The only things that work exclusively on PC are RTS I think you are making a confusion between sale potential and what is really the best platform to make this kind of hybrid. Btw Dx like SS2 are cult classics but they weren't huge hits. In fact i think that there are no relation between the quality of a game and the amount of $ generated by its sales ( also true for films or books ).
If console kids want their own hybrid they can play Bioshock 2.

I don't argue that FPS are best on PC. But they're also quite fun on consoles and more than playable. But pretty much any kind of game, esp a FPS, that is PC-only is destined for failure, especially considering how badly butchered the last few installments in the series were.

I have to say Deus Ex is one of my all time favourite games, I've been following some what and reading the official forum. From what I see it looks like the developers are reviewing and trying to implement what the community likes in the first game, big levels, multiple ways to complete missions etc.. as well as fixing what people disliked about Invisible War.
I really do think Deus Ex 3 is going to be just as good as Deus Ex if not better. At the very least, better than Invisible War.... you can't really go lower than that after hearing what the community disliked about it.
After about a decade I think the golden age of PC gaming is coming back... SC2, D3, Deus Ex 3.... !

Its sad, because there has been an almost unanimous public dissatisfaction with the direction the game is heading in. And as a response, all the dues ex fans have got is a "bad luck, deal with it"
I was just wondering what you meant by generic shooter... from what I have seen the developers are trying to bring back everything that made Deus Ex great.
From the official forum FAQ post
DEUS EX 3 GAME SUMMARY: A huge cyberpunk story with conspiracies. Non-linear, multi-path, multi-solution gameplay. Different ways to solve any objective depending on your play style (social, hacking, stealth or action). Character and weapon customisation. Action/RPG just like the first game. Choices and consequences. A semi-open world approach to levels and missions. Different characters to meet and interact with. An inventory system similar to DX1. It's not a sandbox. It's not totally linear. It's like the best of both of those approaches. Random explorable elements with earned experience points. Global travel.
Of course I can't say that they are going to DO everything they said they would... but plans are there to stay true to what made Deus Ex awesome.

anyone who actually put time into deus ex will know it was one of the best and most lovingly crafted games ever made, and will be excited about this, and hopeful that it won't be like IW! The end

.I have to say, a lot of the impressions I've seen about this game go to show that if you tack a good name on something, people will go crazy for it.
None of the creative team attached to the original DX is in any way involved with this. Spector and Smith are long gone, and all signs seem to point toward Eidos just reviving an old franchise to boost sales. Until some actual gameplay gets to us, this remains Deus Ex only in name.

Eidos doesn't exist anymore, it's Square Enix Europe now. And this "PC" thing is just a PR stunt. They'll announce it for consoles very soon.
Deus Ex writer Sheldon Pacotti is contracting with Square Enix Montreal, so there's hope that at least it'll have a decent script.

EARLY 2011!!!
That trailer ranks right up there with the first WoW trailer and a few others. Better than SC2's, imo.

My interest is piqued, but there's no way my laptop is good enough to run this...
The first game was pretty good, though I never liked it as much as System Shock 2. Never played the second.

OH I JUST JIZZED MY PANTS

wow. that trailer....wow.

ok
need to see a gameplay trailer now

Oh my.
I loved the original so much, and even managed to build a bond with Invisible War through sheer determination.
Something inside me just clicked, and my excitement is starting to grow.
Can't wait.

The deus ex is one of the only old games I could go back and play now and enjoy. Easily my favorite single player game. And that trailer looks amazing. Although I heard they dumbed down the actual game :/ Oh well still might be good.

This is either going to be one of the greatest games of all time or the greatest gaming disappointment ever for me.
DX was a special, special game that I will always hold close to my heart.
Here's to hoping they don't fuck it up.

^3 Minute trailer (posted above but I thought it deserved another link). The production value on the cinematics is off the hook. If that translates to the game itself... potential Greatest of All Time.

Looks like they are trying to get back to what really made Deus Ex so good. I don't even like the genre that much and I am all over this one.

As much as I love the Deus Ex series, I am really worried about the 3rd one now that Square Enix owns Eidos. Hopefully the main character will not be a 15 yr old emo boy...
