What? And 80 euro games? I hope that is the reference for germany or something, because that is a very significant price hike for both system and games (at least for the current prices here).
It might put a significant dent on first day purchases around here.
Ok so i have checked the 2 major chains here and both list NSW2 at 509.99 Euros with MKW.....469.99 Euros system alone. So my previous prediction that we would still have reasonable prices here looks like its not coming to pass.
That plus game prices are quickly pushing my prior plans away. I can afford it, i just dont find it reasonable and im a very stubborn individual 😂
It might just be that this is to milk launch day buyers and will then stabilize but im much less optimistic now.

It's a $10 premium for physical games, so should be slightly cheaper for the digital copy.
If this "game" is truly just going to be a tutorial and walkthrough for everything Nintendo Switch 2 has to offer, then I probably won't get it unless it's free. I honestly think that a basic tour of the hardware should come standard with every Nintendo Switch 2. There will be so many identical video walkthroughs posted on YouTube that I wonder what would actually be unique and worth the $6-7 for basic instructional demos.
On the other hand, if NS2WT includes a variety of mini-games or other interesting gameplay content, then maybe I'll throw a few bucks in and purchase it. I imagine we'll learn more about this item over the next two months, before the Switch 2 releases.
Update: Welcome Tour may actually be $10. The upgraded Zelda versions are $10 but are also apparently free if we have NSO already. I don't see a reason to buy WT at this point in time, but Zelda prices are pretty respectable imo.

Physical games here are cheaper than their eshop counterpart, to me it always made sense due to not being required to shift cartridges all the time.
But I digress, dont want to shift the focus to my particular issues with the price tags. I have time until June to decide if im more stubborn or more impressed. Ill try my best to refrain from my price point objections.
Is the 10 dollar premium going to be a thing in the US? I know everyone says that how it should be, but I'm surprised physical retailers letting that fly because my understanding is that they don't like that at all. And Nintendo yields to that because physical is still really important to them.

Pricing is a major topic, why avoid it? Nintendo messaging on pricing has been convoluted and meandering. on /r/NintendoSwitch most of the upvotes are going to topics about pricing. Nintendo has since sent out an army of PR mouthpieces to quell the storm. Bill Trinen, this Bowser guy ... they should bring back Reggie.
overshadowing dicussion around what the Switch 2 is capable of, the new gameplay mechanics in Mario Kart World, and OG Switch games that will find a new lease of life on Switch 2, is a backlash to Nintendo's pricing strategy.
so we've got upgrades that are outright free. upgrades taht are $10, upgrades taht are free if you have an online subscription... upgrades that cost money even if you have an online subscription ... etc etc. its a mess. Some Switch1 games are compatible.. 100s are not. Some are saying that some Switch 1 games "will become compatible" over time. I don't know what is going on and i am too lazy to research every possible permutation.
Imagine the parent with 3 kids 4 to 12 going to Walmart to figure this out? no one is gonna know what is going on.

Pre-orders Delayed in Canada hours before it was to be available! Nintendo has got to re-align their messaging. They are getting cooked. The system's specs are similar to a mid-level Steamdeck with a similar price to a midlevel Steamdeck. The components and hardware are definitely in line with a $450 USD price tag. Nintendo's messaging is the problem. https://mobilesyrup.com/2025/04/08/nintendo-switch-2-pre-orders-canada-delay/
Also, charging $10 for that Tech Tutorial is an own goal.

Clearly, they are using emulation and they have to test each individual game. it is not like the motherboard and CPU are some kind of "superset" of the capabilities of the Switch1.

Every single one of those games says "This issue is being investigated." So we don't actually know that hundreds of Switch 1 games aren't going to be compatible with the Switch 2; the creator of this website just hasn't found information one way or the other yet. Maybe some of them won't be compatible, I guess. I think it'd be helpful to hear more from Nintendo.
78% of 3rd party games require more testing. The facts, as of April 8, make it impossible for Nintendo to a provide clear, concise message about the Switch2's backwards compatibility status.
I'm loving all this. I just hope given the current political situation, I'll be able to pre-order soon. I'm too lazy to link the news here, but Nintendo is scrambling to get all the units created in Vietnam to get to America where the tariff is way less severe.

Great news:
"Switch 2 will remain at the previously announced price of $449.99 for the base hardware and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle, Nintendo has announced.
Prices for Mario Kart and Donkey Kong Bananza will also remain unchanged and retailer pre-orders in the region will begin on 24th April.
However, previously announced prices for accessories have been adjusted "due to changes in market conditions" and the company doesn't rule out the possibility of price adjustments to "any Nintendo product" in the future."
the Nintendo Switch 2 console hardware itself is reasonably priced. Everything else about the system is going to push away a lot of casuals.

yea, well i called it. the US price is very close to $630 Canadian. Much adieu about nuttin'
and i'd like to amplify my point about how video games do not matter. they do not matter and, more importantly, they should not matter. the role of game playing in human life and even in animal life is for a fun, open, and silly avenue of zero real loss in order to provide an avenue for skill building. if you take games super seriously they lose their value.
do you improve at math during the final exam? nah, you improve when you're riffing out ideas and mashing out possible answers... going down all kinds of blind alleys before getting a plausible answer. do you grow as a basketball/baseball/football player in the most serious games? nah, you grow in practice.. when you can afford to make a million mistakes. if anything, during those serious games ... .your game repertoire recedes and you only employ your most dependable techniques.
so , ya , video games should not matter. they are much more fun that way.
Eh, I disagree. But I do think they shouldn't be the only thing that matter. I think you need to have to have at least one in-door hobby, one outdoor hobby. One alone hobby, one social hobby.
