I also went from a buy for sure to being upset at pricing and deciding against pre order or day 1 buy. I'll wait for an xmas deal or for my birthday next year. Im sure at some point the itch will outweight me being upset on a principal.
Same, but I'm still excited for DarkPlasmaBall and all his feedback. Have fun d00d!
Thanks, and I understand where you both are coming from
Right now you are a trusted source on switch stuff so please keep going even if you switch to 2 (attempt at pun intended 😂) plus i actually enjoy reading your notes on games and the tier lists!
Thanks for the support! I had finished my Switch 1 backlog so I played a non-Nintendo video game right before the Switch 2 came out (Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on Steam... absolutely amazing game by the way, at least A+ tier for me, if not S tier, although I won't be adding it to my Switch tier list obviously)... and now I'm really enjoying Mario Kart World! I'm only like 2 hours in and there is so. much. to. do. It's chock full of personality and Easter eggs / references for Mario/Nintendo fans. MKW is gonna be 100+ hours of gameplay for me, easily. I think it's well worth the $50.
I've only spent a few hours on the Switch 2 so far, and everything seems to be running smoothly. Transferring my account and all my games/data from my Switch 1 to my Switch 2 was very simple. Setting up and using GameChat is easy and straightforward and surprisingly reliable. Screen sharing with friends is solid (my friend was able to watch me play a little Super Smash Bros. Ultimate while we were talking on GameChat together). The new Switch 2 pro-controller and new Switch 2 joy-cons feel more comfortable than the Switch 1 versions. GameCube games are now available on Nintendo Switch Online for Switch 2 (I've never played TLoZ: The Wind Waker, so that'll be on my list of games to eventually try out). Day 1: the system is making me smile. High resolution. No framerate drops. So far, so good!
PS: Given that the Switch 2 is almost perfectly backwards compatible, I figure I'll just add on new Switch 2 titles to my current tier list... but I'll probably just focus on the higher tiers, like B- and up. It's less of a headache for me, that way.
Got my Switch 2, downloading mario kart as we speak. Still finishing Expedition 33 on PS5 (amazing game btw!), when that’s done I’m looking forward to (FINALLY) playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3 on Switch 2. I held off on purchasing it for the Switch 1 as the 2 was close-ish. And after that Xenoblade Chronicles X. It’s gonna be a good summer!
Ok it looks like around me people were less upset about the price tags.
Just out of curiosity went to 6 specialized stores near my area. 5 of those had big signs saying switch 2 sold out. The 6th one had 2 units left but switch 2 only, zero with the MKW combo pack.
Empty shelf space and amount of advertising inside the shops showed that it was not due to low number of units being available to begin with. They had a lot and were cleaned out. Which despite my issues, im happy for Nintendo.
"It's Official, Switch 2 Has Sold Over 3.5 Million Units Globally In Its First Four Days... The fastest-selling Nintendo hardware ever.
Following the Switch 2's launch last week, Nintendo has now officially confirmed its new hybrid hardware has sold "over 3.5 million units worldwide" in the first four days.
The system debuted on 5th June 2025 and this figure happens to make it the "highest global sales level for any Nintendo hardware" ever in the first four days."
"The Nintendo Switch 2 launched last week to some rather impressive launch day sales. According to early reports from the first few days of launch, over 3 million consoles were sold within the first two days of release.
The stats reportedly cover Thursday, 5 June, and Friday, 6 June, and claim that Nintendo’s early pre-order adoption and day-one purchases for the console surpass 3 million units. These numbers also don’t cover the weekend sales, which are likely to be a few million too.
At the moment, the Nintendo Switch 2 is the fastest-selling console in a 24-hour period in history. No other gaming hardware has managed to sell 3 million units within 24 hours.
Previously, Sony’s PS4 console held the record with 1 million units sold on launch day. The console went on to sell 4.5 million units within the first month, so while its launch day sales were high, it took a month to sell what the Nintendo Switch 2 will likely sell within its launch week."
Honestly surprised at the sale number. I can see stock everywhere I go. And there's no real hype game to go with it too. That's the Nintendo brand effect I guess.

Mario Kart World is the sequel to the best-selling Switch 1 game (Mario Kart 8 Deluxe sold nearly 70 million copies), and it's been a very, very long time since a new Mario Kart game came out. Mario Kart World is the "real hype game", and for only $50 it's an absolute steal.
I'm absolutely loving the game too Mario Kart 64 will always be my favorite (because I grew up with it), but Mario Kart World is easily the best Mario Kart game in the series.

No doubt it's a best seller, but I wouldn't think it is a console seller like botw, let alone this number. I haven't seen much talking about Mario kart or much of the hype at all, so it was quite a shock.
Just for the sake of casually gathering some information on one aspect of the Switch 2 - battery life - I ran and reran a bunch of tests to (anecdotally) find out how long my Switch 2 stays alive while playing games. I almost always play in docked mode on my living room television, but for those who prefer to play in handheld mode, it seems that the battery life generally ranges from 2 hours (absolute maximum settings enabled, highest brightness, playing the largest and most demanding of game titles, online use, etc.) to around 6 hours on a single charge. This also seems pretty consistent with articles I've read reporting other people's experiences too. During this 2-6 hour range of repeated playtesting, I also saw essentially zero framerate drops, beautiful and smooth gaming experiences all the way through.
"Nintendo has announced a Direct showcase focused on upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Donkey Kong Bananza. It’s set for this Wednesday, June 18, at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm UK time. The announcement was made first in the Nintendo Today! app, where it was revealed the Direct will last 15 minutes." https://www.ign.com/articles/nintendo-announces-donkey-kong-bananza-direct-for-this-week
Definitely looking forward to the Nintendo Direct! Also looking forward to playing Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster, another Nintendo Switch 2 launch title. I'm a huge fan of both the Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler franchises.
DK Rap, DKC music, Rambi the Rhino, Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, Pauline, upgrades / skill tree, 3D-platforming collect-a-thon reminiscent of Super Mario Odyssey and DK64... I can't wait for this to come out! July 17th, less than one month away!
After playing Mario Kart World for dozens of hours, here are my thoughts:
In its current (day one release) form, I think Mario Kart World is already better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and that's a pretty high bar to clear. The traditional grand prix races are not only solid (as always, in nearly every Mario Kart game) but they've been elevated by three specific factors: (1) the enormous increase in racers from 8 to 12 to 24; which isn't overly cluttered because (2) you can ride, grind, and juke on more surfaces and shortcuts than ever before, separating yourself from the pack; and (3) the Nintendo team has done a better job at balancing items and improving loss recovery. I didn't mind that many courses have changed from the typical "three identical laps" to longer single routes either.
I found Knockout Tour to be my favorite additional mode to play, adding a fun and reasonable level of tension throughout each of the laps/benchmarks, as opposed to just caring about winning at the very end of the race. I think Battle mode is a little too unstructured and "busy" for my taste; with so many players chaotically cramped together, I felt that the results were more luck-based than anything else.
I was originally confused when the title screen's main tabs didn't include "Free Roam", nor was it a main tab in the "Single Player" options. And then I noticed that it was a small label in the bottom right corner, which I thought was weird until I activated it and the title screen turned right into Free Roam mode. I expected some sort of loading screen, but instead you just take over the character that had been driving around on your screen the whole time, which I thought was awesome. That default character also changes to whoever you last played as, which is a nice touch, and of course you can still change your character and location any time you want.
I can also see why Free Roam has been the most divisive mode in Mario Kart World: from an adventurous, competitive perspective, the trials and collectibles are underwhelming, spread thin, and not well recorded in such a vast land; from a sight-seeing, nostalgic, relaxed perspective, it has an unbelievable level of detail and an insane number of Mario references. I would say that Free Roam is primarily designed to be a mode where you drive through a time capsule, with occasional tasks and prizes for exploration.
Online play is fun and cutthroat, and I never have to wait for long stretches of time between races (and the less-than-one-minute break temporarily puts you into Free Roam mode anyway, so you can casually drive around if you want). Having a lot of characters to choose from is nice, though the character/costume/vehicle select screens are extremely disorganized. The maps are gorgeous and incredibly detailed (Rainbow Road is especially breathtaking), mirror mode is a wonderful (albeit expected) bonus, the controls are very responsive, and I never experienced any frame rate drops (even online). Playing with friends over GameChat makes the experience even more lovely.
Mario Kart World has earned an A+ from me, and if they find ways to add even more content over the next few months - more characters, more costumes, more racetracks, more objectives in Free Roam - it may even end up in my super-exclusive S-tier ranking.

The DK franchise means a lot to me as a kid, it was my first console video game ever (DKC), my second GB game (DKL 2), and my first N64 game DK64.
super excited for it, i know i shouldn't but i came help it, i am trying so hard to negotiate the lore in my mind to make the trailer make sense.
35 hours into my third playthrough of XCX, but this time the definitive edition on Switch 2. Some systems or mechanics were nerfed or removed entirely to make the game a bit less grindy, something the purists will hate but I can appreciate. Still the best open world I've ever had the pleasure of playing. Not sure if I can complete the endgame without Nintendo Online to farm medals though, we'll see how to solve that issue when we get there. I'm reading that in offline mode you can get daily ticket rewards and survey % also give tickets, so we'll see how far that gets us.

If this young Pauline is the daughter/granddaughter of the traditional Pauline, then the DK/Pauline/Jumpman/Mario timeline could be somewhat safe and sensible, although tbh I don't think Nintendo really has an official lore mapped out that ties together all the Mario games and/or DK games. They've retconned things before, like how Bowser used to have 7 kids (the Koopalings from SMB3) and then they were no longer his kids when Bowser Jr. came along, or how Mario is isn't is isn't is isn't Jumpman. I like hearing about the Zelda timeline, but I don't think there is really an equivalent for Mario/DK (outside of a DK family tree).
I just finished another Switch 2 launch title that I mostly enjoyed, called Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster. I'm a fan of the Bravely Default series (old-school turn-based JRPG, similar to Octopath Traveler and Final Fantasy), and the combat, customization, job system, and general graphics were all on the positive side for me. There was a lot to do, including a ton of side/optional content, and I generally had a lot of fun doing it!
I wasn't a huge fan of the cliche dialogue though, the story was pretty lazy (four elemental crystals - fire, water, earth, wind - and characters with amnesia during the first half, and a few other overused tropes during the second half that I won't get into, to avoid spoilers), and one of your four party members is an extremely cringeworthy womanizer (literally his entire personality is wanting to find scantily clad ladies, and he lets you know this every time he talks... and he talks a lot).
I subjectively weigh gameplay and combat much higher than story and character development, so I'm giving Bravely Default: Flying Fairy HD Remaster either an A- or an A. If you don't like retro-style turn-based JRPGs or if you care deeply about clever plots and strong characters, you'll probably want to skip this one.

turns out i was sorta wrong on this.
It is true that the individual parts of the Switch 2 added together and then adding the manufacturing , distribution , and research costs it makes $450 USD seem to be a reasonable price. However, the whole is LESS THAN the sum of the parts. The screen doesn't properly carry the power the CPU and GPU offer thereby wrecking the game experience. The screen refreshes substantially slower than the OG Switch1.
Smear and blur create problems during fast moving 2D games. NES Ice Hockey is not lightning fast by any means. The puck moves very fast on the hardest slap shots.. and that's it. However, people can't pick up the puck during goal crease scrambles. There is so much smear and blur going on combined with the sprite flicker the game sucks on the Switch2. The Sprite flicker is more tolerable on the Switch1 and far more easy to deal with on a TV.
For fast moving 2D games the Switch2's screen is pretty bad. I'm surprised it is worse than the Switch1 OG model. I'm not surprised the Switch1- OLED is far better though.
Nintendo did a great job hiding the flaw in their screen during their marketing run for this system. All those useful idiot IGN reviewers drooling over the "amazing" LCD screen LOL.
The Switch2-OLED will probably be a really good system.

I hope you enjoy some of the other games!
I decided to play The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for the first time ever, since it's one of over a hundred older-gen games that come with Nintendo Switch Online for the Switch 2. I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far, although I wouldn't personally put it in the top tier of Zelda games that I've played. I'm also excited to play the improved versions of Pokemon Scarlet, BotW, and TotK; I think I might be able to squeeze in Scarlet before Donkey Kong Bananza drops. I replayed Arceus a few months ago, and playing Scarlet sometime soon will give me two recent Pokemon games to compare with Z-A

i used a relative's Switch2.
Other than the screen i'd say the Switch2 is almost genius level design. When the OLED model comes out i'll probably pick it up. the decisions Nintendo made around the screen are puzzling.
