I am also liking the new gym system a lot. Even if you don't have a Pokémon in it you still have reasons to interact with them

There is a limit on the amount of berries that you can give to a single Pokémon in a gym. I walked past a Instinct gym with a Dragonite with the motivation meter at the bottom. And I could only feed it berries to about 1/3 of it's motivation

If you feed berries to the same pokemon, the amount of CP it gains is halved each time until you hit +1 CP.

I didn't know what to think of the new gym system first, but I managed to score 150 coins in the past 3 days which is definitely an improvement over the 10/day I was doing the last 3 months lol. Though I fear the excitement will die down soon and my pokemon will stay in the gym forever, not bringing coins.

I wouldn't mind if a pokemon automatically came home after reaching 0 CP, now he still must be beaten by someone from the other team, not necessary imo.

Better yet, they should have the pokemon return 50 coins to you automatically once they have collected that amount after staying in the gym for 8.5 hours. The whole point of putting in the 50 coins cap is to reduce the incentive for players to hit up multiple gyms and deny other players a chance to profit, but without knowing if your pokemon is returning to you at the end of the day or tomorrow, the safest bet is still to dominate multiple gyms to make sure you get the max number of coins on a daily basis.

Not enjoying the gold situation with gyms that much but raids are awesome. On the bright side the rare candy makes me need incubators for rng hatches much less so overall feels like a net positive.

Yeah the new system is better, but it still could use some work.

* The drain isn't smooth so a 2999 CP pokemon loses less motivation/time than a 3000+ one.
* The uncertainty about getting coins is annoying, even for casual players. If you say go out one day and take a few gyms but don't regularly do it you may end up getting just 50 coins for the trouble.
* I'm still getting locked out of gym participation because of lopsided teams. Almost every gym around is still blue (my team) most of the time so it's a matter of luck to find one that has space or one that's not blue (good for raids, bad for coins).
* Potentially you can do the leg work to take a gym and get very little. If the gym is too highly contested you may end up getting just 1-2 coins for your effort.

I'm glad you can't just squat 5-6 gyms to get a consistent coin income anymore, but it's a little *too* unreliable now and if you're on the more casual end it's going to be pretty hit or miss how many coins you get for your time (though it's better than the 0 coins you'd get before).

I think they should add coins as a drop for raids (like 1-5 as a reward that competes with the revives), give you a mechanism to pull someone out of a gym (perhaps then locking you out of putting someone back right away), and maybe something like give you 5 coin minimum for the first time you gain coins in a day (that way the first time you take a gym even if it's highly contested you'll get a reasonable initial reward).

They should definitely give an alternative reward when your defending pokemon returns to you when you reach your daily coin cap. Also, found out I can solo up to level 3 raids as long its an easy pokemon that I have counters with good movesets to use against. However, level 4 raids need at least 5 high level players with the right pokemon otherwise you wont stand a chance. Lapras and Snorlax are hardest raids right now

There's such a large difference between level 3 and 4?

Also, have you aver seen a lvl 5 raid? Could they be legendary mons maybe? (one can hope)

i think i solo'd a lvl 4 bayleef raid with just a flareon. i assume the level is indicated by the number of pokemon 'faces'? the bayleef was like 4.5k CP

Hmm, Tier 4 raids only spawn the 3 kanto starters (final evolution) and Lapras/Tyranitar/Snorlax/Rhydon afaik. They are usually 25-30k CP as well. I think you may have looked at the wrong gym?

I found I could not defeat the Jolteon, which I think is level 3, at player level 34 with 5 or so 2k+ ground types (rhyhorn, golem, donphan) but with one other low level player it was doable. If they were all maxed pokemon it may have been possible.

I'm starting to get pretty frustrated by the coin situation. I got no coins on Saturday (despite having several pokes deployed), no coins on Sunday (same deal, 9 pokes deployed). I had a 3 pokes get booted yesterday that had all been defending for several days but only got 50 coins, and then a little after midnight I had another poke come home empty handed. I'm really missing that 40K stardust/week that I had been getting before, but I've collected a total of 67 coins since this gym rework even though I'm very active in gyms.

on the other side of the coin, i have gotten more coins/day in the last week than i have in the last six months. spoofers keep me out of local gyms, but i can be more strategic about where i take gyms.

The likelihood that you will have multiple mons return on one day and exceed 50 is very real. Feels bad to successfully defend a few gyms for days and it only count for 1/3 of what it should. You'd almost be better off collaborating with another team and just have shifts and minimize everyone's effort.

The cap is kind of critical to the longevity of the gym system though; without it we're back to where we were before when people would just squat in level 10 gyms and the opposing team will rarely feel like sitting there to knock it all the way down then build it all the way back up.

At least now the gym system promotes churn and giving a broader range of people the opportunity to get in a gym. Rather than all the really invested players getting all the coins there's space for less dedicated players to pick up some coins here and there.

yep. system before was awful. system currently has some flaws, but i personally like the cap as i am seeing more people participating in gyms now instead of the top 10 spoofers for the area--although the spoofers are still here unfortunately.

At least now spoofers are occasionally a benefit to you as a regular player by showing up to raids.

I think with just a few more tweaks the gym system will be in pretty good shape, then they just need to work on the combat system. Especially now with raids. Having moves that cause status effects would be really fun; though the timeout mechanic probably would limit their use.
