My take on the clock is as follows:
Each team begins with a clock of 14 days. When a majority is reached, they tap the clock and play moves to the other team, whose clock starts, as in live chess games.

This would keep the game to 28 days maximum length (with a possible extension period after a certain number of moves have been made), but still with ample time for the teams to cooperate.
Please PM me with any songs you like that you think I haven't heard before!

I don't think 14 days is nearly enough time for a team correspondence game. How many moves do you expect the teams to bang out per day?

1 day/move is the shortest time limit I think is really practical.

Can I just say that the last chess match kept me interested until the very end. I still have the thing bookmarked. Even though I didn't play, I definitely think it was a great idea and I learned a lot just from watching!

Each turn needs to be at least 1 day long as long as people are randomly assigned to teams, otherwise unless you want to lose on time within 20 moves, only half the team is going to get to vote just because of time zones. Having a set time per move is probably best, but it shouldn't be longer then 1-2 days.

Also if someone could work out some voting system other then just posting it in the thread it would make everything much smoother, (maybe some polling site somewhere, or try and get a hidden thread for each team to have a poll in like (i think) the mafia subforum does.)

Maybe each team could nominate a team leader, who would control the votes and then speak for the team after a vote had been made. Some system would need to be in place to insure the leader didn't just overrule people or anything, but it would also help streamline everything, and help speed the game up a lot as well as there wouldn't be as much time spent waiting due to people posting conflicting votes in the thread then leaving, making a majority impossible.

I think one of the reasons a lot of people (myself included at one point) stopped paying attention to the last game was because in the first 10-12 moves, the actual decision on what move to play was generally made within 5 minutes because it was just standard opening theory, but because so many people needed to vote, it took 2-3 days per move. Having to spend 25 days just to get through the first 10 moves of a French opening probably drove quite a few people away.

A decision should probably also be made as to whether this should be a thing where everyone individually looks at the position, and then votes for their favourite move. Or a thing where everyone discusses the situation then agrees on a move then submits it together when everyone is happy with it. Both are valid styles, but while the second one requires a lot more interaction and time on behalf of the players, it is also (in my opinion) much more fun.

Also, an option could be to play east vs west style or something, with people placed on a team based off time zones. That way you could get away with 12 hour long turns. While it's day in the western hemisphere, they choose a move, then while it's night there and day in the eastern hemisphere, the eastern hemisphere gets a turn. You could just say that it's blacks turn between 10am gmt and 10pm gmt, and whites turn between 10pm gmt and 10am gmt, and then people choose whichever time slot is most convenient for them. That there is a new move daily, keeping people interested, and even if you can't spare 5 minutes on one day, missing one move isn't the end of the world as long as there are at least 4-5 people per team.

That's a neat idea.

Was involved in the last one but ended up dropping out early due to missing few turns and kind of losing touch with the game. Will give this another go if it goes underway. (will try harder to follow through)
You mean I just write stuff here and other people can see it?

Yeah. Coupled with not counting inactives for the sake of majority voting (the way TLCM6 was run, same voting rules), hemispheres would be an amazing convention.

OK, TL Chess Match 7: East vs. West, following killerdog's proposal, is now in the signing-up stage.
