I was on the verge of beating him with Rufus, with about 90% of my health left, jumping a lot to avoid getting hit by back throw -> ultra. First, I get hit by it anyway. Then I get hit one more time and eat a combo. And that's game: 90% of my health gone from 2 hits. I just Zangief lariat'ed him to death. Pretty much how I unlocked everyone. Assuming you're talking single player...

wow i hate giefs (only when i play them with my rog)
rog/gief is so frustrating... im literally incapable of beating giefs.... lariets so juicy
edit: no offense to the gief players lol

Gief and Rog are incredibly frustrating in SF4. Some part of me is beginning to really question all the design choices of this game at times!

You mean you never questioned the design choices? Wow you're optimistic haha.

Personally, as much as I like to see new people in the fighting game community, I hate the thought that some people who would really love fighting games might never get into them after trying a single game (like SF4) and not liking it.
E.g. I know that Jesung (infinity21) hates SF3:3s and probably won't like SF4, either. But he enjoys Arcana Heart. I can only wonder how many people will think "fighting games suck" after trying SF4, or Brawl, or some other popular fighter that -- like any game -- isn't representative of the genre as a whole.
Of course, there are also people who love SF4 and this style of fighter, which (from my point of view) is like a battle of attrition in many matchups, where you have to either work towards or maintain a superior position to your enemy. E.g. Zangief works towards getting close to his opponent, while they try to maintain a distance and keep from getting backed into the corner.
I, on the other hand, prefer fighters where I generally have the ability to attack my opponent at almost any time, without having to "earn" the ability to attack by getting them into the right position first (e.g. by getting close to them or by cornering them). I don't necessarily hate playing against keep-away characters: it just depends on how difficult and how fun it is to get in on them. In SF4, I don't really enjoy it, to be honest.
If you guys want to be competitive in SF4, then prepare to find yourselves in a lot of matchups where either you need to keep your opponent away, or you have to struggle to get at them.
If that doesn't sound like your cup of tea, then there are many other fighting games that make it much easier to attack your opponent, even at high levels. E.g. BlazBlue, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Arcana Heart, Guilty Gear, and Marvel vs Capcom 2, to name examples that I'm familiar with. Even SF3:3s has much more offense in it imo compared to SF4 and SF2:ST. It's worth noting that all of these games (except 3s) allow you to dash in the air and block in the air, and have quick ground dashes, unlike SF4 and SF2:ST. 3s allows you to parry in the air, and it allows you to parry fireballs, making them useless for keep-away. These are some of the reasons why these games allow you to attack much more easily compared to SF4 and SF2:ST.

Playing viper feels like you're shaving your balls with a naked razor. One slip and you're on the floor screaming.
In other news; Is there any reliable way to FADC forward without doing a second dash which totally ruins the point of doing the DC in the first place? I'm playing on a pad and it just double dashes even if i put out a motion like 6 6 6 2 3 6 on the third 6. Is it just pure muscle memory for timing, and hold in the 6 position while i'm in the dash animation?
|
I know a little trick that a guy off SRK talked about (gilley). He said that a 3 to 6 input works for FADC. Like..... Say you're doing Ryu's FADC Ultra. You would do 623 right? well when you focus cancel, just hold on 3, focus, and tap 6 once and ur good to go. He said it also works with Guile flashkick FADC, which would be like 1 to 9 FA tap 6. I tried it and it worked, although I can do it just fine normally.
