I don't get why MMO's seem to do nothing but get worse with every iteration.

In a game which you need to target and aim your spells, you cant really have amazing graphic due to frame drops. Atleast that what I think is the reason why On April 17 2013 08:47 daemir wrote: those 2 bolded + the 200 people pvp thing someone mentioned, Guild Wars 2 anyone? I think we know who well the 200 pvp part worked there >_> While GW2 is a fine game, they didn't ship with even a 10th of the promised pvp features and what could be expected from a title that should have pretty much been about the bloody pvp. Alas, the pve is what gets patches, added content etc and pvp guys can't even make a custom game yet so team A could practice vs team B. e: okay watched that video clip, totally unimpressed. Not going to lie, I was also rather unimpress myself. The only thing I liked was the mechanic and the aim mechanic. Which mean that there is going to be less emphasis on tab targeting, atleast that what I hope. If you play TERA then you know what I am probably talking about. He was lvl 1 or 2 the entire 20min so hard for me to say anything else about it. I wish he actually played the game rather then hop around aimlessly.

Pretty sure the game isn't going to look like that when its actually done. Yeah I've always thought that too but it usually doesn't pan out that way lately. Games that look like shit in leaked stuff/beta usually end up shit, especially MMOs.

One thing Bethesda has done better than any other company is provide a huge range of graphics settings for the player. Even without mods, the difference between playing Skyrim at low settings and a tweaked ini Ultra settings Skyrim is enormous.

I really dont like to see all this hate about the graphics when the gameplay could be amazing. On that note, if the gameplay sucks AND the graphic sucks well... GG

You know this might have more weight if the last X games that the same was said didn't turn out to be exactly the shit you experienced in beta. At some point, you realize this mantra is as stupid as it sounds. I don't give a rat's ass personally about graphics, best games I've ever played were in ASCII, but the gameplay in that video could be described as "meh". Caster dude spamming some sort of infinite firebolt from his staff, didn't look like he had to aim much or there was some heroic level aim assist included. Looked more like he selected a target and then it was autoattack WoW-style. Animations were clunky, movement looked as fluid as it is in Skyrim, which means it's not. Looked very much like another company smelling (late) the money in MMOs and hops in with a generic shit game with existing brand names pasted on top of it.

Generally the only changes that really get made from an open beta to release is content and bug fixes. The engine will not be changed. Open beta nowadays is really just tentative release. Alpha to beta however, is still very different. In the alpha stage, everything is up to change.

"It's just an alpha, it's not even a game yet". "It's just a closed beta, they gonna fix stuff". "This is OBT, that's what it's for, wait for release". "Game just got released, they WILL fix stuff". But usually, it's never like that. FF14 (oringinal one) was a complete **** during alphas, betas and release was the same. SWTOR was lame during all stages and it went F2P in like 8 months, depsite it's 200m budget. Last game I tested since alphas/focus groups was Tera. And while they changed a lot of stuff, in its core it's still the same thing after 2 years since release. But I'll still hope for a decent mmo anyway. I actually wanted to play it, even though I prefer korean mmos to western ones.

Tbh, I'm not sure if Skyrim's first-person combat is a good thing to emulate. Even though I found the combat is better than that of Morrowind or Oblivion, there are some better implementations of first-person melee combat in other games outside of the Elder Scrolls franchise. And I'm also worried about how the art direction in certain regions of ESO may affect those of future real Elder Scrolls games. On one hand, they could always retcon whatever was made in ESO, but on the other hand, the discrepancy will always be bothersome, especially since there are some lore enthusiasts who are unhappy that Bethesda retconned Cyrodil from being a jungle that was described in some early lore books to being a standard European fantasy forest setting in Oblivion.
