this has been all over the nfl forums, but they suck so bad so i decided to post here, since theres a lot of nfl-heads here too =].
most of you know by now, jim mora was fired yesterday. personally, i think that the falcons should have given vick the boot. aside from sell out seats, what else has he done?
in his 6 years in the league, hes got one year with a percentage completion above 55, which is flat out bad. only one year above an 80.0 qbr. sure, his running is eye catching and sells seats, but what else does it do? altlana is essentially a one dimensional team because he cant pass. forget it if they are laying from behind. by running the ridiculous amount of times he does, he also opens the door for injury.
people trying to defend him will say his team has more drops than anyone. look at warrick dunn, one of the best pass catching rb's. hes got crumpler, an easy top-3 te in the nfc. he had pierless price, who, prior to coming over, was shaping up to be a top-tier receiver. vick single handedly killed that. discuss!!!

They have more issues than just at quarterback. Their first string defense allowed 24 points to the eagles entire second string offense. When that happens, you know you're in trouble They also were having some issues with their offensive line. As far as I could tell, they just weren't getting the same push for their running attack that they normally do. Plus, warrick dunn is getting up there in the years, definitely gonna need to be replaced. Hard to say if norwood is the answer (i'm leaning towards no, though he did look good in spot duty).
They have issues besides quarterback. There's no way they can cut him either, primarily because of that extension that they signed recently. Their cap hit would probably be ridiculous

oh yea, i wasnt even going into the rest of their team, with that eagles game being my main point. i just chose vick because he's the media's darling and how everyone blamed this season on mora. vick is arrogant (hes seeming more and more like his dooshbag of a brother every day), flipped off his fans and then criticized the coaches. he said it couldnt have been his fault they did bad this season, since his stats were good.

have vick run plays like they use in UW. what do you call those shit where Qb rolls from sideline to sideline with running back as an option to pass and reciever also an option to pass while shifting the entire offensiveline like a screen. plays like that are design for Qbs that runs good
|
it's called the option and that just doesn't work in the pros. quarterbacks are $100 million investments, option quarterbacks take WAY too much of a beating for that to be a legit strategy in the pros. Doing it every now and then is ok. Personally I think they should run the spread more often. 3 wide outs, put in algie, dunn in the backfield, vick in the shotgun. gives him a lot of room to operate

selling seats would seem quite important for the falcons "organization"

I've talked shit about Vick on too many forums already. Everyone that rides his dick is stupid. They try and say he makes up for his weak passing game (always because of his receivers, not him. Vicks throws NEVER have anything to do with it according to them) by his good running game. He ALWAYS has positive rushing yards. And my counter to that, "Do you know Qb's don't get subtracted for yards lost per carry? Qb's can't have negative rushing yards? Yea...It doesn't count against their rushing. Awesome huh?"
Vick isn't good. He is a gimmick. He is athletic, yes, but he is too fragile to run, and his career will be over soon with one good hit. I want Strahan to hit him one good time.

I've never been a fan of Vick, I hate how he runs more than he passes, I swear he has no right to call himself a QB. He's just a second HB and his constant running also makes it all about him (as in he gets all the attention and his teammates are forgotten). I really hope he gets ruined before his career ends or atleast becomes a real QB...

The first string defense is missing about six guys from it. Week 17 is a really shitty week to talk about where teams need improvement. Yeah, they need more depth, but that's not what you're talking about there.
They don't have to cut Vick at all, though. Move his ass to HB to replace the aging Warrick Dunn, and start the pretty decent looking QB they have in Matt Schaub. Either that or try to find a team that will take Vick in a trade.
I don't think Vick is too fragile to be a HB. He's taken some good shots on the sidelines before. Granted, one of the better shots he's taken broke his leg, but whatever. He's not going to bring that team anywhere, and Jim Mora Sr. was 100% right earlier this year.

What the hell is wrong with you people? You want his career ended? Just because he's not a good passer? That's like me saying I want you to break both of your wrists because you want win WCG every year
|
Mora had the best winning percentage of a ATL coach, ever.
Which is sad because he went something like 29-25.

26-22 I think. He's one of two guys to leave that team with a winning record. What a shitty team.

For you not to put any blame on the recieving corp is bogus though. Every week I watch gameday and see his recievers dropping passes that just _kill_ drives. With more consistant recievers, the running game becomes even more potent, and things open up more.

Meh, when things are looking down, compare to the Lions. God we suck. We cant even lose when we need to.

You should be happy, you won't be obligated to draft and overpay brady quinn
