From what info was available, coop was the most popular gamemode, and was largely paid content (you had to buy most of the commanders to level them up). It was very likely a profitable model. Even ladder was making money through skins and announcers, not to mention how successful the war chests were (iirc they were hitting the $800k goals in like a week, and presumably were ending somewhere in the millions). Blizz simply dropped sc2 because it made millions, not billions. This, 100% Being merely profitable isn’t enough for publishers in this day and age, they want the new League or Fortnite kind of mega hit

Or hell just the novelty of discussing a game that’s still in alpha and hasn’t changed a massive amount towards being shippable has waned. Me and my buds who managed to get to check it out on a stream and had enthusiastic watching parties lost interest pretty quickly, it served as a promising taster for a hopefully appetising main course down the line. I just think it’s a bit of a jump from an answer that’s admittedly a bit odd to the studio having big funding problems. Maybe you’re right but I don’t think it’s much more than a gut feeling you’re going off just spent a couple of minutes googling Kakao. Man, they are super scummy. #1. money laundering. https://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/world/2023/11/501_364031.html this CEO guy works with Kakao blockchain assets. He is being held in the USA. #2. under several different investigations by Korea's Fair Trade Commission https://www.koreaboo.com/news/kakao-entertainment-responds-allegations-slandered-competing-idol-groups-amid-investigation-fair-trade-commission/ #3. jail time for a Kakao executive for manipulating stock prices. Bae Jae-hyun charged and arrested https://www.reuters.com/article/kakao-arrest/executive-of-south-koreas-kakao-arrested-over-share-purchases-idUKL4N3BP1Y2/ #4. a $220 million crypto scam. https://cryptonews.com/news/s-korean-prosecutors-to-probe-ex-kakao-ceo-over-crypto-embezzlement-allegations.htm The Kakao employee claims to 'invest' in some company using venture capital funds. the company does not exist. the employee claims the company failed and pockets the cash. Prosecutors will probe the tech giant’s founder and former CEO Kim Beom-su and fellow Kakao executives. Kim and others have been accused of embezzlement and breach of trust. The executives have also been accused of conducting fraudulent transactions, in violation of the terms of the Capital Markets Act. #5. Kakao Games profits down 48% as the founder of Kakao vows for better checks and balances to prevent more scams. https://pulsenews.co.kr/view.php?sc=30800028&year=2023&no=858276 Kakao is fucked and Frost Giant is scrambling for funding. Why didn't our "friends" at Frost Giant let us know they were pivoting off of Kakao because they are scum?

Kickstarter campaigns aren't planned and put together in 2 weeks. The Kickstarter account for Stormgate was created in June.

Frost Giant is getting money from Kakao. That money supply is being threatened and so Frost Giant needs to get money some place else. The KickStarter money is NOT going to be given to Kakao. They may have already got all the money for all we know. Regardless, like I said the Kickstarter account for Stormgate was created in June, so this has been planned for a long time and is not a reaction to anything about Kakao Games. Your commitment to spreading doom and gloom about the game is almost admirable but this one is easily proven to be false. Better luck next time. so you are speculating. cool. based on kakao's track record its possible no one knows where teh money is. LOL. On December 01 2023 15:37 _Spartak_ wrote: It doesn't matter. You ignore valid pushback against your ideas and keep pursuing the narrative you hope to construct. Appeals to fallacy fall short when you've shown no effort of good faith yourself. There have been several reasonable suggestions for what the kickstarter might represent, yet you spend your time googling an investor looking for data to help support your imagination. Try engaging the actual conversation!

For real, dude, if you want to do some kind of beautiful mind/tinfoil hat conspiracy theory nonsense, fine, but just keep it to yourself. Your posts are foolish and your personality is tiresome. I don't think anyone enjoys having you in this conversation.

One fact that makes Bw engine better than Sc2 engine was that in Bw, different units have different turning rates (turn as in rotate during movement, not latency settings), in Sc2 everything had the same uniform speed of turning around. But what do you get with all that snappiness and being able to float through water or whatever, when the end result is this? ![]() Maybe it was indeed atrocious that going up a ramp is taking skill, time, and luck in Sc1 but fixing that is not equal to greater responsivity

I see no need for the thread to be endless cheerleading by any means but a bit of back-and-forth would be nice

Unless I’m mistaken I don’t see why you couldn’t have all the snappiness and responsiveness while also having units with variable turn rates too? If memory serves WC3 had quite a bit of variability there while being full 3D, siege units turned rather slowly. And stuff like that I definitely think should be in any current gen title. I think both for aesthetic reasons it feels better that giant machines of war respond differently to a light skirmisher, but also in a gameplay sense it adds distinctiveness and interaction potential.
