Most likely bugs will make DF2014 unplayable for at least another year, before finally there is any point in switching over... And mods will take even longer to adapt... so yeah.... Don't see myself playing DF2014 anytime soon

and @qbek: what dou you have to rebind? I play on a laptop, and never ever need a numpad...

So you use shift to navigate with +/- ? I do half the things in DF with numpad (+/-, enter, 8 2 4 6 directions)

Then again i often use numpad enter as normal enter if my left hand is far to the left of the keyboard and i have right hand on mouse.

I actually have an embarrassing question: if I have a bridge which goes upright, how do I tell it's upright?? Is it not possible to tell with the standard ASCII tiles? (I have bridges to wall my fort, and the only way I can tell if they're up or not is by checking depot access.... -_-)

If the bridge is only 1 tile wide in the dimension it is supposed to raise in, it looks identical raised and lowered. If you always make the bridge at least 2 or more tiles large in that dimension, it will appear different raised and lowered.

So if it raises to the north, it can be any number of tiles left-to-right, but should be at least 2 tiles up-and-down.

crap, I guess that would work (maybe I should rebuild my drawbridges); thanks!

DF wiki says to try building a building on it; if it says "blocked," it's up, and if it says "building present," it's lowered. Seemed to work so maybe I'll just stay lazy q_q

I have a question about animal training: I caught some Giant Peach-Faced Lovebirds, trained them until -Trained- while they were in cages, and then put them on chains to let them breed. However, one has reverted completely to wild, and now I can't see it on the z -> Animals menu; how can I re-train it? (Also, do previously trained animals become trapavoid? The wiki claims so)

Animals that go completely wild can't be trained unless they are in a cage. Since they were previously trained they are now trap immune (like all friendlies). Unfortunately your only real option is to just kill it.

Keeping animals trained now is very difficult. I advise turning on animal training for all your dwarfs so one will always be on hand to train. There are some bugs, I've had one similar to the bee hive collection bug where a dwarf will stand still until they die because of some messed up animal training order.

If you're going to be training animals for breeding, keep a close eye on their training level and the job manager for if a dwarf has picked up the job, a failure results in a worthless animal.

Ah, that sucks

luckily their children became domesticated, so I guess I can kill them :/

edit: lolol so a Titan showed up on my map; I have an inner drawbridge, an outer drawbridge, and trade depot in between. Elven traders were in the trade depot when I put up both drawbridges.

... The elves went insane. I opened up the outer drawbridge in hopes they'd manage to leave, but to no avail. Then I tried to close the drawbridge, but as usual dwarves are idiots, so the titan got in and killed the elves.

Now a human caravan is around... !!fun!!

edit 2: now a goblin invasion force is here YESSSSS

edit 3: wow these humans are imba

first killed titan, then killed (with help of my traps) all the goblins wtf

now I can trade ^_^

I've been organizing cock fights with my sizable chicken stock. a 2x1 pen/pasture surrounded by glass blocks in the middle of the dining/statue garden/ meeting area. the roosters are brought in and they fight to the death eventually. the surviving rooster gets to go back to the hens and populate the next generation.

hens are really op with the meat and eggs they produce while not needing actual pasture.

Any group of animals will start fighting each other in a pasture if it's small enough since they need their personal space or something.
Humans are greedy, therefore they are human.

Most of the time it doesnt matter. They dont seem to fight seriously.

Only big, hooved animals really do enough damage to hurt or kill each other.

Pigs too. They take longer to set up and get a sizable population, but they make more meat, bones, and hooves. Also they can be milked.

Pigs, poultry, carnivores, apes, etc. all lack the grazer tag, which is why they are good. All you have to do is stick them in a room or pasture underground

Elves are bugged currently to never go to war with you.

It's an easy fix, one line in a RAW somewhere, but you have to do it yourself.

Does the game have the function to prioritize jobs per dwarf? That seems like one key function I was amazed that didn't seem to be in the game when I saw it.
ex. mining 1, hauling 2 = don't ever haul unless you have no mining work to do.

Is diagonal waterflow stopping upwards pressure a bug, or somehow intentional? I thought it was dumb; if it's intentional, why?

I feel weird about things like Quantum StockPiles and Atom Smashing too.

I know it's a single player game so people can just choose to not use them, but I don't like having something set in stone that you either can or can't do.

by default, there is some priority built in, but you can't tweak it, and its often really dumb. Give Food/Water is weighted really low, leading to hospitalized dwarves dying of thirst way too often. The dfhack plugin has some tools to allow you to tweak priorities.

Diagonal waterflow stopping pressure is indeed a bug.

I Always thought of Quantum Stockpiles as being like stacking things. It's kinda dumb that 5 bones take up as much space as a statue.

I agree about Atom Smashing when it comes to crushing enemies, but I think its fine for waste disposal. Until they add an easier way to start and control fires, there's no good way to avoid getting buried in trash other than Atom Smashing.
