pressure on what comes out of their developers. ...you mean games that make a profit? How is that a bad thing? Games that are better make a bigger profit.

Longevity and good faith are going to be secondary to immediate profits because they're less readily quantifiable (even though in real terms, they'll likely produce a better outcome for both the consumer and the producer).

If DLC is not worth the cost, people are welcome not to buy it. Why would you expect developers to make complex multiplayer maps for free?

I don't expect them to make complex multiplayer maps at all beyond a few at release. The only reason I could see them doing so is because they're trying to drive short-term profit. They could just as well release their editor and let ready and willing modders do it, and thus let them move onto the next thing, instead of getting bogged down in something their resources are probably not best suited for. The only reason to do it is because it raises short-term profits, while surely not being an efficient use of resources in the long-term.

Makes sense to me... while they're working on the engine/elements for the next game, they get their idle mappers to keep working on the previous game. Sounds like good allocation of resources.

Yeah, MW2 is more of a console game since they axed PC gamers horribly. I, personally, will not buy the game since it's expensive and I don't have a job right now. Although I still have money in my bank account, I can use the $60 towards something else.

i dont like the constant grunts and groans upon death, and the fact that streak rewards are basically ac10/missile/heli view mini games. too much focus is being taken out of the first person, solider with a gun view.
also i hate the idea of turrets.

well, reviews haven't materialized so the embargo probably lifts 3 hours from now

I just got back from a midnight release of modernwarfare 2 at a lanhouse. The game has the exact same feel to cod4, with many new weapons and improved classbuilding. time can only tell how balanced and fun the multiplayer is, but it looks like tons of fun.
I managed to win one of the pc tournaments and went home with a salmosa that I'm trying to sell on ebay now.

Yeah, that's the position I'm in too. I own a lot of ATVI stock so I hope this sells millions, but they lost my $60 by crippling the PC version from what we've come to expect from FPS games. Playing this on a console would be like playing Starcraft on the N64. CoD4 was a solid shooter, but they took the things I hated about it (kill streak abilities, perks, ranks, etc.) and expanded them greatly. Bleh.
So who's excited about Battlefield Bad Company 2?

Sorry i might be wrong, but you can just join a server without those "mini games" enabled right?

i just got (my own) XBL for this game =x. We got it before the midnight release ^_^. Can't wait to go home to play more after work.

Been hooked on it, nearing 1000 kills for XBL. Bling is definitely my favorite, silence + scope is WIN.
