Then again, its kinda nice compared to the complete silence over at Bonfire. I think it's to keep our attention and hype alive. Slowly dissominating information. We saw what aoe4 did. When that was announced like 5 years ago everyone was insanely hyped. I'm sure some of that hype was lost as we waited for so long. Frost Giant is finding a way to keep us interested. Then of course the other approach is something like RIOT does. When they announced Valorant, they didn't have to do so many pressers and leaks because they only announced it when the game was ready. I guess that is one downside to asking for community feedback, hype levels could simmer if you are not careful but it probably makes for a better product. On a tangential note I really hope at least 3 races are playable during the beta. I know Diablo 4 only let you play a few classes at first, and that was kind of a let down.

(LaForge’s sons, Nick “Tasteless” Plott and Sean “Day[9]” Plott, are fixtures in the StarCraft esports scene) Day9 and Tasteless mom as head of business. Whatever it will become it will be fun at least :D

I am not 100% sure on some of the details here, but i remember there being a platform clusterfuck at launch. It was exclusive to the windows store and drm/virtualisation system for a year i think? It's not just a storefront, it's actually so bad that i don't have or want anything that uses that system. It's on Steam now but it launched on there as "Anniversary Edition". And yeah i was waiting for some of these kinks to be ironed out to give it a try but everyone kinda quit before they were. I forgot about it in the interim and here we are.

Especially if it's supposed to replace StarCraft 2 yes please. reddit is so awful. im sure the official forums will be awful too like all official forums are. it'd be nice if TL could establish a good community (assuming the game is worthy) i know some frost giant employees have deep roots / history with TL.net. cannot stress enough how much i'd like for them to be active on TL.net instead of reddit, or at least on both if they really think reddit is so important

Especially if it's supposed to replace StarCraft 2 The closed pre-alpha is starting in 2 months. Almost certainly will be heavily NDA'd with no streaming or discussing the content publicly. If it is similar to Spellcraft and a few other recent games that I've participated in early alphas of the NDA'd version will last at least a year so beta will probably be that 'well into 2024' that they mention.

Right now there's barely enough content to discuss about Stormgate for one topic.

Come an open beta, if it’s promising then yeah 100% TL given its rich RTS history should give it that space for interested folk to congregate. I really hope they do as I’m approaching ‘old man yells at clouds’ territory in how much I dislike Reddit and Discord in lieu of a regular forum.

"No it won't happen." or a "we are considering it." would be nice. Because right now it really feels like RTS are becoming a forgotten part of teamliquid. This is kinda the point. This thread getting buried means there isn't much to discuss yet with no info and no gameplay. I'm sure coming closer to release we will have a subsection for this.

Which like, I guess it served the purpose they needed. They ask some questions and people respond and they can read all the responses one-by-one. It's not how Reddit is typically used, but it has worked for them. What I don't understand is why they would choose Reddit over TL.net, for example, to set up a community with official interactions, since Reddit is this place full of hate speech, outrage politics, identity politics, porn, illegal activities, etc. And because of the way it's formatted, not being chronological, posts not being bumped when replied to, and downvotes effectively censoring any unpopular comments, it is a hella awkward place to interact with people and have a good discussion. Meanwhile TL.net has good moderation rules, a cleaner community, a rich history with RTS games, and a tried-and-true forum format. And like I mentioned, there are people who work there who have been TL.net staff and/or posted heavily on TL.net. That ship has sailed. This game doesn't need a place on the sidebar yet. But there'll come a time when the NDA's are lifted and the beta is pretty far along. That's when there'll be a lot of attention (if the game is good) and I hope TL.net staff puts some effort into encouraging a community to be active here. And I'd hope FGS cares to interact with TL.net. tldr: nothing needs to happen yet but please god dont let reddit ultimately be the de facto official community gathering place for this game

That is because TL is used to discuss a few games while Reddit is basically for all games (among other things), and posts being upvoted there have the chance to reach a wider audience through the front page system. We already know easing the onboarding of new players is one of the goals Frost Giant has for their game so I think the decision makes some sense. As you've pointed out though, reddit has many flaws, and in my opinion can even hinder their game design. The way upvotes work, being an early commenter has a larger than usual sway in the public perception of a post. A top reply in a thread may have 150 upvotes, and be reasonable, but an even better more thought out response could be posted a few days later and only receive a few upvotes or even be downvoted if it contradicts any points the top replier made simply because it was buried at the bottom. Comments tend to snowball and whatever is at the top becomes the consensus opinion on a topic, however I would argue it is possible an opinion the community may like even more may never see the light of day because of this. In TL each post has a fair chance to be entertained.

I can't be bothered to read reddit. Pretty sure I'm not the only one. And the official homepage has very little information and a really outdated and small FAQ section
