It was released in the UK today, so take that with a pinch of salt.

Not sure if anyone else saw this, but in one of the /r/pokemongo threads one of the comments had a link to a ~15 page guide, but one of the pieces of information was a table with how many CP you get per upgrade for all of the pokemon
Did anyone else happen to see that? I didn't bookmark it or save the comment for later viewing

How cool would it be if the battle / hunting system similar to the other games were? At least if you could choose between the two.
I believe that if this game is properly developed they could even have 8 gyms per country and a poke league after you collect the 8 medals. It could turn into a really nice father-son/friends experience for many.
They can really do something big with this.

Wtf? You realize that Nintendo/ Niantic wants more than 50 people to play this game, right?

They can really do something big with this. Wtf? You realize that Nintendo/ Niantic wants more than 50 people to play this game, right? Do you realize a gym in the way they work in the other games is npc controlled and you just beat them once for the medal, right? You can also fight other players/npc on your way through the map.
They could change what today are gyms to controllable zones or anything like that.
Why do you have to just jump into the worst conclusion possible instead of expanding an idea?
geez..

Sure. So these would be my questions to your suggestion:
1. What part of your recommendation is any more of "a really nice father-son/friends experience for many" than Pokemon Go?
2. When you say "They can really do something big with this", what makes you think that they haven't? Millions of people are already playing the game, it's the top grossing app in the US Apple store, it's hit #1 faster than any other app or game ever, and it's the biggest mobile game in the U.S. already. And it's only been a week.
3. Why would you want to remove tens of thousands of local gyms- which undoubtedly provide far more accessibility than just 8 per country- if you want to make the game more popular? You'd be making it incredibly inconvenient for 99.99% of all players. It also just sounds like you want to play regular Pokemon for the Game Boy/ DS... fortunately, you can do that any time you want!
It just seems incredibly silly for you to say "I believe that if this game is properly developed", when you really just don't like the game.

Travelling the country to actually achieve something (getting a medal for instance)
2. I am talking something big game related, not money related. Blizzard also did something big money related but every one of their games turned into crap thanks to that.
3. Why would you think they have to be removed instead of renamed? The way I see it this is no pokemon game, you can just swap pokemons with digimons or any other kind of being and it is all the same.
I am just saying this game could relate to its predecessors and become an even better version.
Keep the current gyms but rename them and put eight NPC controlled gyms across the country, a poke league and you just have a "real life" pokemon game.

You can still travel to other places to find new Pokemon in Pokemon Go. In fact, you need to; many different Pokemon in Pokemon Go are terrain/ biome specific.

Again, there's a difference between a company/ game succeeding and a company/ game doing what you want it to do. The success that Nintendo, Pokemon, Pokemon Go, Blizzard, StarCraft, e-sports, etc. have seen aren't dependent on your opinion. Out of the top six best-selling PC games of all time, Blizzard is responsible for 3 of them (WoW, Diablo III, and StarCraft) ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_games ). You thinking that things are crap doesn't change the popularity and success of certain games and franchises. You may disagree with those things, but it's silly to subjectively dismiss them and say that they're not doing it properly and that they're not doing something big with their ideas.

If you want Pokemon Go to be just like Pokemon, then I'd think that the bigger concern would be that you can't use your Pokemon to weaken other wild Pokemon and level them up by fighting Pokemon (that basically the current format is more of a glorified virtual reality Safari Zone + rare candies), rather than the fact that it's missing gym badges >.>

You like it like it is, enjoy it. I would love to see something else, not something different. It can be expanded instead of overwritten.

I like the local gym system much more. Quite frankly your system doesn't work in reality.
People have jobs, they have families, and they can't spend weeks and thousands of dollars to go compete in a video game. So what if a couple thousand people can afford to do that. The other millions of us can't.
That kind of competitive mode needs to be online only.
Also the social aspect of the game is what I really enjoy atm. Being out with dozens of other side loading happy Pokemon trainers is awesome.
|
It is not negativity to believe that the current iteration is better than somebody's wishlist.
8 gyms per country is silly unless you live in Vatican City.
|
yes, lets consolidate all of the gyms into fewer numbers. that way i have even less of a chance to ever win anything against the hardcore players who dont have 9-5 jobs apparently.
its amazing to me that people are already bitching about the game (other than servers, which are experiencing difficulties).
|
I do not understand how you people can't realize what today are gyms can be just renamed and function just the same way they do. And for the nerds they add 8 gyms per country and a poke league.
I just don't get it. Just like the guy who said it would be great to have the old battle system and someone said his girlfriend would not like it. Like she couldn't just throw the ball all the same and keep catching pokemons like she does now.
You see problems where there are no problems. I am adding features and you feel like I am removing something.

not worth the dev time even if it took 1 guy 1 day to implement (it wouldn't)

The irony of this is delicious.

You keep saying this but you're the one who's changing his message. You originally said "I believe that if this game is properly developed they could even have 8 gyms per country" lol. Not additional; nice try though. New ideas are cool and all, but you were the one who was dismissive of what the game currently has, insisting that they're not developing the game properly or big enough. It shouldn't come as a surprise when your ideas are refuted.

to be fair I think the game will hit retention problems in a week or so due to it's lack of depth, but adding very exclusive content isn't going to fix that

I wish there were more to do aside from gyms. I'm not really interested in the gym aspect of it. But I think it would be cool if you could battle against other people you meet. It would make the game much more sociable. Give XP reward to both players, but more to the winner, only allow a fight every hour (or even every 5 minutes since they are apparently fine with Poke Stops having only a 5 minute cooldown). It would make the hunting and catching aspect more interesting IMO.
As it is now I often just see a ton of people staring at their phones in the same general area. There's some person-to-person interaction, but I feel they could incentivize more of it.

I was thinking about this as well. I also believe that in a couple weeks, a couple months, the game won't be nearly as popular, as people realize there's basically no reason to be doing this. However, I do think it has some staying power from the fact that it's a game you can play where before there was nothing. People go for walks and run errands. Why not turn on Pokemon GO while you do these things?
