Any input would be much appreciated. First, PUBLIC GAMES != COMPETITIVE. IF YOU PLAY PUBLIC YOU'RE FAR FROM COMPETITIVE SKILL LEVEL. lol. That's a fact. Competitive TF2 is easily 10x harder than a public match of TF2. To be considered for a decent competitive team you need to pick what class you wish to play. Demoman Soldier Scout Medic These are the base classes of the team. 1 Medic, 2 Soldiers, 2 Scouts, 1 Demoman. You better learn first everything about competitive TF2. Learn what all the TF2 lingo is for starters. The other thing they look for is your knowledge of how to play the class you wish to sign up as. Just going there and saying "Yeah I'm good at this class" doesn't cut it. A base of 500 hours of gameplay time in that class is highly recommended before trying to join a solid team. Most teams won't even grab you unless you have 500 hours, the ones that do usually aren't very good and are just desperate. GET A MIC. No mic no team, easy as that. Medic is a very hard job, highly recommended you don't do that unless you REALLY think you're good. Demoman is VERY important class so if you lack in Demoman skills then you won't last long on a team. Scout and Soldier are easiest to get into a team with due to the team needing 2 of them. There are 2 type of Soldiers. Pocket and Roaming. Roaming plays offensively much like the scout, utilizing the medic heals to keep up constant rocket jumps to travel the length of the map, more difficult of the two. Pocket Soldier STAYS WITH THE MEDIC. You have to defend the medic at all cost, you don't you won't have a place on the team ![]() NEVER apply to a team as a Spy, Pyro, Heavy, Sniper, Engineer. These are very strategy dependant and are not part of the base team setup. As far as I could tell from my experience, Demoman and Medic are in high demand because they are the most difficult. Every team is ALWAYS looking for a very solid Medic and Demoman. If anyone cares, I was a part of team Crack Clan. Just took up way to much time, had to focus on college more ![]() I joined your little community though :D. Always looking for solid people to play with... I'm Medic ![]()

That's not to say maining sniper is bad, but you really do need to learn scout. Not even the best sniper in the world (JH, pretty much) could play sniper constantly and had to swap over to scout to be more consistently useful. Guy makes some sick shots though.

of course if you want to play most games you'll have to learn scout, though sniper aim doesn't always translate to a good scout. and hopefully, when heavy gets rebalanced, he'll be a viable #5 class

From what I've seen it is quite easy to become a decent "Sniper" by simply playing the class a fair bit regardless of format and having a clue. Getting good at the staple combat classes is another matter entirely. I have really only picked up sniping in the last month or so but that's what I am noticing. It gives me something else to do at least, since pickups are pretty bad in australia and precious few use the DM servers - only about two or three who are worth playing. Around here playing with your team is pretty much the only way to get better at soldier, which is a bit painful for someone like me who wants to put more time into getting better.

Pwr vs diggy, as I forgot to advertise that game here, here's the STV demo for badlands http://resupply.eu/index.php?site=files&file=32 . We had to restard the server during gullywash so there's no STV demo (just as well, we got destroyed basically). Oh and free booze is awesome. edit: I'll comment on the sniper discussion later when I have time, having been in the same clan with some of the best snipers in the world (Jh, wltrs), I can say that no sniper is not really worth it. It's for stalling and trying to get an advantage during a lockdown, nothing more.
