I dunno if the face is supposed to indicate sarcasm or anything, but I agree with this post. I'd expect Diablo 3 to be worth my cash regardless of what critics are saying. If I'm disappointed, then I guess that's tough shit on me for being a fan boy.
Blizzard will announce the beta in the May 5th Conference call, without a doubt. If they don't for some odd reason, I'm quiting Blizzard games. I've quit SC2 for long time now.
Btw, check out www.diablofans.com if you are not up to date with diablo news. Give it a chance, these guys work hard, and probably will create the second "Beta-booming" that teamliquid was fortunate to have received from us during the beta stages of SC2.
Makes sense to me. That kind of gameplay would translate very well to consoles since its just running around in isometric view, pointing in a direction and throwing various spells and abilities around the place. Out of all of the Blizzard titles is the one that makes the most sense to have a console port. The hardest part to implement (short of possibly redesigning a chunk of the underlying engine) would be the item interface with respect to the console controller - how do you pick up items? How do you organize them? How do you quickly and easily equip/compare them? Easy to do with the mouse. Not so easy with a controller.
Whatever they do with it, its still going to be awesome. My experience playing the single player and arena matches at Blizzcon last year is simply incomparable to anything else on the market today. They took the part I hated most about WoW's PvP (arena) and made it a blast.
some gameplay can be translated to console
other gameplay can not
for instance, I have no idea how Blizzard is going to implement teleporting on a console.
it'll be quickly apparent if Blizzard makes some gameplay changes for the sake of making the game more palatable for the controller
Diablo 3 should just stay for PC only.... So much trouble transitioning into Xbox360. According to the timelline Blizzard works, this might take over 5 years.

They stated, PC version is their main priority. It will NOT slow down PC version development process. Chill, bro
Is anyone else excited for Diablo 3 just as they were with when SC2 was on the horizon? I feel like hype for Diablo 3 is much bigger than SC2 this time. And Beta is not even out yet. Although I enjoyed playing starcraft broodwar very much, I find myself struggling to like Starcraft 2. I'll prob switch to Diablo 3 once its released, anyone else going to play?

That sounds like a promise, and Blizzard don't make promises. I have no doubt it'll delay the release. After all, they've only got so many resources available and there's always some unexpected hiccup that ruins the party when it comes to software development. Question is if the delay is even noticeable or not. They haven't even announced a specific release date, yet.

That's assuming Teleport is even intended to function like the Diablo 2 version. They may intentionally change it to no longer pass through walls, which would make a console version much easier to implement since you could just point in a direction, whack teleport, and it would either go max distance or collide with the first wall it hits. Of course, if that does end up being the design process, I fully expect accusations of dumbing the game down for consoles. Its inevitable, because the hardcore fans will be actively looking for things to complain about. Its what they do.
Although, having said that the design as of Blizzcon 2010 was that she could teleport through walls (at about 4:00):
Though, I'm pretty sure it has a fairly short max range (looking at various points in that movie, the one on the Diablo 3 website, and my own recollection of using it at Blizzcon), so they could just assume every attempt to Teleport on console wants to go max range - which isn't a long stretch of the imagination, seeing as how its an escape/fast travel spell and all.
The gameplay won't be exactly the same, sure. For instance, the Guardian is a spell that might not work so great on consoles, since its a turret and you'll often want to place it on the edge of a corner. The Barbarian leaping OVER a pack of mobs, rather than into the middle of them. Things like that. But, in the end, even if the gameplay is different, doesn't mean they can't make it good.
I wasn't so hyped about this game for a while.. but something clicked inside me when I heard about the May conference call. I'm suddenly anxious to play this game. A couple weeks ago I started playing D2 again and was surprised at how addicting it still was. Played 4 hours non stop. I fear the same thing will happen with D3.
What's worse is Diablo is the type of game where you can relax with after a strenuous session on SC2. So the combo can potentially be disasterous for my productivity; Sc2 for a couple hours, rest with Diablo3 for another couple hours, then back to Sc2. Cycle and repeat.
I haven't been keeping up with their releases that much, but I'm just wondering, have they mentioned that they're going to implement fcr, fhr, ias, faster r/w, and things like that? From all of the demo videos, that's my biggest concern. Teleport looks slow as fuck, as does the game as a whole. High level D2 was all about hitting that next breakpoint for fhr or fcr (200 fcr fire sorc ftw), and I'm worried they're going to take that out.
I spent a lot more time playing D1 than LoD. as long as you had legit people to play with, it was such an awesome game... unlike D2 though, the challenge wasn't in treasure hunting, but in doing crazy shit like killing hell diablo at the min level or playing a mage without using gear at all
you could get all the gear on normal difficulty, so that wasn't hard. not only that, but the best items were in the shops for the most part.
I watched the "class trailer" for Demon Hunters and it honestly had some of the worst acting I've ever seen from a video game. Just...lame, lame, lame.
I don't think the console version is a good idea, if I remember the mechanics correctly. There were a few diablo esque clones (including one..Baldurs gate type knockoff?) that were well rated but the experience, at least for me, was made immeasurably shallow in the translation. Not a fan.
But hey, if it doesn't shave time or quality off the PC version, whatever floats their boat
