Good lord, Diablo 3 is such a good fit for the console.

There are some niggles (for instance, my GF who played with me lost 5 levels worth of progress due to not having an online account, and the fact that you need paid online to backup your safes), but simply the fact that I don't have to play online makes this twice as good as the PC version.

Oh, and some builds straight up don't work as well.

If switch sells 13m this year alone (forecast is 20m, so far it's like 5.5m but holiday incoming and the big hits) they will surpass the PS4 at the same timeframe (second year)

i think they'll hit the 20m this year, meaning 37m in April 2019, Smash and Pokemon are really strong

Nintendo's own site is showing the Switch at 22.86m lifetime at the end of September.

Anyone have a problem with their Left shoulder button not working on the joycon? Im gonna send mine in to Nintendo under warranty. I did some research and found quite a few complaints online ;( im nervous about sending the whole system in the mail. I called Nintendo and they mentioned needing to send the system with the joycon to verify its not a system issue. I dont have another left Joycon to verify if its a problem with the joycon or system. I suspect its the joycon based on what i read online.

Been playing let's go for a while, it's okay, but the capture shit is just not engaging.
Really would prefer old capture mechanic, in general i feel like this would've been a very fun kanto remake without the dumb hand-holding and phone gimmicks.

Not a terrible game, i'm enjoying it, it just could be so much more.

i'm having a blast with it so far.

it finally cuts 20+ years of fat from the franchise. the new wild pokemon locations and increased incentive to capture wild pokemon means actually using new compositions.

The only thing that held me back was the pokeball catching hand motion mechanic. Guess I can overlook that.

I will say, not having wild battles felt weirder that I expected it to. I caught myself thinking "I haven't been in a battle yet." Literally seconds before the first one starts. Trying to make this thing last instead of blowing through it by staying up one night, so maybe that will level out once trainers becomes more common.

Also, I think my Nidoran is bugged. Her poison sting isn't showing up as SE against anything it should. =[

Do you guys think Nintendo will reach that number? I was thinking about that projection the other day and I realised that there should be a lot of people like me who thought of buying a switch when this game was out, but opted not to since in the last month or so, rumours about an improved switch for the summer increased.

This would almost be a sure buy for me now if it wasnt for those rumours and the notion that in a few months time, my Nintendo would be outdated and potentially limited regarding future titles...

If Nintendo's numbers are right and that was lifetime, no, I don't think they'll hit 20m just for this year. Sure, Pokemon and Smash are big - but that's underplaying how big Zelda and Mario were.

I don't really have a desire to go back to the old capture mechanic. The new one isn't the most engaging thing in the world, but I like it far more than the old way of doing wild battles. TWave, False Swipe, maybe a Roto power, then mash A 80 million times as you toss Pokeball after pokeball.

I can see how the new method is more frustrating if you can't get used to the motion controls, but as far as an engagement goes, it's not any worse than the old way

I agree with Gahlo about the "feel" of not having battles over long stretches. I guess the feel they were going for was your journey being like just going outside and playing, while we're used to the typical RPG "solve all your problems through violence" so it just feels weird when we're not fighting

There's also the fact that a lot of the people who are getting Smash already got a Switch last year for Mario and Zelda

I think they were kinda counting on Labo to be a bigger hit. Labo and Let's Go were really their way of getting non-gamers to get a Switch

There's also a chunk of Pokemon fans that love USUM but are not fully on-board with Let's Go, so they'll have to wait another year to basically get the entire Pokemon fanbase onto the Switch. But Nintendo must have known that and factored that into their 20 million estimate

Dude i know, they need like 14m for the rest of the year, they had 7m on first holiday with supply issues, between smash, pokemon and mario party, they pretty much have something for anyone.

And early 2019 has New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe which will move quite a bit of hardware too

It might be close but i think they hit 20m

I'm on the fence about it. Though I will say my partner has never played a Pokemon game before and I think they're really enjoying it.

I like no random battles, divorcing capture chances from your poke party is nice (no more sleep abuse or whatever) and it makes exploring less of a chore. Throwing the poke-balls isn't particularly engaging, but it's fine enough for me.

The Eevee/Pikachu and walking with a poke-buddy mechanics are nice touches and make for fun engagement.

What I don't like though is it feels a little... lazy of a swap? I love the changes, but they didn't really account for them. Pokemon is never about the challenge... but it's an issue here.

There's a weird combination of no random battles, catching pokemon at full HP, and on person pokebox. For things like the routes they're almost impossible to faint on unless you somehow enter a battle at a huge disadvantage. If your pokemon start getting tired/weak you can just catch some randoms and put them in your party. Or failing that you can just walk to a pokecenter and back and with no random battles there's no risk of fainting on the way back or getting your pokemon weak on the way back out.

So ok, all the challenge has to be within a single trainer fight then because even before potions you can always get your team to full health between fights. But then they didn't adjust the trainers much for that either. You still only see 1-2 pokemon on the trainer's side for quite awhile (though caveat I'm only at Mt. Moon) so it's pretty trivial to knock them out.

So last thing on top of that is XP is really really forgiving. You get a ton of XP for capturing pokemon (which you can do quite a lot of) and you get a ton for battles. Over leveling your starter or early pokemon is really easy to do even without trying. Even with making efforts for that to not happen a lot of the pokemon I use still end up much higher level than the trainers.

I'm also a little disappointed at no hold items, it's not a big deal but I've never played gen 2+ so I was looking forward to seeing that stuff maybe.
----

So I'm really enjoying it as a revisit to gen 1 and that's all great, but I wish they made more tweaks to adjust for not having random encounters. Just simple things like making the trainer battles a little more difficult or cutting the XP gain so your pokemon don't over level as much. It's not a great feeling when your high speed Eevee starter one shots everything except Brock's Onix for the first few hours of the game.
