Well, technically you can just join the dark side and always play on imports. It's not as big of a deal now that they aren't just randomly mucking up mechanics and removing game modes, but playing the game a year earlier is nice.

so I have been having a debate with some friends, was hoping you guys could provide some input. Let's say SoV does really well, and we get a new game in the Echoes series, do you think they go chronologically with the Jugdral games. FE4 in particular being extremely different, with very strong themes like incest, and FE5 being stupid difficult compared to gba and 3ds, or do they go out of order and remake Elibe game(s). Someone suggested they would do an Elibe 2 in 1 as Lyn and Roy are amongst if not the most recognizable non 3ds charcters for people who have only played 3ds. Plus a lot of vets also really love elibe as many of us started with FE7, and smash made roy a huge fan favorite

FE5's difficulty is actually very much overstated. Most of it's observed difficulty for Western players comes from obscure game mechanics coupled with an awful translation patch. The other part is it more or less not having difficulty settings and having a high *default* difficulty. A lot of later games are actually far harder on higher difficulties. If "Hard" difficulty for an FE5 remake were set at it's existing difficulty, and an easier "Normal" difficulty were added, it wouldn't really be that outrageous compared to Conquest.

That said, I see an FE6 remake being more likely than FE4 simply because it's a "safer" choice for IS. I don't see the two-parter remake being that likely, as both FE6 and FE7 are reasonably long. Also, having the beginning of FE7 basically be in the middle of the game means that Lyn Mode would have to be completely redone, as it's still very relevant to the plot of FE7, but serves no gameplay function after you're already 30 chapters in. It's even arguable that most of the early Eliwood/Hector mode chapters don't have adequate complexity for being that far in the game.

for me it was understood that an elibean remake would play out in chronological order, but yes I agree, a 2 for 1 sems unlikely

I've not played these earlier FEs, so I would love to see some remakes.

That said I think Ike takes the spot for most recognizable non 3DS character

Fe5 is not that hard to just play through, the real challenge is SSS rank

12 lunatic is probably the biggest challenge to just complete in the series, although that depends on how you count DLCs

FE4 I don't ever see being remade (at least in the foreseeable future) unless they really overhauled the plot. I think speaking from a mechanical standpoint, FE4 certainly is remake material.

FE5 I don't ever see being remade, unless features such as stamina and the capture mechanic were reworked entirely or altogether removed. I don't see modern audiences being receptive to those mechanics, and that's not even including goofy (yet entertaining) recruitment requirements and the absurd fog of war maps, though admittedly I think they'd do the later two differently.

Elibe remake makes sense for all the reasons that you guys mentioned. I'd personally rather see a return to ~~Marvel~~ Magvel, though I suspect I'm in the minority in this.

I wanna see Gilliam in glorious 3-D action.

EDIT: I could actually see FE4's story remaining relatively intact, if it were to be remade. The reason I say this is because Nintendo has allowed the Binding of Isaac onto their consoles, which is one of the most gruesome and vile games I've ever had the pleasure of playing. I wouldn't say that it would be likely that FE4's story would remain intact, but I'd place it in the realm of probability.

The same could be said of a lot of the grating mechanics in Gaiden. A lot will come down to how they pull off the Gaiden remkae and how receptive audiences are to it.

FE4 was probably the most popular fire emblem in Japan. If any game is likely to get a remake, I think that's the one. The SNES games also stand to have the most to gain from a remake, just because of the impact modern menus and battle summaries would have on playability.

I don't think 4's plot is too dark for English speaking audiences, the incest is mostly cousin's except for lachesis and eldigan, which is only mentioned in a single village convo as a rumor iirc

Lachesis' love toward her brother is fairly explicit, it's whether he returns her feelings and if they act on it that's left up in the air.
