I think if you had the ability to withdraw a pokemon from a gym (without being able to put one back right away) that could solve a lot of the problems in the unpredictability. I don't need the ability to withdraw. I just think its bullshit that my coin income is tied to when the other teams decide to knock out my mons. The cap is kind of critical to the longevity of the gym system though; without it we're back to where we were before when people would just squat in level 10 gyms and the opposing team will rarely feel like sitting there to knock it all the way down then build it all the way back up. At least now the gym system promotes churn and giving a broader range of people the opportunity to get in a gym. Rather than all the really invested players getting all the coins there's space for less dedicated players to pick up some coins here and there. yep. system before was awful. system currently has some flaws, but i personally like the cap as i am seeing more people participating in gyms now instead of the top 10 spoofers for the area--although the spoofers are still here unfortunately. At least now spoofers are occasionally a benefit to you as a regular player by showing up to raids. I think with just a few more tweaks the gym system will be in pretty good shape, then they just need to work on the combat system. Especially now with raids having moves that cause status effects would be really fun; though the timeout mechanic really limits their use. we actually have built such an amazing raid group that we dont play with anyone else (always private). its really cool to meet the same people over and over again.
before they do anything, please fix the lag. network error is super effective.....

In my neighborhood, there is less space. We've got 10 gyms down here so we've lost around 40 slots for Pokemon. No new gyms have been added since the update. Its the same names as before in all the gyms, except now there are fewer.
I just think it sucks that the new optimal coin strategy is to collude with a member of another team (or get a second account) and say "I'll flip this gym every morning, you flip it every night".
And the REAL problem here is the shortage of dust. I like the dust incentive for feeding berries, but there just aren't enough gyms/pokemons to get a non trivial amount of dust

We lost a lot of space around here too, but it still has been better because people aren't trying to load into 10+ gyms anymore (or at least not once they understand how pointless that is) and so long as people aren't overfeeding pokemon berries there's a low bar for the other teams to take out a gym which creates a window for different people to move back in.
I think the current system is still too dependent on people working wtihin system (not overfeeding pokemon, not flipping enemy gyms *too* fast to discourage the other teams, not loading into too many gyms at once), but it at least favors churn over stagnation.

I either have my 'mon kicked out in minutes or stuck ad nauseam. Still earning more than before so can't complain.

oh man i was so wrong about the new gym system its awesome! i'm actually able to take over gyms now and gain coins! i'll finally be able to ugprade my backpack and pokemon counts.
one thing tho - its almost too easy to solo a gym now, maybe make the motivation loss for losing a battle less powerful. its a double edged sword - OTOH i can take over gyms, OTOH i get booted out fast. but prior to this update it was too tedious to solo a gym

New gyms + raids have worked out great for a high level 20 player. I'm in SF so before gyms were packed to level 10 & much too high to attempt to take out.
Now I find I can usually get in on ones, & don't mind taking out opponent gyms occasionally for some badge rewards. I think there's a lot of tuning that can be done, whether it's stardust or coin rewards for attacking etc. but from a starting point the gym system is accessible to a lot more players now.
Also a daily raid so far is pretty fun, & leveling up to solo some t3 raids has a tangible goal for me to strive for. Before I had no motivation to power up attackers & aim for low 30s as I figured high 30s would still beat me in the gym scene.

the only raid i tried to solo was magikarp with 1k CP. how tough are the boss fights if you are soloing with your own pokemons? do they one shot you? they seemed to have 10k+ CP

Level 30 here. I tried a lapras level 3 yesterday. I dodge maybe one special max, yet It killed two of my mons out of the six. ... I did 20% of it maxhp by the timeout.
I have ok gym attacker, but I'm nowhere near having 6 good pokemons that can counter the same enemy. By level 35 I'll have 3 time as much xp, so more than 3 time as many high level mons, and that'll still be far from the count I'll have to be on time to raids, hoping to join public team.

I nearly solo'd a 20k jolteon with 6 ground types varying from a 2800 rhyhorn and a 2000 golem. Pretty sure he's a level 3, so if you have decent counters and levels I think most can solo the 1/2 difficulties. I know I've done the crocomaws with a single 2k jolteon with a lot of time to spare.
|
I've solo'd a level 3 Machamp. It was pretty tough. It took me like 4 or 5 tries. I don't recommend trying to solo level 3 raids. Level 2's are easy though.

I'm not sure that's the best way to shorten "Tyranitar."

I woke up two two of them + 50 coins having been kicked out at 11am. I thought that the 50 coins may have just been a coincidence.
