I agree, but I also know that a few years back, after the release of SC4, they stated that they wanted to dumb the game down a bit because they felt that it had gotten way too complicated for anyone new to jump into, only hardcore fans of the game bought it because when other people tried, they just didn't understand the complexities of managing everything. I am guessing that is why they are taking out some of the features that we all expect. I don't really care overall as long as the game is still fun. I still have it preordered from Amazon. I just hope it is good.

The later games I felt you were much more restricted in city design becuase they had these hidden rules about what worked and what didnt. It's not like this is a hardcore esports game.

I do agree with this outlook. I grew up on the original SC when it came out on the SNES and I loved the more "fun" nature of it. I do also like the more technical nature of the game in its more current form though. I do hope that with the new one they do inspire a new generation of SC players.

I want to be able to build and manage small towns AS WELL AS huge cities. And by huge cities I don't mean a 2km sq area with a bunch of tall buildings and then flat open grassland around it. I feel like this game has a lot of potential to be amazing, but there needs to be varying city sizes.... in other words, they need to scale it up a bit.

Hopefully someone will mod it, the SimCity4 community has a vast array of mods. Just hoping it isnt a problem with processingcapacity, that larger cities get too taxing on modern computers :C

With Sim City 2000, the series received its biggest boost to its complexity. If I remember correctly, most hidden rules were explained very well in the manual. The problems were mainly, that there are so many mods to chose from and you don't know any more, what to chose and why. The community managed to create magnificent cities. http://community.simtropolis.com/journal/3935/entry-18596-update-3-cities-of-portal-and-whale/ There were some quirks and bugs and regions were drawn quite arbitrarily in different sizes. The small regions were just stupid. The biggest issue is still the question: why should I let it grow? What's the goal? You set the goal yourself.

Subways never really worked well in SimCity 4. Public transportation and roads are just broken in that game. Surface rail tends to work better at actually easing congestion whereas subway is a crapshoot as to whether people even use the service. This is talking about cities that start getting over 300k population.
