"The first phase of the Closed Beta will deploy on October 27 in the Americas gameplay region, and players may be added gradually to start (with more being invited as new features are ready to test). During this time, we'll continue to make preparations for our Europe and Asia gameplay regions—our goal is to have Europe come online next, with Asia following at a later date."
What a joke...

Agreed, they should release it for every region at once so it sucks for everyone at the same time. Then they can deal with error reports from across the world in several languages.

You're sort of implying here that it isn't tiresomely routine that its North America availability first and foremost damn near every time, every game, from pretty much every publisher. The sole exception being Japanese-developed games. Which are Japan first and then North America in virtually every case.
This isn't a one-off thing relating to one beta for one game. Its a huge irritation in things being sold too. The poor Aussies have it worst of all. Sometimes takes MONTHS there.

Although you have to be annoyed, its not really Blizzards fault that their company is in the US and their main market is here. They have to start some place, so might as well be the region that exists in the same time zone as them.

In fairness I'm extra salty lately about the crap difference in releases and regional restrictions because PMMM Rebellion was literally finally released in the UK just last week.
In comparison its been nearly a year and a half since the initial import release of it in the US and a solid six months since the dubbed US release. It is getting very, very tiring with getting absolutely everything on Earth late.

Back in my day we had to get our Anime through Hong Kong if we wanted it in "English"... am I doing it right?

Meh and here I am having to wait an extra month for Blade and Soul beta, now seems the same for Overwatch.
I mean I guess I can understand it but still doesn't make it any less painful. I'm curious though would it be possible for us Europeans to play the NA beta of Overwatch?
|
I suspect the vast majority of people from even NA will NOT be invited to the beta any time soon. They will have some beta weekends with higher invite levels (maybe even open to everyone?).

At least they might put EU at some point.
I'm in the UK, i have 20-30 ping to blizzard EU servers. I've never seen ping below 180 to HOTS/LOTV beta and it's regularly in the 220-270 range.
The game also has a very significant natural delay from the engine so that means a 1/3'rd of a second delay to issue any kind of command which makes certain types of micro like phoenix vs muta literally impossible

Reminder that the first live streams on twitch will start at 10 AM PT.
Not that Overwatch is guaranteed to follow the same pattern, but the time from start of closed beta to open beta for both Hearthstone and HOTS was about 5 months.

Beta gameplay is live on twitch now with blizzard HQ stream which we were told about.
http://www.twitch.tv/haylinic
It is quite tactics orientated or that is what they are trying to portray. So this is going to be a huge ass cluster fuck until people understand. Not sure what to make it of it, hope i get the beta.
|
Wouldn't say beta is live just because people who were invited to Blizz HQ to play are streaming it right now.
When Oct 27 hits, then it'd be considered live.

Although you have to be annoyed, its not really Blizzards fault that their company is in the US and their main market is here.
You sure about main market? Pc gaming is in general much larger in EU than US.

I have literally zero data to back that up beyond that they are a US company that releases most of their games in the US first. So MAYBE????? Or they just picked the US because they hate other regions and want them all to suffer because they are all horrible zealots and love America and America only.
The world may never know.

this game reminds me so much of Unreal Tournament
