Erm, every gaming website said only bad things after the conference. A lot of tech sites had bad things to say too. Can you link to a reputable tech site that sang praises?

Penny Arcade, take it as you like. I personally agree with you, should just be called "overpriced pile of dog shit" for all Im concerned. I use my PC to watch tv/movies, why the hell do I need a middle man in the form of xbone?
Angry Joe's rant on the new info was pretty good. Remember when they cut Xbox live games after 8 years? What happens to Xbox One's games when that comes to happen? Opps, can't play any of your games anymore!

Yeah I don't think he's reading enough into it. I'm seeing plenty of people openly posting that they can't wait to buy one of these pieces of crap.
Wonder if we'll see more shootings and fights break out at midnight releases of these like we did with the 360 and ps4. Sad enough that it happened there but considering how many steps backwards MS has taken it'd be even worse this time.
I gotta say,I'm not a console guy really and haven't bought one since the ps2 days but following all this is immensely entertaining.Microsoft crashing and burning on every new announcement, the fans are pissed, the internet is pissed, the stock holders are pissed rofl If sony was half way smart they would have a guy just dedicated to writing down everything Microsoft has done so far to piss people off since the xbox announcement and do the complete opposite or mask and kinda put in the background everything that's similar. W/e ends up happening, following this trainwreck was priceless.
As a regular over there as well, I can assure you that, if it's not Nintendo, there's a high probability that they think it will "burn down." The community has a huge slant towards Nintendo and against Microsoft. Sony is spared simply because of its strong RPG titles over the years.

Thing is, even though sony is not saying anything, I'm quite sure they will implement similar restrictions on second hand games. Also, their consoles always have been media centres (first with DVD support and then with Blu-ray support), so why wouldn't they take it one step further?
Besides, if you look at it from a publisher's point of view, there is no point in investing in a console that lets people play used games unrestrictedly while another console limits that functionality. Make no mistake, publishers wish death and destruction on the second hand market and they couldn't care less if gamestop goes bankrupt because of that.
It's really naive to think that the Playstation 4 will not have some kind of DRM on second hand games and extended multimedia functionality. They can't afford not to. However, unlike microsoft, they keep their mouths shut about it. Anyone who thinks that Sony will play the good guy needs some basic economics lessons. I bet both microsoft and sony want to release a DRM-free console but publishers will not let them get away with it.
What will happen is the same that happened with MW2 a couple of years ago: there will be a lot of hardcore gamers who will set up boycott groups for various reason but will end up buying the console around launch anyway.

Buying a videogame or a console is not on the same scale of investment. If publishers get their way, consoles will just die out honestly. People will get PCs... at least you have the benefit of it being a freaking PC as well.

It's not on the same scale of investment, but I'm quite sure that the hardcore gamer demographic consists mainly of teens who don't even pay for the hardware or software themselves.
What do most people use PCs for? Browsing the web? Facebook? Emailing? Nothing that can't be done on either a tablet, smartphone or even a console. PC and laptop sales have plummeted since tablets became so popular. Some people may use their PCs for heavy text editing or making spreadsheets, but in all honesty, you can just as easily do that on 5-year-old PCs. Anything that has a dual-core processor in it is quite up to the task of doing that. Then there's the high-end market segment, mainly filled with professionals who needs software like Autocad and photoshop and PC gamers. They're a minority, though. I think we're finally coming to the point that the PC will become a thing of the past, except for professionals/hobbyists who really need the extra horsepower.

Of course there is a point in investing in a console that lets people play used games! It's called consumer good will. Publishers which try to play a fair game with their customers will notice that even though their games will be traded and sold used more often, they'll also see an increase in retail sales in the long run.
Plus, from a publisher's standpoint, there's no point in investing in a console which's adoption rate is low due to predatory BS and DRM that consumers don't like. Consumer good will and the feeling that we're being respected as consumers is important to some of us. Not all of us, but some.

Sony will have DRM on their games, but if they want to crush Microsoft for this console generation, they should keep their DRM as nonrestrictive as they can. The contrast between the consoles would lead to the PS4 selling a lot more units and publishers will be interested in developing for the console which is in more homes.

Old-style computers are still viewed as the main place for productivity. People don't upgrade as often, but they use it as much as they used to. Tablets and laptops are still, for many, a secondary device. As for gaming, PC sales have not been doing that badly, but my understanding is that they've gone down. I would attribute that mainly to the fragmentation of the market into 3 major gaming devices and more importantly, the decline in the quality of the games.
- No forced DRM - No always online/handshake - No used game restriction - No Kinect - Free Playstation Network - Stronger hardware specs - Controller with touchpad - Indie self published games - Strong first party lineup for launch - Strong 3rd party lineup for launch, both exclusive and multiplatform

I pray now. 3 more days till E3.
The DRM and used Game stuff though i just can't see it for Sony in some shape or form. Publishers will force Sony to implement something . Now what that something is going to be who knows . The best thing to do if something actually had to be implemented is to be as open as possible and as as consumer friendly as possible.
I don't need to sell my games to retailers or buy them there. Fuck retailers i don't give a shit about MS partnering with Gamestop and the other big ones. What i want is to be able to lend/rent game and be able to buy used game from other end-consumers or sell it to them without any restriction or big complication.

While I'm sure Xbone servers will be up longer than 8 years, they certainly won't be up forever. I still have friends who play N64 games sometimes, and that came out 17 years ago. In 17 years, chances are every Xbone in existence is going to be a brick.
First, Microsoft deletes negative comments regarding the new console on their YouTube page and now they are trying to make 3rd party developers not show the PS4 version of their game.

It's pretty negative overall it seems. There are certainly alot of trolls on the internet but amidst all the memes and blatant fanboy flaming there are plenty of reasonable posters that are worried about the xbone. I still don't think people are making a big enough deal about the kinect surveillance cam. Most people seem to hate on the 24 hour online check-in and used games stance the most.
