I haven't loved a console like this since the SNES; it's had the most amazing roster of games, and all three of my kids grew up playing it with me. I've spent thousands of hours on it over the years; Mario Soccer with my sons, Mario Aces Tennis with my daughter, endless hours of Pikmin 3 and Smash Bros with my youngest during a long series of hospital stays. My wife and I have spent 400+ hours exploring Hyrule together. That little computer has brought so much joy to my family, I can only hope they can keep it up for another generation; the Switch 2 will be Nintendo for the rest of my kids' childhoods! That's so awesome ![]()

1. Backwards compatibility with the Switch 1; 2. Virtual game card for transferring digital games across devices; 3. Whatever the new C Button will be used for; 4. How the new Joy-Cons becoming computer mice will be used; 5. The Switch 2's base price (I'm expecting $449 or $499); 6. Hardware specs and dimensions; 7. Improved online features / Voice Chat / eShop; 8. More information on Mario Kart 9; 9. A new Animal Crossing / Mario / Zelda title or bundle; 10. A major PS/Xbox release for the Switch 2 (e.g., Elden Ring), similar to how Skyrim was shown as playable on Switch 1.

Mario Kart World (Mario Kart 9) looks absolutely amazing. They did such a great job of expanding Mario Kart to be so much more than what it’s been in the past. There’s also an additional MKW Direct on April 17th with even more information! Nintendo Switch 2 launch date is June 5, 2025. Releasing with Mario Kart World as a bundle. Instant buy. 9 out of 10 of my Switch 2 Direct predictions were correct, although there was no mention of the console's price. (The base price of the Switch 2 was immediately confirmed off stream as $449 and the bundle price is $499, the exact 2 prices I had predicted. Extremely reasonable costs. https://www.ign.com/articles/nintendo-switch-2-price-confirmed ) C Button = Chat Button / GameChat: voice chat, microphone, optional camera, and screen sharing options! Bigger dimensions, better specs, and more quality-of-life improvements (ports, buttons, stand, etc.). 256 GB, 4K/60FPS HDR support, 1080p/120FPS HDR support, extra ports, game cards having faster data reading speeds, backwards compatibility for both physical and digital Switch 1 games, game card transfers between Switch 1 and Switch 2, Joy-Cons having computer mouse controls, etc. New pro controller not only has the C button and an audio jack, but also GL and GR buttons (behind the two arms of the controller for programming existing button controls... maybe GL and GR stand for Grip Left and Grip Right). Elden Ring for Switch 2. Called it! Also: Final Fantasy 7 Remake/Rebirth games, Hollow Knight: Silksong, Cyberpunk 2077, Hades 2, Street Fighter 6, Borderlands 4, Civilization VII, Daemon X Machina, Split Fiction, Drag X Drive, The Duskbloods, Hitman, Yakuza, Project 007 (related to N64’s GoldenEye), various EA Sports games, and more new/updated third-party titles. A new Zelda game (Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment), related to Tears of the Kingdom. A new Kirby game (Kirby Air Riders), a sequel to GameCube’s Kirby’s Air Ride. A new 3D Donkey Kong platformer. A NEW 3D DONKEY KONG PLATFORMER. A. NEW. 3D. DONKEY. KONG. PLATFORMER. It’s called Donkey Kong Bananza (banana + bonanza). Interesting art style for DK's new appearance. Nintendo Switch Online: GameCube games! The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soul Caliber 2, F-Zero GX, Super Mario Sunshine, Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, Pokemon XD Gale of Darkness, Super Mario Strikers, Chibi-Robo, Luigi’s Mansion, and Pokemon Colosseum… and a wireless, compatible GameCube controller for the Nintendo Switch 2.

While I'm definitely getting it on launch, I'm still deciding what to pick up with it.

Physical version of mario kart rumored to be 90 euros. That’s not extremely reasonable to me, those are PS5 prizes lol. 50% increase on both the system and the games. But hey we’re 34 with a job now so who cares. 16 year old me would be sad tho.

Switch Lite = $200 (portable only) Switch 1 = $300 (portable + docked) Switch OLED = $350 (portable + docked) Switch 2 = $450 (portable + docked, next-gen) Seems pretty reasonable to me imo, for a next-gen console that's a much bigger jump than Switch 1 -> Switch OLED. The OLED was +$50, so I'm not at all surprised for the next-gen jump to be +$100 more. Mario Kart World is rumored to be $80 if you buy it on its own, but it's only $50 if you buy the Switch 2 bundle. Source: https://www.ign.com/articles/mario-kart-world-costs-80-30-cheaper-if-you-buy-it-bundled-with-the-nintendo-switch-2 Nintendo is also consistently cheaper than PlayStation (the PS5 Slim is indeed around $450, but that has no portable mode so you'd need to pay extra money for a whole other console if you want something handheld, and if you want PS5 Base/Pro models and/or games/bundles, the price skyrockets by hundreds of dollars... and there are still no portable modes). Also, just wait until the PS6 and next-gen Xbox come out for even crazier prices!

If that's true, then Switch 2 games are officially more expensive than PS5 games, which is insane. GTA 6 being 100 euros suddenly makes a lot more sense if Mario Kart is 90 lmao.

If this next console generation features an increase in price - even just $5-10 per game - that will definitely add up over time. Gamers will feel that, and it's definitely a huge cause for concern because we're not used to It's interesting that games haven't really increased in price over the past 30+ years. Nintendo 64 came out 29 years ago, and even in that generation the games were the usual $60-70 (identical to Switch 1 games). Google tells me that SNES games were similarly priced too, several years beforehand. With everything else in the world costing more over the past few decades (and especially more post-covid), it's miraculous that video games have actually become cheaper over time (after adjusting for inflation). Even though it'll hurt, I won't be surprised when even the price of video games starts to increase, slowly moving through the $70s and maybe even into the $80s. Ironically, if N64 games had increased by a few dollars compared to SNES games, and then GCN games also increased a tiny amount compared to N64, and so on through the Wii and the Wii U and the Switch 1 generations, then the Switch 2 games would have an expectation of being $80-90 each. But that didn't happen, and we thankfully saved a ton of money over the past 30 years, but now we may be unprepared for (and angry with) a cost increase. I hope we get lucky and keep the average cost of next-gen games ≤ $70, but I guess we'll see!

Not sure how second hand game would work, if at all, because that's how I always bought my switch games (99% of them aren't a first day buy for me) I was gifted astro bot the other day, it's almost as good if not better than Mario odyssey for me, huge gameplay varieties and extreme polish. And it's only $60.

Not only do you still have to download the whole game onto your system's drive or sd, same as a digital copy, but then you still need to have the key plugged in to play the game. You even need internet connection when launching the game for the first time. Only 256GB storage space on the Switch itself. That is like 2 large games? (I checked Switch 1 had game above 60GB, so 4 games.)

Significant increase to 256 GB with the Switch 2. Average game size seems to be around 10 GB, but you can always archive games that you're not playing for a while (or that you're done with) to make more room to download additional games - and the saved data won't disappear.

"As reported by VGC, Mario Kart World will cost $80 / £75 physically, but will actually be cheaper if you opt for a digital copy. ... Donkey Kong Bananza, meanwhile, will be slightly cheaper. In the US, a physical copy will cost $69.99 but we don't yet have a digital price, while in the UK, this one will be £66.99 physically and £58.99 digitally. There's been no official explanation as to the discrepancy in the pricing at the time of writing, but we'll be sure to let you know if Nintendo provides some more information." https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2025/04/switch-2-games-cost-a-bit-more-than-youre-probably-expecting I imagine we'll get more clarity throughout April and May.

![]() Apparently, in the late 70s and early 80s before Canada and the USA had extensive free trade agreements Atari 2600, Commodore64 and Intellivision smuggling was a real thing.

Nintendo shifted to manufacturing to Vietnam as a reaction to Trump's first go a the trade war... now for reasons it will be 46% percent charge on imports from Vietnam. slightly unlucky for Nintendo as things stand currently... and people from the US who will want one coming June if things keep going this way.
