Looks like I'm going to be using DMR/M4 combo for life. SD mags too hard to find. Going to have to drop this M9SD for something with more common ammo too.

if you just get the new dayz beta patch then you have connecting issues.

Use these to update. They've purposely not added the update to Six launcher because they don't know if they want to keep this patch live yet. You HAVE to manually update right now.

Its a sim. A AS50 does what its suppose to do. The reason people like the AS50 so much is because its efficient. It is designed for vehicles so of course it kills in 1 hit.

A 50.cal sniper rifle hits bone irl you are pretty much dead do to the shockwave and tumble. T

We are talking guns and guns aren't designed to be balanced and since this uses Arma as its engine its still not designed to be balanced. There is a big thread on the official forums about people complaining about 50.cals I don't understand why.

Its the best in the game there is always a best in a game. 8000 damage is nothing to sneeze at either since you only have 12000 blood your pretty much dead if you get shot with a DMR so its not really different. I just don't think because you have to shoot someone 2 times means you are more skilled because you shot them with a DMR.

Sorry for rant been spending to much time on official forums I guess. I just don't understand how people can hate on the AS50 just because its 1 hit kill and low recoil. Thats what its designed to have irl.

To be far the SVD camo is the easiest gun sniper to range in the game if you are playing on a server that doesn't have scroll wheel range finder. The SVD downside is it has no Zoom. Making the DMR and M24 superior imo.

I don't see how RL has anything to do with DayZ.
It's a game with simulation elements, realism isn't an argument to put something in. Morphine heals bone fractures in this game, is that realistic? Even so, the .50 cal snipers and the L85 aren't realistic anyway. You don't casually stand up and make a 1000m shot in poor weather conditions..

The reason I don't like those weapons in the game is because they trivialize it. The limitations of the other weapons are what makes them interesting. DayZ is all about the unexpected. If you engage someone at medium range with assault rifles it's not trivial to kill them, which leaves room for the targets to react and the fight to play out in a lot of different ways. With an AS50 you see them, you shoot them and that's it. It's easy to always have a situation under control. People like that because it lets them feel comfortable, but DayZ isn't about being in comfortable positions.

The L85 is even worse, it should be obvious to anyone why it doesn't belong in the game and don't even get me started on the realism of that one.

I make that argument alot its not about realism. The Simulation part is a gameplay aspect. When it comes to weapons that is where the simulation steps in. So if we are talking weapons only not the experience as a whole then you can discuss realism to a certain point.

What limitations are you talking about though? An assault rifle is designed for medium to close quarters combat. If you want CQC then hang around elektro and cherno. Your eventually going to get sniped but thats because you have hills like Dobbryy, the forest behind apartments in cherno, the Radio tower by cherno, or the 2 large factory buildings in the middle of the city. Like it is very common knowledge where snipers snipe those cities from.

Just go kill the sniper. You don't run around with a Sniper for CQC the purpose is to kill the target before the target can return fire.

If you remove all the sniper rifles (which is terrible idea) then everyone will use whatever is the Longest ranged, Highest Damaging weapon, because of efficiency. Mk48 Mod 0 ? M14 Aim? 249? M16Acog(not damaging but gives 1x zoom for 800m effective range)

the L85 is a terrible gun. I use to love that gun fact is its terrible only the scope is good. If you are engaged at medium range your probably going to lose if you have that gun.

This game is about who see's who first much like real life. If you are rolling with a group you increase your survival chances alot. I don't see long gun fights regardless of what weapons are being fired so I am not really sure what battles you have been in. Most fights only last long is because your dead or about to die and you or your teammates can't find or figure out where the other person is. If you can see them and they have the drop your like dead.

Its not hard to kill a person in this game unless your using a crossbow,M9SD or Makarov, mmm maybe the bizon, those still arent hard to kill a person with except the crossbow.

Real cqc is the silenced weapons nothing over 200m effective range in the game (M4A1 CCO SD)that is real Medium range fighting.

You know what would happen if you removed every gun in the game except silenced weapons? The M4A1 CCO SD would be the most popular gun because of efficiency. The most deadliest and longest range of all the Silenced weapons.

The I know my heart pumps when I have to run across the airstrip at north west airfield and if I hear a DMR go off I never say OH its only a DMR. A DMR will fuck you up 8000 blood is nothing to sneeze at. Really there isn't any gun that I think oh its just Xgun.

It is easy to kill someone if you have the drop and thats what its all about. I have been playing for like 2 months now and I can't remember many scenario's where I spotted someone at the exact same time they spotted me.

i doubt he means to get rid of all sniper rifles, just the ones that any noob can pickup and ez mode everyone.
if dmr was the best sniper rifle around, sniping would actually require some skill.

not sure why people think they mean the actually shooting of the l85. they mean the thermal and that's it.

if sniping was decent and there was no thermal.

smgs, carbines, ar's would all be better/more useful as you would have a chance to take down the sniper.
as they wouldnt have full view of everything around them, they would have to rely on actual skills/items.

traps would be more useful, ghuille suit would pretty much be the entrance piece into sniping
teamates would matter 1000x more.

DMR just requires 2 shots for a kill unless its a head shot I don't call that more skill in my opinion. If your running open field or where ever I can still effectively engage at 700m with a DMR if I hit your at 4000 blood assuming you had full life. I basically won already, anything below 6000 blood and you have the chance to pass out every few seconds. You have to bandage possible use morphine and figure out where the shot came from.

Your choices are to run away then bandage/morphine all while bleeding out. Or charge me and I have you in my sights already and unless you have another Sniper rifle, M16Acog(4.5k damage) or M14 Aim. I don't have much to worry about from 700m.

Learning the calculations for mildot correction isn't overly difficult for any of the sniper rifles tbh. Sniping isn't difficult until the target is 800m+ and full sprint and thats with all of the sniper rifles.

im not saying the dmr is not good, its just nothing compared to the as50.
you can still have sniper battles but without thermal/as50, it would be 100x harder and more interesting.

and you can actually assault a sniper, using line of sight and other things to draw attention/stealth to them.

with thermal, gl trying to flank him lol

My point is the DMR is just as capable as the AS50. The fact that its a 2 shot to body kill doesn't make it a terrible weapon. If I have a 800m shot with DMR and AS50 I am taking the shot regardless if I am carrying a DMR or a AS50. If I hit with DMR I just have to shoot him again. He doesn't have a chance to fight back just a chance to go bandage/morphine. If I stay in the same location after I shoot he comes and kills me and I am just bad unless I have teammates covering my flanks.

I've never had a Sniper Battle in DayZ before.

What really gets me about these .50 cal sniper arguments is the people quoting "realism" as justification for why the 50 should kill you in a single shot. However, they never allow "realism" into why there's no way you should move at full speed with one in your inventory, nor unable to fire it from the standing position.

I see no issue with the 107 and as50 staying in the game. I see an issue with them being 100% as versatile as the smaller guns. 6-8 lbs for an M24 or DMR, 31-34 lbs for a 107 or as50. The big guns need drawbacks.

Hmm. Just played during dawn (no sun, but not complete darkness either), and there were no artifacting glitches for me whatsoever while I was running around the airfield. I'm one of the guys who tried everything to fix this, and not a single supposed fix I found on there helped, so this was a nice surprise.

Should've taken this to heart earlier. I was running around in the woods when an unarmed guy was running in circles around me. I kept watching him, trying to figure out whether I should shoot or not when some other guy shot me in the back. Oh, well..

I have to admit, playing this game solo is not too rewarding. Gathering stuff and not trying to die is a lot of fun, yeah, but there are so many damn snipers around that half the time I just fall over dead from one second to the other. Without any buddies, there's no way for me to recover my body, so all I can do is start anew without even having a clue who shot me. Soo, yeah, probably won't play this game again until I get some of my friends to join in.
