Today, Bungie, creator of Halo and current developer of Destiny 2, has announced a massive expansion as the result of rapid growth since its split from Activision. A press release out today cites a number of coming changes to Bungie, all them seeming to be good news for both the company, and fans of its games. Here are the highlights about what’s taking place over the coming next few years: Bungie is doing a massive redesign and expansion of its Bellevue HQ in Washington which will take its size from 84,000 square feet to 208,000. This is to allow for future growth but also recent hires. Last report was that a quarter of Bungie employees had never set foot in Bungie HQ because they were all hired during the pandemic as the studio staffed up rapidly. Bungie will also open a studio internationally, over in Amsterdam, which will be mainly about publishing and marketing. That will happen in 2022. Bungie is bringing on new high-up hires while retaining their old crew, and forming two distinct teams going forward. Luke Smith and Mark Noseworthy will continue to run the Destiny universe with its “highly engaged fanbase,” giving players hope that Destiny content will continue indefinitely past Lightfall, the announced 2022 expansion. They are also forming separate teams for its new incubation projects, though none are officially announced here. They plan to release their first non-Destiny IP before 2025, so we are talking long, long term plans here. They say “at least” one new IP before then. Under a section called “Bungie welcomes entertainment and media expertise to board of directors” they announce the addition of Pamela Kaufman, President of Global Consumer Products for ViacomCBS, to the board. No specific projects are mentions, but the heavy implication here is that Bungie may be looking to bring its IPs (Destiny, most obviously) to non-games media like TV or film. There is always some trepidation about how Bungie is doing with its somewhat shrinking Destiny playercount over time, and yet the game is still very, very large and features an active fanbase that is clearly spending enough on expansions, seasons and Eververse transactions to partially fund this. Bungie has also gotten outside investment as well, like $100 million from NetEase back in June 2018. Regardless, this all only seems like good news for both Bungie and Destiny fans, with that series seeming like it has a potentially unlimited lifespan, alongside other IPs Bungie is working on. I’ve said for a while now that it seems clear Bungie wants to be BioWare or Blizzard in their primes with multiple IPs in their arsenal, and this is the road you take to get there. Exciting stuff. I was dissatisfied with the buggy teleporting that happened for a few weeks in the past. However , if working through this issues means we can have larger scale fights.. i'm all for it. Lono/SNTR is an annoying drone on the microphone, However, Bungie did him dirty. Its funny how some Destiny focused creators are starting to "branch out" after seeing what happened to SNTR. Its a wise move to diversify and not allow any single private company to hold your professional fate in their hands. As much as I love MS development tools .. I've never banked my entire career and C#//Visual Studio//ASP.NET//SQL-Server. I've always done a fair amount of xBase and LAMP development in case MS changes its licensing rules for SQL Server and ends up screwing my little niche into the ground. Relating this back to Destiny: its a bad move for any content creator to base their entire business on a Bungie game. Any how, I'm loving these larger scale battles. The story is pedestrian standard sci-fi war story stuff.. but its kinda cool. Is Zavala gonna get killed or what? He is starting to annoy me any way. I like how they are doing a "slow burn" on whether or not he'll get assassinated.

For casuals like me these kinds of lore summary videos are great. Destin does a great job of editing stuff down to the essentials.

For me, the teleporting enemies now occurs very rarely. the teleporting made the experience kinda MEH for a few weeks. That is over now. I can tolerate losing a degree of polish and the fighting through some bugginess if it is for an ambitious purpose. KUDOS to Bungie for being ambitious and creating large army fights. Bungie is walking a long tight rope here. I hope they can keep it up. I`d love to see Bungie continue to push with bigger and bigger fights all the way up to Planetside2 levels of combat.

About 2 years ago i repeatedly requested more content; to be fair to Bungie i stated i was willing to pay more money for additional content. By some weird coincidence this is exactly what is going on now. The price per year of this game continues to rise... and i just keep on paying. OK, Bungie. Take my money. Here is a really good lore recap for Season of the Splicer.

But yeah, not sure if it was the marketing budget or Activisions marketing department in general, but 1, Taken King and 2's marketing was so fucking cool. I think Activision skimped out on Forsaken's marketing.

One thing I dont like about Destiny rn is.....elemental association with armor seems like its a bit much...especially in a game without good inventory management. Honestly I know im not enjoying the RPG side of Destiny as much as I'd like because im more focused on getting my light level up rather than finding the best perks for a particular build.

Bungie can kiss any potential new players good fucking bye with such a decision. Never mind there is no guarantee that it will not be vaulted in the future.
