Playing DS, team is decent...not amazing, but solid, and we stayed fairly even through laning phase into midgame. A dev + mq(i think) start bitching at me early, whining about no wards, that I'm being worthless etc, all because I missed a lightning fast gank on the sw i was babying. Mid pyro initiated on him from cover with her ulti, then wave, and finally he was last hit by accursed's Q(LOL). All in a matter of one second. Apparently, I should have both healed him and cloaked him instantly. Remember, this is 1550 MMR we're talking here. Well, laning phase transitions into team fights, and we have a couple of bad team fights. After the first, in which I admittedly misclicked my cloak onto the wrong hero in the middle of a super messy fight, the raging really started. Apparently, I'm the only reason anyone died. Ever. Also, not only am I worthless, but I'm not even warding(1 ward up, one just expired, I have 0 money). Dev even started a vote-kick. Second team fight happens at out second mid tower. Another big messy fight, spells everywhere, literally 10 seconds long. I'm the only one to survive on my team, I have a sliver of health, and barely more than a sliver of mana as I scamper back to base, chalice on cooldown even. All caps from Dev, "DS DID YOU CAST EVEN ONE SPELL THE ENTIRE FIGHT!?!!?" Long story short, I farmed a bit while they were respawning, bought out every ward for the rest of the game, and placed them to protect sw while he farms like mad for 10 solid minutes while the rest of us run in circles, and then we rofl cruise for the comeback victory. TLDR:Support is really fun, you should try it some time. | ||

TLDR:Support is really fun, you should try it some time. I'd strong recommend just typing /ignore add [player name] in situations like that. Usually people like that won't give any real constructive advice/commentary, and it helps a lot to be able to focus on your game and making good decisions instead of getting emotionally involved in some asinine keyboard war. | ||

I gank often as well as keeping my carry protected. 80% of my kills early/mid game don't involve the carry in them because he is safely farming. Most of our kills are split between the gankers/supports. I also play smart and position myself in a lot of fights to not die needlessly or be picked off by the opposing teams nukers. I have zero problem finishing games with positive KDR. | ||

The common mentality that supports must have negative KDR is due to poor play and false justification. The foremost reason for a negative KDR is that bad support players often wrack up deaths unnecessarily. They'll ward poorly by going to dangerous positions on their own rather than with team support (or just at the right time). They'll also "sacrifice themselves for the carry" when they actually didn't need to die. They'll have bad positioning and get picked off, either in a team fight or while moving around the map (as they're squishy). Alventenie is good and knows what he's talking about. That's evidence that there is a way to play support without killing stealing and yet have a positive KDR. What you should think is, "This good support player has a positive KDR so there must be something else to playing support properly that I'm missing." Edit: Oh, he posted while I took a long time to type. Alv gives some good examples. | ||
