my thumb has grown callus from all the rog charging
after playing gief for a little i realize just how sick he is.... def. top tier imo plus lots of people on SRK said having an alt char is a good idea in 4.... might sleep on that idea
hells yeah gief is sick. Meaty 360 and cr.lp cr.lp cr.lp lk ex pimp slap are the sickest things in the game.
Right now I'm working on an alt character, my Dict and rog are pretty good so I might go for that
we gotta play each other some time man.... i usually msg u but u afk
boo, sorry about that man. The live competition around here is pretty active so we're usually playing not online. I don't think my router is still happy with SF4 though, I have trouble joining most games online so I usually have to host.
Trial mode is pretty sweet though, it really helped me time my links. So far I've done all the shotos, bison, gief, rog, and right now I'm working on viper. You guys try out Gen's trials yet? They're awesome but crazy hard, I guess it answered my question if you can switch stances during attacks.
is guile a good counterpick to gief? im watching some gief videos and alot of them are gief having extreme trouble just getting closed to guile and keeping him close. even more trouble than vs. a shoto or sagat
yo check this out. at about 35 seconds he does a greenpunch+lowkick+greenpunch link how does he do that O_O
also how do you absorb the fireballs O_O?
well u always greenhand after a SPD.... the lowkick ex greenhand always combos.... usually a good gief combo is c.jab, jab, jab, s.lk, ex greenhand....
edit: also if u time your greenhand right (non-ex) i think u can cancel teh projectile im pretty sure.... with ex greenhand u gain invincibility im pretty sure
SPD= spinning piledriver or 360 get accustomed to greenhanding after spinning piledriver to build meter and get closer
to build off of this a really cheesy strategy you can use online is after landing SPD, immediately lp pimp slap to get close and immediately do another SPD as they get up - nine times out of ten it will hit them. In fact, it's guaranteed to hit them unless they have perfect wake-up shoryu's (not that common online) or they jump/backdash on wakeup. Against most players <2000BP online they'll fall for it all day so you can literally double perfect people if you score knockdowns before they damage you.
Easy ways to set up SPD (always use LP SPD unless punishing):
After 2 cr.lp After 2 cr.lp lk After whiffed hk After Jump in down + hp after blocked or landed pimp slap (not ex version) on their wakeup (aka meaty) after whiffed pimp slap if they jump over your pimp slap, LP is almost guaranteed to hit when they land.
There's tons of situations, but these are definitely the most useful. cr. lp cr. lp spd is usually guaranteed unless they're mashing out SRK, common in lower BP players.
edit: SPD stands for spinning pile driver by the way

I disagree.
I like how the do-nothing default is to get up slowly. It gives me a moment to think without having to worry about defending the next attack.
If the default was quick rise, then I'd have to actually do something to get up slowly. But if my reason for staying on the ground is to get a moment of peace, then I'm in a mindset where I don't want to think about pressing more inputs to stay on the ground. Furthermore, if I forget to quick rise, then I probably need a moment to collect my thoughts, anyway.
On the other hand, quick rising is only used when you are alert, so it's only natural that you should have to press the extra input to tell the game, "I am ready to get up immediately."
Of course Sirlin is some kind of Time God, so I'm sure he just stops time whenever he needs a break.
I don't know about SF4, but in other SF quick rise would often leave you open to a sweep. In that case, quick rise shouldn't be default. Someone learning SF4 would lose perfect in the corner because someone just sweep over and over as they got up. In 3S, quick rise opens up ground crossup which becomes confusing to block.

MadcatZ SF4 pad for the 360/PS3 is suppose to be the best pad for SF. It mimics the Saturn pad which arguably is the best fighting pad ever made. It has 6 face buttons. It's around 40 USD. A stick would be better, but they cost a lot more.
Finally passed up 4000bp tonight after disastrous last 2 days. Still only maintained being around 150th : / oh well
I been tryin to record some matches for fun, helps me kinda think about what im doin.. So have a vid if anyone cares. (Pretty good Honda, perfects me 2nd round)

I've debated buying a PS2 stick and hooking that up to the adapter but even the PS2 sticks appear to be pretty expensive still. Any that someone could recommend that's less than $100 and still decent (preferably not the SF anniversary stick since I heard it's ass and preferably one with a lollipop)?
There's lag on that converter so you'll probably miss a lot of combos or mistime your blocks on top of the lag you get if you play online.
Again: Hori EX2 if you want a cheap solution, Madcatz Fightstick SE if you *think* you might benefit from a mod. I have an EX2 and a TE and I play the same on both.

I'm stuck at 2300 BP on the 360.
Here's why you do NOT want to buy an SE. Basically, it might not even be usable out of the box, and it can die after just 10 hours of use. If you're going to replace the parts (which you will almost definitely have to within a week or two), then you'd might as well buy the TE because it will cost you almost the same amount, but the TE is heavier and has other nice features that the SE doesn't (e.g. turbos, and a compartment to store the cable).
