So CD Projekt RED announced new game within The Witcher franchise but unlike other games which are PC cRPGs (The Wticher, The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings and upcoming The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt), this is MOBA for mobile devices: apparently for Android, iOS and WP at the same time.
There is official teaser
Which is worthless really. A lot more telling is some random screenshot from the game: I dare to say it looks excellent for a mobile game.
More information come from yesterday's article in one of polish news websites - the information indicates that average game length is ~7m with ~10m being a "long" game, that battles (3v3) are fairly complicated - not like full fledged MOBAs but we are talking about game for mobile devices with touchscreen.
There is small IGN's piece about the game which just clarifies that it will be much like LoL - everything is eventually for free but your $ can speed up getting stuff:
There are 8 characters:
Two wizards: Philippa Eilhart (2) & The Operator (6)
Two archers: Eithne of Brokilon (1) & Iorveth (4)
One obvious tanks: Golem (3)
One assassin: Letho of Gulet (5)
And two melee fighters: Saskia of Aedirn (7) & Zoltan Chivay (8)
At least that's how I see it.
What's your thoughts as I obviously am excited about the game and am looking forward to it. I will update post as data will appear.
From what polish web portal said, apparently all abilities are skillshots and essentially it's possible to handle the game with mostly thumbs. Also some stuff is simplified like there is no starting cash so at the start of the game you just go and kill. The map is a lot smaller as well. I imagine it's doable, would like to be able to play beta and I wonder what are system requirements for smooth play.
I thought Witcher was a game about finding girls, making quest for them to get them in your bed. I fail to see how this apply to a moba.
I just puke a little in my mouth when great franchise use the name to get their game going. If there wasn't the name of the franchise in this... no one would care. That's money maker.
Now i present you :
- Wolfenstein sims ! The dating game. You can date your favorite hero ! - War of Painkiller ! Build your base and builds heroes to conquest hell and save your fiancé ! - SimsLike Arena ! Pick your favorite sims as characters and frag like hell on this new FPS ! - Heroes of Amnesia ! Build a city and manage your cites contentment. You can play as Daniel after he escaped the shadow.
And of course, the one you wait since the dawn of Time

The same goes for Heroes of the Storm, to some degree Smite, Star Wars/Warhammer/Age of Conan/etc MMO and countless other examples. You use franchise to make game visible but if the title won't hold it's own as a good game, franchise won't help.

That's true enough.
Heroes of the storm is one of them. Star wars... Well not so much as each one of the games stay in the same way and make sense.
Because it makes sense to have : character developement (RPG), battlefield management (RTS games), Fighting in space (Tie fighter, X-wing) and action games in the starwars universe.
MMos are a bit odd in this yes. But an RPG into Moba...
But i don't agree franchise don't help. It helps a lot to sell at first. But you are right at the same time because if the game isn't good it won't last. But franchise helped you sell it in the first place.

It's not "RPG into Moba". Witcher franchise started as a series of short stories ... Polish original cover publised in 1993 and english translation of it: and later on expanded into 5 tome saga - all by original author A. Sapkowski. There is also a comic book with rather specific image quality: , cinema movie and tv series - both really bad though. There was also RPG (tabletop) game: Later CD Projekt RED acquired a license and started making video games but to say that Witcher started with video games is absurd. After Witcher the video game there was a card game: I believe there is also feature rich board game in the making by I. Trzewiczek. http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/147116/witcher-adventure-game
It's definitely not as rich as Star Wars or LOTR or Warhammer but I think it may be easily compared to Conan.

Well my apologies then :p
No problem!
I'm actually looking forward for some characters which are dead by the time video games are happening to be introduced into the Arena, most notably + Show Spoiler +
Bonhart (assassin, hunting witchers; eventually killed by Ciri in weird duel) Cahir (knight, killed by bonhart) Regis (a vampire that was blood abstinent until the day he died by Vilgefortz) Vilgefortz (a kick-ass wizard; easily the most powerful wizard in the books; had an answer for almost everything; by a twist of fate killed by Geralt) Milva (although kind of redundant to the driad already listed) Renfri (she was cursed duchess and cruel, deadly leader of a band of 7 gnomes; obviously a comical opposite to Snow White and Seven Dwarfs. She was killed by Geralt whom she challenged to a fight after sleeping with him). Also some humanoid monsters like Bruxa would be nice.

They get an interesting background and characters many people know of. The rest is up to them, same as with most franchise games.
As it is mobile I won't play it (can't), but would otherwise probably tried a round or two to check it out based on name. Personally preferred the books to the games, so not holding too great hope.

What? O_O
That's true. Outside of some indie games, most AAA titles in recent years are complete garbage and biggest money-making franchises are utter garbage (CoD for example).
I mean companies are just designing games based on what they think people will buy rather than what actually constitutes a good game, the entire push into mobile gaming is driven by huge profits from the candy crush sagas of the world.
In other industries, for example the music industry, we've traditionally seen collapses in demand that have followed periods of high sales and profitability, caused normally by companies failures to recognize what the consumer actually wants. The video game industry is anticipating massive demand for these mobile games which in my opinion are generally very bad games. Thus there is a push into this mobile space which is driven 100% by profit motivations rather than by the artistic vision of a group of people trying to design a great game. In other industries this collapse in demand has lead to fat-trimming and re-structuring of the players in the market and then a re-invigoration normally towards re-focusing those organizations on targeting the actual want of the consumer rather than the perceived want. This collapse and rebuilding has yet to occur in the very young video game industry which continues to produce record profits year after year.

Professional companies are not doing game for good reviews, their doing it to earn money and coincidentally - frequently good game and profit comes hand to hand. If companies will have too much hope for some specific market, the bubble will burst, some developers and executives will loose their jobs, market will move on and new games, maybe genres, will pop up.
I'm not saying that this particular title is artistic beaty but to be fair in the moba genre only original Dota was. After that all titles - LoL, HoN, Dota2, Smite - are titles that are trying to capitilize on the genre and fact that it started as Warcraft3 map rather than full product.
I think that fast paced mobile moba would be nice, I think I will enjoy it especially as I have a LOT more sentiment for Philippa Eilhart or Zoltan Chivay than - I don't know - Furion, Teemo or Zeus.
