I give people shit for stupid lossmails (like when fb loses his cloaky t2 industrial to a single t1 rifter) but I try not to tell them what they can do in their own time. The only time I claim the right to control your fittings/ships is as FC and my view is that if you don't want to bring the shit I want then you can go FC your own fleet. It helps that I'm FC a lot of the time so people are pretty conditioned to just do what I say, even when I'm not really involved, but they can just tell me to fuck off if they want.
The director powers only really come in regarding recruitment and when, like earlier today, a corp member really isn't working out (over 2 months in corp, still doesn't know how to join fleet or view local) and needs removal.

I think almost all of the delay is server side, eve is not very hardware intensive for the client, although maybe when you jump into some gigantic gatecamp, there might be some lag on your end.

You should know by now who is who and what they tend to bring, and you should be able to have eyes and scouts to see local counts and d-scans off gates before you engage. The fact that you don't want to find out what you're up against doesn't mean you can't, or that it isn't easy, or that it won't save you reams of stupid, avoidable lossmails. You seem perfectly content with your current quality of engagement, and to be frank I'm fine with it too. The worse you do, the better everyone else, myself included, looks in comparison. That's what I figured. I don't really think loading the client faster will be worth the space investment. Maybe when the price on Sata2 SSDs drops again I can get one of those for all my games, but since I conned the wife into a smallish Sata3 one, I think I'll be picky for now what goes onto it.
I really shouldn't be allowed to get bored. By the way, i7 930 will hit 3.1ghz without overvolting. I'm paranoid about overvolting the thing, so I haven't messed with the clock till today.
Wednesday will be my 3rd clean install of an OS in a week's time...
